Here is a great place to introduce yourself, and tell us what you like to read!

message 2: by Janet (new)

Janet | 1 comments Hi Doug!

Janet from CO here....love Mysteries and the tame paranormal series!

Doug Beatty | 12 comments Mod
Hiya Janet. I like some mysteries, too! Currently I am trying some Anime.. Black Butler, Vol. 1 This one looks promising. So much out there to read!

message 4: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 22 comments I have been getting into post-apocalyptic fiction lately, which is kind of weird for me, I think. I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi or fantasy, and I think of post-apoc as sort of a mix of the two. But How We Live Now was the beginning, and then Margaret Atwood's books about the time after the flood were great, and The Hunger Games just sealed it for me. I'm starting The Road today, and I'm excited. I have Life As We Knew It on hold.

I have a whole bunch of post-apocalyptic fiction if you ever want to borrow any. I recommend "The Last Man" by Mary Shelley and "Malevil" by Robert Merle.
Also, have you read the "Walking Dead" graphic novels? It's primarily about zombies, but the themes of how people live after an apocalypse are really well "fleshed-out" in that series. Heh.

message 6: by Rütteger (new)

Rütteger (rutteger_griswold) Hi everyone I'm Jarrett (PI & RE). I like reading popular science, geography, and history nonfiction. I have also been known to enjoy the occasional fantasy. Currently I am reading Prophecy by S. J. Parris and listening to Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley.

message 7: by Elizabeth S (new)

Elizabeth S (thelibrarylassie) | 1 comments Hi everyone! This is Liz from AR/LA. I like reading a little of just about everything including historical romance, suspense thrillers, mysteries, urban fantasy, young adult books, and NF. I'm currently reading "The Jefferson Key" by Steve Berry.

message 8: by Anna Louise (last edited Jun 18, 2013 06:01AM) (new)

Anna Louise Kallas Hi everyone! I'm Anna. I love reading every genre and am currently reading "The Bookman's Tale" by Charlie Lovett. I just upgraded my Nook to a Nook tablet so I'm also trying to read more e-books however I love books in general.

message 9: by Doug (new)

Doug Beatty | 12 comments Mod
I loved sweetness at the bottom of the pie! I am currently reading Equations of Life (Samuil Petrovitch, #1) by Simon Morden by Simon Morden. I don't usually read sci fi, but this one looked pretty good!

message 10: by Tiff (new)

Tiff (morgonai) Happy Wednesday everyone! I'm Tiffany and I generally like to read Young Adult, Romance novels, anything graphic novel wise and NF of historical fiction.

message 11: by LK (new)

LK (amarathineeyes) | 2 comments I think it is Wednesday, there is that whole, being awake during the day that throws my vampire-lifestyle out of whack.

I generally read Gothic literature (Byron, Shelley, Lewis and Co.) I like to give just about anything a try, but usually I find myself reading things that lean towards the Gothic literature tradition. Anything Dark and Strange is usually my style! Graphic Novels with that style just, literally, find me!!(It's kind of chilling actually.)
I also have a deep love of all things Fantasy and Sci-Fi.

LK (amarathineeyes) | 2 comments Doug wrote: "Hiya Janet. I like some mysteries, too! Currently I am trying some Anime.. Black Butler, Vol. 1 This one looks promising. So much out there to read!"

Black Butler is AWESOME!! Especially if you like Dark-Anime or Dark Lit at all.

message 13: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 1 comments Hello everyone I'm Ginger (RO) and I read a strange variety but mostly it's brain candy like historical romance or steampunk fiction. A far a serious reading I tend to go with whatever catches my attention at the moment.

message 14: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Eisenmeier (carpelibrumbooks) | 12 comments Hi everyone, my name's Melissa. I read a lot of different kinds of books, such as historical, crime thrillers, biographies(especially ones involving animals), mysteries, and sc-fi, but the crime thrillers are my favorite genre. I've been trying to balance out all the darkness and violence in the crime thrillers and mysteries by reading lighter stuff, otherwise I go crazy.

message 15: by Erin (new)

Erin (egambrill) Hi, I'm Erin at Arbutus. I read a lot of teen fiction and listen to tons of audiobooks (mostly nonfiction). Usually in the summer, I try to read one big classic tome. Still haven't decided what I'll take on for Summer 2011. Suggestions?

message 16: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Rodman (nicolerodman) | 2 comments Hello everyone! My name is Nicole and I am from Dundalk! I am a huge Stephen King fan, right now I am reading Thinner, one of his novels written as Richard Bachmann. I also like speculative fiction, dystopian fiction and apocalyptic fiction, which I guess could be considered part of sci fi or horror. For anyone looking for a good read in the vein of Brave New World or 1984, I would recommend Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale".

message 17: by Erin (new)

Erin (egambrill) Nicole wrote: "Hello everyone! My name is Nicole and I am from Dundalk! I am a huge Stephen King fan, right now I am reading Thinner, one of his novels written as Richard Bachmann. I also like speculative fiction..."

Hi Nicole! I just finished reading "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro and it completely reminded me of "The Handmaid's Tale" -- only less violent. :)

message 18: by Lyndsay (new)

Lyndsay | 1 comments Hi! I'm Lyndsay (RO) and I read mostly dystopian fiction, memoirs, and geography/travel/history nonfiction. I just (FINALLY) finished Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead", which I started over a year ago because it supposedly inspired some of the philosophy for the society in the game Bioshock (I kind of see it now that I'm done). I also always have a book or two about hiking/bicycling/day trips because that's what I'm usually doing when I'm not at work or school.

Hi Lyndsay,
I've been reading a lot of dystopian fiction lately. I recently finished The Unit, by Swedish writer Ninni Holmqvist, which was pretty good except for the ending, and Sigmund Brouwer's Broken Angel, which I liked a little less. What about you? Which dystopian novels have you read recently?

Hello everyone! Nicole, from Dundalk! I am at the Northpoint library!

Let's knock summer reading out of the park with Dundalk readers!!!!

message 21: by Kara (new)

Kara (karmba) Hi Everyone! I'm Kara and I mainly read mystery series (Jeffrey Deaver, Laura Lippman, Kathy Reichs etc) and romance novels : ) However I do like to try all genres. I just finished "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand and was very impressed.

Happy Reading!

message 22: by TM (new)

TM (404040404) Hi, I'm Tina; and I read...everything haha :) I like some nonfiction books, mysteries, dramas and romance novels to a certain extent, suspenseful books, and a lot of Christian literature :)

message 23: by TM (new)

TM (404040404) ^^ Oh, and fantasy books :)

message 24: by Loquaciouslaura (new)

Loquaciouslaura | 3 comments Hi I'm Loquacious Laura, My hubby nicknamed me that when we met. Didn't think about it then but it was a nicer way of him telling me "Hey I like you but you talk to much".

I love young adult novels I notice many of the writers of the young adult books that I'm reading are in their 30's too which doesn't make me feel so bad about having an interest in them. I got attacked by teenagers for being a Twilight fan um Stephanie Meyer is older than me SO... if she can think it and write it, i should be allowed to read it. LMBO KIDS!!

Also love self help & autobiographies, currently writing about obesity, childhood obesity, obesity and parenting, & parenting after having weight loss surgery.

I can thank my 6 yr old for joining this group. I admit I haven't read much in the last year but Sarah going into 1st grade will have to read and have me log her books every night next school year so I'm trying to make logging her books a habit of mine. She joined the summer reading program at bcpl, summer book log from her Kindergarten teacher, & her school's summer reading program in July too. I kinda felt left out, I wanna read for prizes too. LOL So here I am.
So very proud of Sarah, she finished 20 beginner reader books in 24 hours. 8 were read yesterday at home and the other 12 at the library earlier, she wanted to stay and read to get a prize.

**Suggestions on what to read next are welcomed**

You might like Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. She writes YA novels. Her novel Demon in my View is similar to the Twilight series: Jessica is a high school student who falls in love with a vampire named Aubrey. Jessica writes what she thinks are novels about vampires, inspired by her dreams. But then a new guy arrives at Jessica's school who looks exactly like Aubrey, right down to Aubrey's tattoos and the cross he wears.

message 26: by Loquaciouslaura (new)

Loquaciouslaura | 3 comments Melissa that sounds good too. Now that is a romance novelist's dream, having what your writing come to life with you in it.

Cool concept I'll have to check that one out too. Thanks!

Doug Beatty | 12 comments Mod
I like the Pepper Martin mystery series by Casey Daniels. She is a cemetary guide that can see ghosts and the ghosts tell her about a crime she will need to solve. The first is Don of the Dead and it has a bit of a paranormal feel but still a mystery.

message 28: by Loquaciouslaura (new)

Loquaciouslaura | 3 comments Oh yeah I'd like that one too. I'm intrigued by paranormal, psychics, things that are just to much of a coincidence to not be influenced by someone who passed.

Heres my own experience with that topic.
My Parents divorced 1994 and my mother found herself sad and depressed at her fathers grave asking him to help her get thru it.
Within that year she met Pete, (June 20, 14 years married) turns out Pete is just a nickname his real name is Wade and initials are WHW well my grandfathers name was William Hudson Weyant.
Coincidence? I think not, Pete is so amazing too!
It does not stop there...
My 6 yr old's birth father was abusive to me and after finally becoming strong enough to get rid of him I worked on my self and I probably did at some point ask my guardian angels for help. Well I met my husband in 2007 He's all I ever wanted what I always dreamed of.

His name is William same as my grandfather and Will's middle name is Francis ...My father's mother was Francis (Granny Franny)
I had a 86 buick century, he had a 92 buick century same body style too BUT a single white collar man driving a 15 yr old crappy car?
I grew up on Silver Lake in Wilmington NC, every year his mother gave him a calender of another Silver Lake, one in the Shenandoah valley. I grew up in Wilmington NC, his best friend lives in Wilmington NC.
Everything from the foods we like to our previous relationships, the similarities were crazy.
What are the odds?
I know all that is not all a coincidence.

LOL now you see why I'm called loquacious laura he he he

message 29: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (Penguino) | 1 comments Hai there, I am Sabrina. I love reading Science Fiction books, but ever so rarely I will read a Teen Fiction book. So yeah...

message 30: by Doug (new)

Doug Beatty | 12 comments Mod
Wow Laura... interesting story! I also like books about paranormal topics though I am sort of "over" vampires and werewolves. They are getting a bit overdone. I tend to like psychics and ghosts. I don't think I am psychic at all, though I would like to develop telekenisis because it would be easier to get things from across the room.... and I don't think I have ever seen a ghost. But I keep an open mind about such matters, because you never can tell.

Hello Sabrina! Welcome! Here, you can read anything you want. Teen, Sci-fi, whatver!

Amaris Loves Reading (dmcea) | 5 comments Hi everyone, My name is Donna. I enjoy young adult and adult novels and series of all kinds. I am reading several different books at once. I am working on the 39 Clues series as well as The For Corners of the Sky along with several others.

message 32: by Virginia (new)

Virginia Hi, I'm from Pikesville, I like to read short stories and memoirs, but I have read a lot of sci fi/fantasy in the past. Recently, I have been catching up on the new sci fi/fantasy that has been published in the past couple of years. I've been discovering some great new authors!

message 34: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1 comments Hi everyone! I just disovered this group from the BCPL web site. I enjoy reading just about anything and I'm usually reading 2-4 books at a time, as well as reading a lot of picture books and chapter books with my children. I just finished reading Blackout and All Clear by Connie Willis. Goodreads has been a great place for me to find so many new authors and books I may never have picked up before.

April Bagster-collins | 1 comments hi-everyone. I am a mom of three kids 11,8,3. I love to read. I pretty much read anything at least once. I love to laugh while I am reading so funny books are a plus. But there are times when I want something more serious. I love Steve Berry and Emily griffin. I just finished The Jefferson Key by Steve Berry. And also finished Highland Velvet this week too. Thanks to everyone for posting I love to hear new books to read.

Goodreads has been a really good place for me to find new authors, too. If the library doesn't have a book but a local independent bookstore does, I'll add it to a list here I created specifically for that- Goodreads is great for that.

I love funny books, too! I'm reading a really funny one, right now, called Homer's Odyssey. It's about this cat named Homer who had his eyes removed due to an infection. While it was sad that his eyes were removed, the author would relate how Homer would do some really funny things.

Then we can see what everyone is reading!

Amaris Loves Reading (dmcea) | 5 comments I would love some book ideas thse bcpl has that are downloadable either ebooks or audiobooks. I prefer not to have a physical book all the time.

message 40: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 1 comments Hi! I'm Jamie, in Kingsville. I'm a regular at the PH branch for story time and weekly check-outs.
I will read just about anything, although I'm not too fond of sci-fi. (I gave it a shot, it just doesn't grab me.) I will try anything, too.

message 46: by Brian (new)

Brian | 1 comments Hello Everyone. Brian (RO) here, I love fantasy/ science fiction, but read way too much other stuff as well. Just finished "Insurgent" and am currently reading "The Briar King".

message 47: by annie (new)

annie k (rawannie) | 14 comments Hello! I'm Annie & I'm a SAHM of 4 boys. Being a bibliophile, geek, and mother, I enjoy reading a little bit of everything, including juvenile/teen fiction. I'd like to say I read juvenile/teen fiction only because I screen certain books for my older boys to read, but that's not entirely true. I just really enjoy them :)
I'm joining the the SRC a bit late but I look forward to participating!

message 48: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 2 comments Hello Everyone! I'm Jessica Drake!! I am a total Book NERD but I love it!! I am a college student and sense during the semester I read like crazy during summer and winter break! I am still reading young adult with an occasional fictional here and there lately I've been into 16th 17th century themes... and of course FANTASY fairies...witches...vampires...revenants! message 50: by Kaley (new)

Kaley | 2 comments Well, hi there everyone! I'm Kaley, the awkward fifteen-year-old that occasionally creeps on all corners of the internet when not buried chin-deep in a pile of books.
Right now I'm re-reading the lovely novel entitled The Killer Angels, but I'm into pretty much any book thrown at me, except for those cheesey and incredibly overdone teen vampire novels.
When not reading, one can find me mindlessly reblogging gifs on Tumblr, or otherwise occupied in computer games. Occasionally I make a song, draw a piece of fanart, or geek over a TV show episode.
Currently obsessing over Doctor Who, Homestuck, and Minecraft.
I WELCOME EVERYONE, AND HAPPY READING!
