Michelle Gilmore | 3220 comments I don't know if anyone is interested in these books or not, but I wanted to share that I just bought the following for $5.19 - $5.58 each on amazon.com. I believe they're usually around $14 or $15. I'm looking forward to seeing these huge books on my bookshelf.

Me too. I checked the other Mammoth books, but those were the only ones on sale for now. But, I haven't checked the amazon market books yet to see if there were any available for a great price.

Debbie (halfpint66) | 138 comments I've never read any of the mammoth books. There's just so many other books I've got to get read.

Carolyn F. You can buy them for about 75 cents on half.com. I just finished one and I wanted to resell it but with it only going for 75 cents for a new copy I'll just take it to the used book store.

I think there are too many short stories. I struggled to finish it.

Seventy-five cents?! I need to check half.com out for some other books. That's too bad you didn't enjoy the Mammoth books that you've read. I haven't started them yet, but I'm hoping that whenever I do, I'll at least get intersted in some new authors.

Debbie (halfpint66) | 138 comments Even though I have read anthologies because the synopsis will catch my attention, I have a big problem with them. With short stories I always feel like the stories aren't finished. I hate that. Also, I just don't feel like the short stories show what the authors can really do if the author is someone I don't know. I want a whole story.

I have that feeling about anthologies too. That's why I rarely read them. I do keep buying them because sometimes here on goodreads, they're listed as "book 1" or " book 0.5" and I just don't want to feel like I'm missing out on part of a series.

message 9: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I like anthologies most of the time, it really has introduced me to authors who have ended up being my favorites because then I'll request their full length books if I liked their short stories. The problem with the mammoth or ones likes them I think is there are just too many stories, you feel like the book will never end and sometimes the stories that are submitted by well known authors are terrible. I think they get put in the book just because of the author's name not the story itself. I like anthologies that are less than 10 preferably 5 stories.

I agree Debbie, I'm not a huge fan of anthologies myself and get annoyed when authors will put a mini novella that's part of a series I'm following, into an anthology.

No problem :) Good to know I'm not alone!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I'm not a big anthology fan either. I usually only read them if they have a short that goes with a series I'm reading. And sometimes not even then.

A lot of people love them because they're a good way to try an author out. But the stories always feel rushed to me.

An exception to this is when it's an anthology by the same author and the stories are connected. Like Running Wild by Sarah McCarty. The three stories are connected and so it feels like 1 long story with 3 romances in it.

I've got the entire collection of Mammoth Books. But I've only actually read one of them. LOL I even have the YA collections that are form teh same publisher and edited by the same woman who does all the Mammoth Books.

I can't believe you read one of them in its entirety. I tried to start one last night, and just felt overwhelmed!

That's the one that I want to start with as well. Maybe just a short story here and there, and I can probably finish in about 2 months. I'm hoping to that I enjoy it enough to start reading some authors that I wouldn't have considered before.

I don't have them all like you do Kelley, but I have quite a few, and I've only read one whole one- The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance LOL!

Good thing is the stories are short enough to read quickly in one sitting. Most of the ones I have I've got at least one author signature too. Would be really cool to get all of them tho that will probably neve rhappen. LOL But I love getting anthologies signed by multiple authors.
