well done Naomi and Karen. I know this was a difficult and long challenge, which is why it feels so good to get close or finally finish it. (And note anyone else can feel free to sign up for the challenge. Just note the date you started and you have a year from your start date.)

Is this a 6 months challenge or a year?

Yes, you can always personally set up your own timeframe. I sometimes take 6 month challenges and do them over a year if I'm busy. I started a Read all 50 states challenge last year. Instead of restart it this year as many have, I'm instead determined to continue and finish the one I started last year. That way I'll eventually actually read all 50 states instead of continuing to only read the states that most frequently show up in fiction.
If you've missed a challenge when it first came out, you can always still take part and set up your own time frame. It can be hard to come up with "new" specialty themed challenges like this one. My favorite was the one based on the board game Clue. Hard to come up with new original challenges like that often (although I am occassionally trying. lol). So feel free to do one you've missed. I'm extremely flexible. The idea is to have fun. Not to stress over the deadline on a challenge, etc.

It's up to you if you want to count them or not.
