The 13 weeks of summer are upon us and here comes the sun! It brings with it hot days and all the fun we have trying to stay cool. So, for all of you who need a book to read while you are getting a tan, join me!

13 weeks
6 to heat you up
6 to cool you down
1 celebration!!!

Duration: 06/05/2011 to 09/03/2011 (13 Sun-Sat weeks)
Total Books: 13
Rules:
Read one book per week for a total of 13 books.
Choose one book from each category below.
You can read any category in any week, but week #5 is set.
You may use one non-PNR/UF book.
You may use on re-read.
*You may read at your own pace if needed. You don’t have to read one each week.

Categories to heat you up:
1. Hot shots: careers/beings with heat. (Hero/ine is a fireman/explosives expert/’dancer’/chef/lifeguard/dragon-shifter/has magic that creates fire/etc.)
2. Hot bodies: sexy (and barely covered! hehe) male physique on cover.
3. Hot house : set in a high temp local. (jungle/tropics/desert/beach/hell)
4. Hot shades: flamin’ book cover color (yellow/orange/red)
5. Hot head: hero/ine has red hair OR a sexy accent.
6. Hot and spicy: ‘eating’ words in title. (flavor/spice/taste/cook/lick/suck/bite/etc.)

Categories to cool you off:
1. Cool treat: summer is for popsicles, snow cones, and ice cream! Chilly treat words in the title or pictured on the cover. (ice/chill/snow/freeze/crystal/frost/etc.)
2. Cool drink: ‘6-pack’ abs on the cover.
3. Cool breeze: forms of ‘air’ in the tile. (air/breeze/wind/storm/etc.)
4. Cool shades: ‘icy’ book cover color. (silver/grey/white)
5. Cool pad: book set in a cold place/season. (winter/space/Arctic/Russia/Alaska/etc.)
6. Cool dip: take a lap and cool off in the nearest body of water. Books with H2O in the title. (river/ocean/pool/sea/lake/etc.)

Book 13 is for week #5: Happy 4th of July! OK, true, this is an American holiday, but that is not what’s important. (important part coming…) It’s my wedding anniversary too! Celebrate with me and read a book with a related word in the title.
(four(th)/July/independence/day/wedding/anniversary/bride/groom/marry/etc.)

**UPDATE**

Since this challenge will generate weekly updates and that could make a mess if many people participate, let's do things this way...

1) As the weeks pass, generate new posts to indicate your weekly choices.
2) Please update your original post with your 'books completed' instead of reposting your progress for the whole challenge.

*If anyone reviews their book, please throw in a link to your rate/review in your updates please! I put a lot of weight on the opinions of my fellow SOS'ers when making choices for my reads. You all are brilliant after all. :)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments I’ve never hosted a challenge before so let’s hope this works OK. I worried Steph might do something like this and I wouldn’t be able to resist; then realized that I shouldn’t make her be the catalyst for all my obsessive reading commitments. I’m well qualified to be obsessive on my own. ;)

For those of us doing the Cat Connect 4, this could be a big commitment (2 books/week basically) but I made this flexible so you can ‘overlap’ books as often as possible.

Welcome to all of you that are crazy enough to participate and keep me company!

Thanks! I can see why you do this, it is tons of fun. I can't remember who it was (Sandra or Judithe?) that commented on HAWT guys. Then I made some smart crack about you making a challenge about it. Of course, I then realized that I would have liked to do something like that, but you would be slammed with CC4. What to do? Well any good friend would just help you out then, huh? :) I really did it for you Steph!!!

...Dana says as she pulls out the deed to that bridge she needs to sell.

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Awesome! I'm so glad you all like it! Welcome to you all.

This is a learn as you go for me. i.e., note to self, reserve a post at the top for 'extras'. Glad I felt the need to babble...I can use that. ;)

Perhaps you Mods should get together and write a 'Challenge Creation and Posting for Dummies' book? I woulda bought it!

I made a few updated notes on Post 1 since I forgot to consider them previously. Art=work in progress. :)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments :D You're doin' great! So, just to make sure I understand the rules of the road, we shouldn't fill in our list now. Rather, each week we post (as a new comment) which book we'll be reading that week. Then, update our original post with our completed list. Is that right?

No, not really. You can make your list and add your books whenever you like. I just meant don't repost your whole challenge list over and over every week since they take up lots o' space. I've seen you and others indicate as much. I think I should go cut and paste your phrasing on that. :)

More like...

For week #3 I will read How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper for Cool Pad (cold location=Alaska).

Then you can just add the choice to your original post to update it. Does that make sense? Like new posts for your 'what I am up to now' info, and updating your original post for recordkeeping.

It's really no big deal either way honestly. It just seems like it might be a lot to scroll through after a couple of weeks of reposting our 'master lists'. Do you think so?

***If anyone out there understands my babble and knows where to find this same info written in 'Steph-ese', let me know where to find it please!***

I've always been a fan of updating your original post vs reposting with every update. But some like the opposite. I just role with the rules. :)
