ROBUST discussion

I'm Matt Posner. The group was suggested to me by Andre Jute. I'm an independent author from New York City. I'm also a public school teacher. I have firmly discarded the publishing industry, I despise literary agents in a very sour-grapes way, and I am committed to learning how to market myself as a self-published author using social media. It's a very frustrating task. Mostly it is writing and publishing that is on my mind and these are the topics I will read and comment upon. I will probably also engage on topics to do with education, where I am very pro-teacher and pro-union and take a common-sense view of trying to help kids. In terms of U.S. politics I am a liberal but I don't trust the supposed liberals in power to be acting in terms of liberal values. I am very cynical and I will be careful about getting into politics too much. All the same, perhaps I will be a little more direct and honest in this forum than I usually am in some others, where I try to be exclusively supportive and not controversial. I write about magic as a metaphor for the human experience in a series of books called School of the Ages. The first, The Ghost in the Crystal, is already out and the second is set to come out in August. They aren't Harry Potter ripoffs. I was writing about magicians and apprentices before J.K. Rowling was. I'm also a poet and a performer (poetry and percussion) with a group called The Exploration Project which gigs in Manhattan a few times a year. If you see fit, you may prod me to look at a topic you have posted, as I work a lot and I may miss out on something cool due to being distracted with a job or something else going on.
