Arphaxad | 335 comments Here's mine (this actually took me ages to fill in! I'm way too indecisive when it comes to my favourite books..)

1 - The best book you read last year: Probably The Hunger Games
2 - A book you've read more than 3 times: the entire Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz
3 - Your favourite series: Argh, difficult! The Dark is Rising and The Song of the Lioness Quartet, I reckon
4 - A guilty pleasure book: the Mediator series and the Missing series by Meg Cabot (her best books, I think)
5 - A book that made you laugh: Many! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, City of Bones, The Amulet of Samarkand, Soulless
6 - A book that made you cry: The Amber Spyglass! I remember sobbing over the ending!
7 - Most underrated book: The Raging Quiet
8 - Most overrated book: Vampire Academy, ugh. (And a lot of other PNR!)
9 - A book you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving: Artemis Fowl. For some weird reason, before I read this I thought it was a classic book about birdwatching - needless to say I was reluctant to pick it up! Ha
10 - Favorite classic book: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Legend.
11 - A book you hated: The Catcher in the Rye
12 - A book you used to love but don’t anymore: the Maximum Ride series, before it went downhill :(

24 - A book that you wish more people would read: Across the Nightingale Floor and The Seer and the Sword. Do it!
25 - Character you are most similar to: Mercy Thompson from Moon Called. Both love cars and martial arts, both mixed racial background, both logical and matter-of-fact rather than emotional
26 - A book that changed your opinion about something: A Room of One's Own and Speaker for the Dead made me less narrow-minded about the books I choose to read
27 - Most surprising plot twist or ending: The last Narnia book! I was scarred by the fact that (view spoiler)

Heidi Ok I am too ADHD for this one! It seems so long. I give credit to all who have done it. Kristina I can't believe you hated the Help! That hurts my heart.

message 17: by Brandi (new)

Brandi I want to do this, but I can't stay awake long enough to do it tonight. I will try to complete my list tomorrow. Kristina, I haven't seen a post from you in the book twin conversation, but I think you are the closest I've seen to a book sibling for me (with the exception of The Help which I actually loved).

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) I just realized that I read WAAAAY too much, LOL. Oh well, someone has to do it, right?

The best book you read last year: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms (The Inheritance Trilogy, #1) by N.K. Jemisin

A book you've read more than 3 times: The Mists of Avalon (Avalon, #1) by Marion Zimmer Bradley

3 - Your favourite series: Michael Moorcock's Elric Saga; Anne Bishop's The Black Jewels books; Meredith Anne Pierce's Darkangel series; of course Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel and Imriel series

4 - A guilty pleasure book: Second-Best Bride by Margaret Rome It's so painfully, typically Harlequin, LOL.

5 - A book that made you laugh: Go Fetch! (Magnus Pack, #2) by Shelly Laurenston

6 - A book that made you cry: Acheron (Dark-Hunter, #15) by Sherrilyn Kenyon He so needed a much stronger mate than Tori.

7 - Most underrated book: Anything by Malorie Blackman and Chris Wooding. These two British authors write some of the most amazing YA books in the world. Also Holly Black's fae series: Valiant, Tithe and Ironside. No fluffy happy fairies here. She goes back to an earlier and darker tradition. Best yet, no silly unrealistic romances.

8 - Most overrated book:
Oh this one's easy Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer

10 - Favorite classic book: Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

11 - A book you hated: Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer I bought this because of a glowing review from the L.A. Times Book Review and I was still waiting for Calla to behave like the alpha female she was touted as being. It was like Twilight with wolves.

13 - Your favorite author(s): Octavia Butler, Tamora Pierce, Mercedes Lackey, Cindy Pon, Robin Schone, Bridget Midway, Anne McCaffrey, Margaret George, Ellen Kushner, Jacqueline Carey...for starters

14 - Favorite male character(s)
I have four; Lucivar Yaslana, Daemon Sadi and Saetan SaDiablo of the Black Jewels series The Black Jewels Trilogy Daughter of the Blood, Heir to the Shadows, Queen of the Darkness (The Black Jewels, #1-3) by Anne Bishop and Joscelin Verreuil from the Kushiel series Kushiel's Dart (Kushiel's Legacy, #1) by Jacqueline Carey

15 - Favorite female character(s): Tarma and Kathry from Misty Lackey's Vows and Honor series; Lessa and Menolly from Anne McCafrrey's Pern series; Phaedre no Delaunay and Melisande Shaharizai from Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series; the Duchess Tremontaine from Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint; Alanna from Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet...again, for starters

16 - Your biggest fictional crush: OMG Jamie Fraser of Outlander! You'd have to be dead or of an age where boys are still icky not to love the red hair, the kilt and that lovely brogue...grrrrowl!

17 - A good quick read: The Cruisers by Walter Dean Myers

18 - A book that disappointed you: Again, Nightshade I had such high hopes that it would go against the popular YA grain.

19 - Favorite book-to-movie conversion: The original BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. It's still the best, although Keira Knightley's version is pretty darn good too. Still, Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth...swoon.

20 - Favorite romance: Anything by Robin Schone.

21 - Favorite book from your childhood: The Egypt Game by Zilpha Keatley Snyder

22 - A book you can't wait for: the new Kiki Strike book, The Darkness Dwellers.

23 - A book you've been meaning to read for ages: Let's just say I have a very tall TBR stack.

24 - A book that you wish more people would read: Dangerous Angels The Weetzie Bat Books by Francesca Lia Block

25 - Character you are most similar to: Hmm, I guess that all depends of hair color. All of my favorite characters are multi-faceted and powerful in their own styles.

28 - Favorite book title: The Strange Fate of Capricious Jones (Iron Angel) by Robert Roman

30 - Your favorite book OF ALL TIME: There's no possible way I can name one. Maybe ten, LOL.

I heartily agree about Nightshade. What a disappointment...though, admittedly, the cover was something of a tip-off!

(Also, an extra 'yay' for Alanna! Especially in contrast to the above)

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) @Arphaxad: Actually, the cover's the only decent thing about the book. I really thought Calla would be what I'd wanted an alpha female wolf to be. Instead she just gets subsumed by the males around her. I wish I could sue the reviewer for false advertising and all the time and brain cells wasted.

message 29: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Hahahaha! I love that you posted that Vixenne. I have a whole shelf dedicated to books that have wasted my life. I try not to read anything that would be put on it.

message 30: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments "It was like Twilight with wolves."

@Vixenne Hah, exactly! Nightshade was a big disappointment to me, too. I read it because so many people liked it, but in the end the cover was the best thing about it. Calla spends a lot more time mooning over both boys in her life (oh, I like this guy...oh wait, this guy's really hot too! but now the other guy is standing in front of me and he's so cute...) than she does trying to figure out her wolfiness.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) A book that changed your opinion about something

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain . I read this as a child and it bothered me, though I always thought of Jim as being more heroic than Huck. As time went on and I learned more about Twain's life and his beliefs, I understood the book more, including his usage of the n-word. It's uncomfortable to read, and that, I think was Twain's point. He was showing us how uncivilized the supposedly civilized people really were because they denied Jim's humanity.

Sorry about the essay, LOL.

message 32: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Huck Finn is more serious than Tom Sawyer and I liked it a lot more too.

Not that it would happen in real life. Maybe I’ll be Madge who does nothing interesting but be nice and then dies. Because that’s my kind of luck. Actually she may do something halfway interesting, but not interesting enough that I remember it near midnight.

*Chuckles* I did check our books actually, since Cassi often says what I'm thinking (and is, notably, a fellow Ender enthusiast), but oddly we're only at 66%. Maybe it's because I'm stingy with my ratings! I'd certainly say we have some similar preferences though, from what I've seen elsewhere :)
