M.A. Comley (melcom) I was interviewed by top thriller writer Robert Bidinotto today on his blog.

Here's the link.

Squuuuueeee!

Great interview.
I mentioned to Dave earlier that I couldn't really fairly compare your stuff to Patricia Cornwell as it's been such a long time since I've enjoyed her books. James Patterson, maybe but he doesn't do strong female leads. I'm leaning more toward Lisa Gardner, I think. Or maybe better to compare her to you...

message 309: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) LOL. Patti, I wouldn't really like to say who I write like.

JP was my first influence though. ;-)

message 310: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah. You write like Mel. :)

message 324: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I woke up to this message on my FB page this morning, this lady befriended on FB a couple of weeks ago.

Thank God for FB - I LOVE your books -- my husband is beginning to worry about me - I am reading your second book and can't put it down - I read until 3 a.m. and when I woke up at 8, the first thing I did before I got out of bed was to start reading again. FB helped me to find your work. Happy Holidays - Merry Christmas.

How sweet!

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments Hello Mel

I received a "Happy Christmas" email from Guide2MidiPyrenees. You would be interested to know that they were offering "Cruel Justice" as a free prize in a competition - one of those where you have to join Facebook to enter. I am sure you know about this already, but ... just in case.

The "Guide2" organisation were incredibly supportive of me when I was doing the big walk - they did a report on my progress every day.

message 332: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks Vic, that's good to know the ad is working.

It's for the paperback version.

Good luck with your walking in the future! ;-)

I'll let you into a little secret, Mel. I don't like walking all that much - it's too slow. I only did it in a big way for a couple of years so that I would be fit enough to walk the 2,000 kms - and I did that to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer - and to write the book, of course.

I walked about 12,500 kms altogether, with the training.

message 335: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm exhausted just reading your post, Vic.

message 336: by Vic (last edited Dec 27, 2011 02:15AM) (new)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments And I managed to get the book out in double-quick time (it went to two publishers - who said they liked it but didn't have room in their schedules) before I put it out as an e-book in time for the first anniversary of the walk finish.

How did I do that? I dictated it as I walked from SW France to NW England. I would recommend any walker or runner, who also writes, to carry a dictaphone - they are so small nowadays.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments If I did that it would be a loop of 'I'm tired, I'm bored, I wanna sit down'

;)

message 338: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) That's great Vic, I think I read about your story in the Connexion paper either last month or the month before.

You're a star! ;-)x

I divided the whole walk up into 70 days, and each day up into, ideally, 3 sit-downs, wherever I could find a cup of coffee, which, unfortunately some days, was nowhere.

You're right, Mel, it was in Connexion. I walked through Normandy and stayed overnight in several places.

I can't emphasise enough that there is a book about all this. :-)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments This is elsewhere in the forum, but you may be interested in seeing it - it is the BBC tv coverage of the finish to my big walk.

message 342: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) That's excellent, Vic. Not sure I could do it. Actually, correct that I definitely couldn't do it. ;-)

message 343: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments hey Mel, good news, i saved your books for a very long coach trip over to luxembourg where i went for the christmas period, i had to make sure i had something special lined up to survive the 15 or so hours of semi-captivity... and i have to say, you didnt let me down at all... bout half way through final justice and am thoroughly enjoying my time in Lorne's world... i will pop some reviews up once things have calmed down a lil... :)

message 344: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Kath, that's lovely to hear.

I hope you had a lovely Christmas over in Luxembourg and that the weather was good to you.

I woke up to a lovely review for my doggie book this morning. Here's what the reviewer (in America) said.

This was the first book I read. Not too long a great way to start reading again. I also like the size of the print. Very easy to read. Thanks Kindle Fire for getting me back into reading.

So glad she liked the Fire! lol

message 345: by M.A. (last edited Jan 01, 2012 02:51AM) (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Happy New Year to you all!

I just wanted to drop in and say and massive thank you for the support you've all given me in 2011, it was very much appreciated.

Time to get back to the writing now that all the festivities have finished.

Good luck and health to you all for 2012. xx

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hi lovey darling!

Feel like we haven't spoken in days! How's tricks? Feeling better?

message 347: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Yes, thanks, Patti. Still need to visit the dentist but as they don't give anaesthetic over here, I'm delaying it intentionally! ;-)

How was Poland, was it very distressing?

message 348: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Auschwitz was yes. Still very glad I went though. Krakow is a beautiful city and everyone is so friendly.

No anaesthetic???? How very 19th century. I see a trip through the channel in your near future.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments What?
No anesthetic?
What sort of country do you live in Mel?

message 350: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I know, I couldn't believe it, Simon. The last time I had a filling the dentist hit a nerve and I had to be scraped off the ceiling!

Sort of puts you off going! ;-)
