Madeline | 26 comments So if you haven't read the hunger games, stop reading this post and go BUY IT! It is one of the best books I've ever read. It may be labeled for teens but it's for people of all ages. The three books in the series are awesome. If the first three chapters seem like a snooze, keep reading. It'll get interesting, promise! If you have read the books, what did you think? Peeta vs. Gale? Who should play the characters in the movie? Should they ratethe movie R, pg-13, pg? Tell me what you think

Jenn T Rogers I just finished the last book and I LOVED it. I put off reading this series for a long time because I didn't think I would like it but a good friend of mine told me I should and so, since I trust her judgment when it comes to books, I did. So glad!. I was always rooting for poor Peeta. I like Gale. I do. But in a way, he's took much like the male version of Katniss and she needs more of a ying to her yang. And the rating depends totally on how they do the movie. If they play up the violence, then R. If they play up the characters (my choice) then I think PG-13 would cover it.

I agree with the comment about Pg-13 and R. I really didn't like Peeta all that much throughout the books and had always pictured her with gale until the last book. I wasn't even thinking about their relationship that much but because Peeta was not himself any more I missed him. I'm so happy about the ending!

Kristin (sewtechnicolor) | 55 comments I just bought the first book last week (after resisting for a long time...but everyone kept saying the series is so good that I gave in). I haven't started it yet, but I'm looking foward to it. :)

Afsana (afsanaz) | 157 comments I loved the series as a whole but wasn't to keen on the third. the second I loved the best I think

U always felt sorry for peeta but wondered could someone be so self sacrificing.

I think I get why she did what she did in the end but am sorry about her sister and you have to question do the ends justify the means?

Jennifer C I read the series and really enjoyed it too. I was hoping she would end up with Peeta but I think Gale may have been her true love.

Interesting. I wanted Gale to end up with her but at the end, it just felt right.

Jennifer (jsills3) | 54 comments These books are AMAZING. I wanted Katniss to end up with Gale but I was not unhappy with how it ended.

Lauren (theperksofbeingabookworm) | 10 comments One of the best series of books I have ever read.

I didn't like the ending much, but it didn't deter from how amazing the books are.

I hope the film does it justice!

Beverly Kennett | 27 comments I was required to read the first book in this series for a children's lit. class and I was totally drawn in after thinking I wouldn't enjoy it. I loved the fact that the lead character was a woman and I thought of her as strong, surviving and in charge of her own destiny by making the decisions she made. When I discussed the book with a male friend at class, he had a different take. He felt like the female main character was still not written as strongly as she could have been. He wanted her to control even more thant she did. Without spoiling the plot for those who haven't read the book, I will say that he got me thinking. I still loved all three books and I still feel like Katniss was empowered more than most female characters, but I did start to see my friend's point and I didn't love the ending, although it was probably realistic for the storyline.

Jennifer C at first my gut says that she could have been stronger but then I remind myself that she is just a teenager and considering all that she has been through and her strong desire to take care of those she loves, I think she is one very strong young lady. She shows the signs of growing up to be that strong person my gut wanted her to be - which is why I am not a fan of the end either, I think the end put a pretty bow on the story and tied up any loose ends way to quickly. I think I would have preferred to imagine what became of her future.

Beverly Kennett | 27 comments I agree that she is still a teenager in the stories, but besides being stonger, I was wondering about the portrayal of her and the other women in the story as the traditional nurturers or in positions of power. There were few women in the decision making roles in these books. Kat seemed to be left in the dark about a lot of the plans, which were made mostly by male characters. Did they not include her because of her age or because she was a girl? Gale was only a few years older, but he seemed to have more involvement in decisions and plans.

Jennifer C Very good point, but the leader of district 13 - wasn't she a woman and didn't she lead the revolution? There weren't many other women in power but the person who became the ultimate leader was a woman. That could have been done for a reason - to highlight the strength of these two women, no matter what their age.

Jessica | 7 comments If they plan on making the movies like the books then I don't see how they could rate it anything but R. Violence is a huge part of the books and not something that can be downplayed.

message 15: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C I agree, especially since the violence is happening to children.

Same here. The quote about how gale was all fire was a brilliant way to end it.

Yeah, I'm totally behind an R movie.

Miss Asima (missasima) | 21 comments I both loved and hated these books equally, more than anything I have ever read. I immediatly fell in love with the story and characters. I could'nt get enough. I devoured all three books in less then two afternoons. However it also had me cringing non-stop because I was so into it I was comparing it to how I would have done it, what I would have written. And apparently our opinions greatly differ. (lol) Plus I wish they had been longer and more in depth. I hated how it skipped over things and fast forwarded to future parts. But I must admit it definitly brought out many emotions in me and caused debate for days. And even if my relationship with The Hunger Games is a love/hate one, I will never forget it and I will always recommend it!

chucklesthescot Loved this series so much that I didn't want to put the books down to go to sleep. Now that has only happened twice to me since discovering Harry Potter! I wasn't really too bothered about who Kat ended up with but I did like the way it ended.

Film wise, it must not be PG anything! If you take out the killing, you lose the whole essence of the story. I'm not sure how the US ratings are worked out but I want to see it as at least a 15 over here in the UK.

message 21: by Michele (new)

Michele | 70 comments I also love this series, although I think the last one is little weak in having Katniss so withdrawn. Realistic perhaps, but more difficult for me to stay engaged in the story. I think the series could aptly be described as the anatomy of revolution. Katniss' decisions, like those in real wars and revolutions, spark the revolution that was just waiting to come out.

This is a series of books where the following is very strong in middle school and high school. I am a K-5 school librarian, and I while do NOT have the books in my library, but there are quite a few 5th graders reading them as well. The Hunger Games was up for a 4th - 8th grade student choice award in IL and even though I don't have the book in my library, it still won among my students. I have read the books and loved them, and I agree that they are violent. However there is already quite a bit of killing in PG-13 movies. Have you seen "The Dark Knight"? That movie was rated PG-13, and it is not only violent, it is a dark, twisted violence. The Hunger Games is violent, but it does not advocate violence. Even the Pirates of the Caribbean has quite a bit of killing in it. I do wonder how they will pull off a Hunger Games, movie, but I could almost guarantee it will not be rated R since so much of its audience is under the age of 17.

. | 4 comments If you have finished the amazing Hunger Games trilogy and are still going through withdrawals... I highly recommend Divergent by Veronica Roth.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Enjoyed the books, but didn't love them. The movies were alright, but again, wouldn't buy them.
