Char (CharmaineElaine) Okay, so suggestions for August's group reads go here. My mum has made a couple of suggestions so I thought I'd add them.

Christine by Stephen King

The Ghost by Robert Harris

Any particular mood for August? Or just anything and everything?

message 3: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I was going to do short and sweet but now I think just do anything because of my mum's kind suggestions lol. =D

In spirit, I've allowed the bf to put a suggestion forwards. He says Dune (Dune Chronicles, #1) by Frank Herbert

message 5: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I'm going to make a suggestion that we read:

The Picture of Dorian Gray (Penguin Classics) by Oscar Wilde

or

Postmortem (Kay Scarpetta, #1) by Patricia Cornwell

I think I like the fact that there's no YA on this list. =D

Randomly picked from my TBR piles:

The Way of Shadows (Night Angel, #1) by Brent Weeks - bit of manly fantasy.

Wolfsangel (Craw Trilogy, #1) by M.D. Lachlan - mixing of Norse mythology and werewolf lore.

Servant of the Underworld (Obsidian and Blood #1) by Aliette de Bodard - mixing of Aztecs and fantasy.

The Long Song by Andrea Levy - no idea what it is but it seems to be popular.

Lmfao. XD

I bought it at the bookshop to make up a 3 for 2 deal. :p Read the other two but this one is still waiting to be read.

message 9: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments I suggest:
The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins

message 10: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Chris, The Hunger Games is July's group read, plus it's a young adult book and we want adult for August.

message 11: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
We doing group read in August then? Or the more buddy read style option?

message 12: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I don't know. Tara hasn't said. So I thought I'd leave the topic open for now.

message 13: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Right-o.

Tara? Which would you prefer? If we go for the other option we need to find out who's interested in it.

message 14: by Neen (new)

Neen I second Christine, that's been on my TBR foreveerrr, or maybe Battle Royale I need a bit of a motivational push to read that, although people may class that as a YA, with the Hunger Games.. though I don't believe it's YA at all...

I'm hopefully off to do a huge book haul later so I will possibly be back with another suggestion =]

message 15: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Thanks for the suggestion Neen. I have to admit, I'm also curious about Battle Royale

Awesome. =D

Yes Tara, let us know! =D

message 16: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I've seen the Battle Royale movie. Twas good but weird. I would never have classed the movie as YA, as it had a lot of gory content. Dunno about the book.

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Whether you want a group read with votes or the one where a member hosts a read for a month and readers pick which book to read.

Tara-Jayne (♥ I Read, I Love ♥) Bell (tjchocolate) | 1628 comments Mod
Oh that! lol (bad memory)

Well, to be honest lets do the votes , and maybe do the member hosting the month after!

message 20: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Sounds good to me, so we start the member hosting (great name for it. I never thought of that lol.) in September?

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Who's taking first shift? So they can start preparing already.

You should start promoting it already, Tara, to give members time to realise what's going on and why.

message 26: by Tara-Jayne (♥ I Read, I Love ♥) , The Great & Mighty Mod! :P (new)

Tara-Jayne (♥ I Read, I Love ♥) Bell (tjchocolate) | 1628 comments Mod
My memory is poo, so i cnt remeber exactly what it was about!

And i could take first shift, but as i said, i need reminding what it is!

message 27: by Iris (new)

Iris (irisnijn) | 30 comments This one would do it. I've read it 9 times and I can't get enough!! The Lake of death languages by Carol Goodman The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman

message 28: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Okay, so one person lists about 5 or so books that they have and that they'd like to read. Then the other people that want to get involved say which of those books they'd like to read and then once a decision has been made we all read that book and have a lovely conversation about it.

message 29: by Iris (new)

Iris (irisnijn) | 30 comments I'm just giving a suggestion --' (:

message 30: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
You could go back and read the topic where it was posted. :p

Member hosts month's read.
Member presents other members with a list of books to choose from.
Other members choose a book to read.
Member hosts reads for the read(s) chosen.

Next month, another member hosts month's read.

message 31: by Iris (new)

Iris (irisnijn) | 30 comments My folt, excuse me. It's all new for me. ;D

message 32: by Char (new)

Tara-Jayne (♥ I Read, I Love ♥) Bell (tjchocolate) | 1628 comments Mod
Yep! ok, ill do it in september!

message 34: by Iris (new)

Iris (irisnijn) | 30 comments OKé, my folt again --' (:

message 35: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) No it isn't, it's completely fine. You just have to get used to Goodreads. It'll take a bit of time. It's probably doesn't help that we can't speak Dutch. =)

message 36: by Iris (new)

Iris (irisnijn) | 30 comments That's not that bad, I understand everyting. It's propbably I need to get used to it. (:

message 37: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) That's okay then. Haha, well if you need help feel free to ask. =)

message 38: by Iris (new)

Iris (irisnijn) | 30 comments Okay, thanks, when I have a problem, you'll be the first one who hear it. (:

message 39: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Okay. You know where to find me. =)

message 40: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I apologise Iris. I was talking to Tara but a few other people got comments in between me opening the topic and actually posting my comment. Sorry for the confusion!

message 41: by Iris (new)

Iris (irisnijn) | 30 comments No worry, It was my folt. You don't need to apologise. (:

message 42: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) how about The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco ? I haven't read it, but the reviews say it's good.

message 43: by Chris (new)

Chris | 12 comments Okay then no young adult: I suggest:
Et si c'était vrai... by Marc Levy or in english If Only It Were True by Marc Levy
Or if you want something more exciting and original I propose: Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre A.F. Choderlos de Laclos
I loved both books! (I have soon an exam on one of them)

message 44: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Okay so I've been scouring my tbr pile for adult reads and I know that I have The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold , Survivors by Terry Nation and Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder all near the top. So lets add those =D

message 45: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) Dude, we have a lot of books to choose XD

message 46: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) I know. I'll narrow it down, I just like having a big choice to narrow it down to. I like a selection of everything. It helps with my indecisiveness lol. XD

message 47: by Tara-Jayne (♥ I Read, I Love ♥) , The Great & Mighty Mod! :P (new)

Tara-Jayne (♥ I Read, I Love ♥) Bell (tjchocolate) | 1628 comments Mod

message 48: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Hmmm... we've got to have the poll first Tara! =)

message 49: by Tara-Jayne (♥ I Read, I Love ♥) , The Great & Mighty Mod! :P (new)

Tara-Jayne (♥ I Read, I Love ♥) Bell (tjchocolate) | 1628 comments Mod
I know, but make sure its on the poll! :)

message 50: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Hmm, Poison Study was good (the rest of the trilogy is cr*p, though, and Maria V. Snyder is one of the only authors that I have on my black list!), however it is kinda YA and not really for an exclusively adult market.
