What are you listening to, to kick off May, or looking forward to this month?

I finished up Nora Roberts Chasing Fire and am anxiously awaiting Audible's release of Slave to Sensation and then Visions of Heat for May.

I'm listening to Lover Unleased by J.R. Ward - it's lonnggg. Also listening to Linda Howard's Dying to Please. And I too am gearing up for Slave to Sensation (Nalini Singh) this week. It's the Group Listen over at Speaking of Audiobooks.

Finishing up the delightful Mischief of the Mistletoe in the Pink Carnation series (3 more in the series) - next up, Sandra Brown: Tempest in Eden. Oh yeah, and I'm on the fence about the group listen - I read book 1 in print, liked it but wasn't inspired to go on. Should I or shouldn't I join??? My paranormal taste seems to be limited to plots set in our world, like time travel, ghosts and the like.

I finished my Harry Potter listen and I'm stuck with that bereft feeling because there's no more. :(

Way to go MaryK! Good catch spotting Slave to Sensation at Audible already. Angela Dawe has a big job with this series, so many characters to cover. As long as each couple stands out clearly in their own book I'll be a happy camper.

Just finished Predatory Game and now listening to Slave to Sensation.

I finished Spymaster's Lady yesterday (it was great) and have a few more on my iPod touch ready to go, but I'm not sure what I'm in the mood for. I still have a few categories for the SOA Listening Challenge. I originally signed up for the lowest level, btu wil probably end up doing most of the categories. It's a nice kick in the pants to get outside my usual listening habits, and to listen to more books overall.

I thought of it more as an urban fantasy myself.

Finished Slave to Sensation and loved it.

Finished In the Bleak Midwinter by Julia Spencer-Fleming. Did not like...at all.

FYI, cover images are coming up blank on my iPhone.

I decided on Mind Game (Ghostwalkers #2) by Feehan. It's a little slow, but I'm liking it fine. Stechschulte reads very deliberately and although I love his voice, the story isn't interesting enough for the leisurely pace. I've kicked the speed on my iTouch up and am enjoying it more! ;-)

most definately UF...the whole 5 books series focuses on Mac and Jerricho and the HEA doesn't come until the very last book

Carrie I agree about Mind Game, if I remember right, it picks up at about the halfway point. And listening to Tom S is all good!

I'm just wondering if you were expecting a different sort of book when you started In the Bleak Midwinter. I discovered this series last year, and I really liked all of them, but each book really builds on the previous one. I think the characters grow on you as you go through the series. But it certainly isn't a romance series even though there is an important love relationship throughout the series. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone wanting romance.

Russ is at best a barely competent police chief. He allows Clare to take over his murder investigation. Why? I dunno.

This is true in most of the books I read. I felt Clare did too many TSTL things. I read until about halfway through book four in the series and stopped. I don't have a high tolerance for adultery, even if it's "just" emotional adultery. When I realized where the author was going with the story, I bailed. I know these books are very popular, and I respect that we all have different tastes. (A very good thing, I think!)

I'm currently finishing up Control Freak by Christa Faust. It's a dark edged murder mystery set in the BDSM world.

Next up is Slave to Sensation for AAR's group read.

Christina, I was expecting a better, more profound book. Knowing ahead that it was not a romance, I decided to read it because it was recommended to me by people whose opinions I respect, because of its glowing reviews, and because so many romance readers have embraced the series.

I was disappointed on a number of levels and I explained why in my review. Clearly I am in the minority (and Carrie, too) because the rave reviews outnumber the negatives by a country mile. Glad so many enjoy it, but it left me frustrated, depressed, and sad for that unhappy community up in the frozen north.

I'm listening to the Anita Blake series.

Just finished Sinful by Charlotte Featherstone & was a bit surprised at how much I really enjoyed it (since I wasn't a huge fan of Addicted). There is also an epilogue to this book on her web site was a great ending also.

Not sure what I'll listen to next - this is a tough act to follow.

Not sure if I posted this before, but I'm giving KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER again and liking it (it was a DNF before). The Fever series convinced me to give it another try. Just finished the 4th Patricia Briggs and adored it. Not sure what's on deck.

Just finished The Wise Man's Fear. Not sure what's next. I'll probably wait until I get back from Florida (not taking my iPod with me) to decide.

I just finished Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris (I've been a Sookie fan since way before True Blood). Based on recommendations from another thread I am starting Soulless. I have a $10 credit on audible so tell me if you are loving what you are reading!

I have the $10.00 credit too, I'd d appreciate any ideas for books that are priced under $10.00.

I really enjoyed Soulless Kalenav, excellent narration.

I'm putting my $10 toward one of the two credit Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I've already read them all, but it's been a long time and it'll be a treat.

I had 40 minutes left on the Sandra Brown Tempest in Eden - a 5 hour book that I believe has gone on for about 63 hours - when I decided to take a break and go for the next book, Fern Michaels To Taste The Wine. Narrator ARRRRGGGGGGG ANNE FLOSNIK! And ya know, once again, since it isn't set in medieval or Regency England, she doesn't seem to do all those annoying vocal things she did with Balogh and other authors. So I'm actually enjoying it.

I still haven't decided about Slave To Sensation but I have credits in case I decide to do it.

Flosnick definitely has talent, too bad it's not where we'd like it the most!

You have to be in a PNR mindset and up for some world building with Slave to Sensation. But if you are, Angela Dawe kills it with the narration, she's awesome!

I've only listened to 5 minutes of Anne Flosnik narrating A Matter of Class and I couldn't take it. I'll have to read the book.

I've been listening to the same book for a week now and I still have 2.5 hrs. to go. It's not even a long book and I'm enjoying it but whenever I can pick it up, I don't.

I think I'll make a push and try to finish it today. My boss is not in the office today so I'll be able to listen to it while I do the drudgery.

Yesterday I started

Bite Club By Rachel Caine.

Finished Slave to Sensation and really enjoyed it. Just downloading Buried Prey now for tomorrow. I also have Tangled Threads and Born of Shadows on TBL list from this month.

I normally don't do paranormal but last week I listened to The Vampire Voss and then The Vampire Dimitri and now I'm hooked on the series! I think because it's set in Regency London and I love historical romance. At first the narrator, Victor Vilar-Hauser, was getting on my last nerve because he sort of whisper-talks. But I got used to him by the end of the first book and now I feel like he's the only one who could narrate this series.

I have to agree with you guys about Anne Flosnik doing Mary Balogh...the male voices are so creepy! Same thing with Amanda Quick books. But yesterday I listened to A Courtesan's Scandal by Julia London and I thought Anne did a really good job...gave the characters voices that weren't all nasally.

I'm listening to The Ultimate Millionaire right now. It's okay but I'm kind of looking forward to the end so I can start Slave to Sensation. :)

That was exactly my problem. I'm so thankful that the book started from the hero's point of view so I didn't lose more than 5 minutes. He sounded so punctilious, like he had a stick way up you know where.

KarenH, I had the same reaction to V-VH's narration on The Vampire Voss. At first I was wondering what the heck I was hearing but he gradually grew on me. His genuine upper crust, toffy accent is perfect for the bored, dissolute rake Voss. I've held back on buying Dimitri because his bickering with Maia was getting on my last nerve in the first book. How much of the Dimitri book do they spend sniping at each other? That will determine whether I listen to it or wait for Narcis.

Finally I started The Fiery Cross.

@KarenH - I struggled through Flosnick's narration of A Matter of Class and I've vowed never again! I love love love Mary Balogh but Flosnick leaves me flat.

I just finished Slave to Sensation - so good! and I started Soulless (by the scientific choosing method of it being next on my iPod!) - this is my first steampunk and I guess I wasn't expecting vampires and werewolves - I though it was just devices and dirigibles etc. Anywho, I am enjoying the narration - Macon has a delicious Scottish accent (I take it he is the hero?) and the humour is infectious.

still plugging away from my washington bio in the car...but listened to A Touch of Dead at work (uploaded the files to the amazon cloud thing) and started listening to Fire but I haven't decided if I like it yet, so I uploaded The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

Listening to Eternal Riderby Larissa Ione. So far so good. I am not a fan of reading paranormal but really enjoy listening to it.

I listened to the first 5 one after the other - I don't usually have a problem listening to or reading a series all at once provided the books are all available. The only one I kind of struggled with lately was that by bk5 of Night Huntress (plus the 2 Night Huntress world books included in there too), I was a bit Cat & Bones'd out.

On the other hand, I listened to the first 4 Outlander books back to back with no trouble at all! :)
