I read it years back. This was my first classy read after years of reading pulp fiction as a teenager. It blew me away. His style is allegorical which was tough to crack, yet beautiful. I became an instant and ardent fan of Marquez.

Greatest novel of the 20th century, IMHO. The first sentence alone is worth ten Swedish murder mysteries.

I try to abstain from hyperbole, but this is "one" of the greatest novels of all time.

One of...........

This is an incredibly difficult read. If l hadn't known anything about it, l probably would've put it down way before l got to page 100 and never finished it. But, l kept going and l'm so glad l did. I thought it was so amazing and such a challenge.

Why he wrote this!?"

some say he wanted to mix the myths and history of his country into a book inspired a great deal by his grandparents...

To be honest though i think the real reason he wrote this is because he had an itch.

I read a Malayalam translation of this book some 15 years ago. I was young and I would read anything those days, and I probably got thru this book in a week or so, probably less! This book left me perplexed and happy at the same time. I had tried re-reading it in last few years, but never managed to get started. May be I will give it another go in Kindle.

a very strange book, with very strange characters. I enjoyed it, but I found the plot a bit disturbing with all the incest.

just finished reading it, its officially my favorite book of all time, it might change but i dont think so.

This is a wonderful book. One of my favorites, and a great example of magical realism in writing.J.E. Murphy

I always keep a book in my car. This one sat in there for at least 2 or 3 years when I was in college. I read the first few pages a hand full of times either waiting on someone or something, but I never got that far into it. But then one day I just kept on reading it and had a hard time putting it down. I drove around with one of my favorite books for a few years and didn't even know it yet! Now there is a Faulkner book sitting in my car waiting to be read.

I find I like it because is kind of a crossover with many of his other works. And, I don't know about the rest of the world, but I particuarly like it because it reflects so clearly the mood I sometimes get living in Mexico... I don't know how to explain, but I swear sometimes life here is unbelievable... Garcia Marquez has it spot on.

This is one of my all time favorites, the realistic surrealism in it was just beautiful.

Carla Lu Marque wrote a whole world of lost gods, archetypal characters, the very soul of Latin America. Remarkable. The best book of 20th century.

I rarely put a book down once I've taken up the challenge to read it, but this one.....force marched myself into about 200 pages and threw it away! Really. Silly.

I finish the book, a few mins ago and i wanna see what people think about it, so im glad to see everyone like it.. It deserves 5 stars with no doubt. I've read it in 3 days. very fluent, i enjoy while i was reading, i feel the Buendia's family like real..

It is one of my favourites too, and loved Love in the Time of Cholera, Of Love and Other Demons and Memories of My Melancholy Whores but The Autumn of the Patriarch defeated me, I think I only got 1/3 of the way into it before I gave up! I know that one day I will give it another go, and will probably love it when I do!

After about 10 attempts to read this, mostly because Love in the Time of cholera is my favorite book, I finally got into and loved this book.
