Same here, printed a list and striking lines over there :D

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments I guess I am in the minority who is updating her list regularly, I tried crossing off names and I forgot to and was getting books from the library that I already read or had books for.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1885 comments I've been very good about updating, except for the last four days - I've had a migraine.

I missed the boat on Shelfari. I went back and looked up all the books I've read, but didn't have 4 names for and came up with a few. I'll do this with anymore audiobooks. Going to update list...

message 1205: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I've been keeping my list updated. I decided it's easier to update as I read them to to make a list and update all at once. Plus I don't care if anyone uses my list for ideas.

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Can I get a ruling on the character Adriana in Quicksilver by Amanda Quick? I am not sure if she qualifies in being used in this challenge.

Sandra | 4260 comments Hina wrote: "Can I get a ruling on the character Adriana in Quicksilver by Amanda Quick? I am not sure if she qualifies in being used in this challenge."

Hina, I've checked my copy of Quicksilver because I couldn't remember a character with the name of Adriana. I couldn't find her so my guess is, unless you can come up with who/where she is in the story, you won't be able to use her.

message 1212: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments The character is named 10 times and full name is Adriana Walters. She was someones assistant (Leybrook's, I think) and is described by Owen as stunningly beautiful.

I read this and no longer have my copy. I don't remember how big a part she was in the book. I just did a search for the name on googlebooks. It shows the name being mentioned 10 times but it won't give a preview of those pages. Just little bits of her conversations.

I had crossed it off but just uncrossed it for now.

Delving deeper Mary & Hina :)

message 1215: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 4260 comments OK, I've tracked down Adriana Walters in Quicksilver. She appears at the reception and is talked about quite a lot and utters about 2 sentences. She also attempts to knock Virginia, the h, down the stairs.

My guess would be you could use her, as her character comes across clearly as a bitchy, obnoxious prat. But we should let Jane decide now I've clued her in. LOL.

message 1216: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i'd say yes...my understanding of the rule is that if you get a good idea of these character from the description or are significant in someway - even if they don't appear - i.e. murder victim who influences the outcome of the book, then they work

message 1217: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Thanks Sandra for looking into it! I was going to not use it, but with you and Dee agreeing, I will use her unless I hear otherwise from Jane.

Thanks again!

message 1218: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) | 260 comments I have a few I am not sure about and I did go back thru the posts before asking...I do know in English C and K are the same a and O, and y can often be left out, I and y are the same,

Makayla and Mikaila
Brayden and Braden
Jayden and Jaden
Devon and Devyn

This is ok I think
Hailey / Hayley
Ryder and Rider the I y rule

I am not sure which Lila is a substitute for Layla/Lilah/ or Lyla

D.G. | 4477 comments I hit the 100 mark today!

I found 4 names in Irresistible Forces: Taylor, Dominic, Ryder and Megan.

The book is just OK though...

message 1220: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I'm fine to go with the consensus on the character Adriana in Quicksilver :) All clear Hina and Mary!

Hi Lindy - All of them seem fine to me except for 'Layla'. I can't remember what the name is on the list, but Lila (probably), Lilah and Lyla would all be interchangeable. Without doing any research, I don't think Layla would fit as I pronounce that differently...

Devoured by Amanda Marrone is an excellent book. I think I read it in one sitting.

message 1225: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments hmm, I think I have that one in the pile - but I know I have 2 of the names already, so probably not worth it ;)

Lindy (lindylee) | 260 comments Been checking sounds like sights and Lyla and Lila are the same.

message 1227: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I remember looking up Lilah, Lila, and Lyla and finding them the same. But not the same as Layla.

message 1228: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments So all except Layla as fine :)

message 1229: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments But Layla is on the list too, so it works, just not for Lyla.

message 1230: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Thanks for that clarification Karen - I haven't checked the names list for a while :) My brain doesn't hold details like this for more than an hour!

message 1231: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Mine doesn't either - I had just noticed Layla recently and was thinking that none of the other names would work so I checked it and discovered Lyla was there too! :)

message 1232: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments For anyone interested, I am reading Scent of Roses by Kat Martin. It has Carson, Zachary, Maria and Elizabeth. Too bad I found this book so late.

message 1233: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments So it figures as we're heading into the home stretch-I have a run of books that I need to read for other challenges (Bookshelf Bin) or Paperbackswap with no names! Or names that I've already used. I'm reading Enders Game for a Book Club Meating and no names but Andrew which I've already used.

message 1234: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments I have only found Chasing Brooklyn for Brooklyn. Does anyone have other title. My library has it checked out. I want to see if I can read something else.

message 1235: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Homicide In Hardcover main character is Brooklyn. I haven't read it though.

message 1236: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Sorry Hina - I haven't found a Brooklyn yet in my TBR books :(

D.G. | 4477 comments Grrr...I have a book with a Leila...which to me doesnt sound like Layla OR Lyla.

message 1238: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments DG - It works for Layla - just checked pronounce names...

message 1239: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments Thanks, Jane. I just checked too and saw that. Although to me that sounds like Lee-la...not Lai-la but I'll take it!

message 1240: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I would have pronounced them the same if I came across them over here - but we all have different accents and pronunciation norms, so I like to double-check on that site...

message 1241: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments yay, I just found a laila - which i think works for layla...

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Sounds good to me Dee :)

message 1243: by Dee (new)

Thanks Mary! My library has it.

message 1245: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i think I have HiH, I just haven't read it because I wasn't impressed with something the author did on facebook - she or one of her staff deleted some comments made by someone I know here on goodreads when she asked a question about something she didn't like...that completely just turned me off her

message 1246: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) | 260 comments I am down to only one name giving me tgrouble. Need the alternates for Lyla, do i take it that Lila and Lilah will do??

I found the name in the book. i used the library general tab with the name, but i had already read it.

Hina wrote: "Can I get a ruling on the character Adriana in Quicksilver by Amanda Quick? I am not sure if she qualifies in being used in this challenge."

message 1247: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Lindy did you have a quesiton about Quicksilver? Jane said it was ok to use Adriana from that book.

I was going to use: Animal Magnetism for Lyla or Overnight Male. I have both so I just need to find time to read one.

I haven't been doing well on the names lately. So I'll probably try to focus on it a little more. I was doing pretty well for awhile with mostly reading what I want and finding a lot of names. But not lately.

message 1248: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Only one more name to read and I will be done with all the boys name!!

message 1249: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1885 comments Wow! Hina, that's great! :)

message 1250: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) | 260 comments Mary, I was looking for other spellings for Lyla. but I probably wont' need it as someone is up to 190 names and it should end soon. I was confirming the name Adriana was in Quicksilver, since I saw it on the library list.
