Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments You can use our dentist, Mel. Also in France, but he certainly uses anaesthetic - as you would expect. But he is, as I recall, 44 days walking distance from you, so quite a while in a car.

I remember once having a tooth extracted without anaesthetic. That was in New York.

message 352: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks Vic, I've made it a new year's resolution to search out another one! lol

message 353: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I'll give you the details of the Polish dentist I saw last week, totally fell in love with him !

message 354: by Vic (new)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments Wasn't there a thing about dental tourism to Poland a few years ago - maybe still is. You could go to Poland, have a holiday, have your teeth done, crowns, bridges, the lot - and still save money over just having the dentistry in Western Europe.

I don't think there are any poor dentists. Lorraine, did you see the picture of my grandson?

message 355: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Yes, I did, he's gorgeous. I know how you must feel, my parents see Ollie only once a year if they don't come to visit us. It's never enough, is it! Oh and I finally bought your book earlier too :)

I don't know about poor dentist, but the Polish dentist experience was so much nicer ! He had the music on for a start, and kept singing Xmas carols while his hands were in my mouth! There was a bit of flirting between him and the nurse, it was just so funny, I don't think I have ever had such a stress free experience ever !

message 356: by Vic (new)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments Thanks for getting the book, Lorraine. I hope it doesn't make you homesick.

message 357: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I'll be okay Vic, might actually give me some ideas as to where to go and explore when I go back :)

message 358: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Good luck with your book, Vic. Have you made a thread for it? I'm sure loads of people will want to snag a copy! ;-)

message 359: by Vic (new)

Vic Heaney (vic_heaney) | 689 comments Thanks, Mel. Yes, there is thread for my book. It is at this moment two places below yours in "Meet the Authors":

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...

All the proceeds from my book go direct to pancreatic cancer research.

I did a short review of "It's a Dog's Life" on Goodreads last night. As I mention there - I have met several of these abandoned and rescued greyhounds.

message 360: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Ah, Bless you, Vic, see I'm looking at the author threads with my eyes shut again! lol

That was kind of you to leave a review. I think the next dog we get is going to be a greyhound. ;-)

message 361: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I've just written a blog post about something that is preventing me from writing at the moment! Think I need a PA.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments It's awful Mel. I'm so sorry.

message 364: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks guys, it's definitely a pain in the rear end! ;-)

message 365: by Libby (new)

Libby Loved IT'S A DOG'S LIFE, Mel. So sad. And so happy at the same time. You did a great job. Hope you make a fortune from it (She's donating the profits to a dog rescue organization...)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Read High Spirits last night Mel and really enjoyed it.Now I have read them all I eagerly await your new book.*hint, hint*

message 367: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Bless, thank you guys! Sarah, I'm in the middle of two projects at the moment plus I've just taken onboard writing for an online mag. How hours are there in a day again?

;-)

message 368: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Writing for an online mag? That's awesome !

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Did they not give you an extra hour when you moved to France Mel?,I think you should complain! :@)

message 370: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) We'll see how it turns out! ;-)

I wish, Sarah, it would be nice. ;-)

I think it will mean less time procrastinating on here though! ;-(

message 371: by Lorraine (new)

message 372: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hey! You! Yeah, you!

Mel!

I have a question for you! C'm 'ere a minute, eh?

(drives Dave mad when I say that to him) hehe

message 373: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I'm here, Patti. ;-)

Just fell asleep at the computer! lol

Went next door to the neighbour's last night to share a Galette with them! ;-)

message 374: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hiya Toots!

What's a Galette? A really BIG bottle of wine?

We're having a chat about KDP select in Steve's thread. Well, I am. I think I'm debating myself, actually.

I just wondered if you decided to put a couple of your short stories into the programme? I believe you had mentioned you were thinking about it?

message 375: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) A Galette is like an apple pie, it's for epiphany, Lorraine could tell you more! lol

I have two shorts in the select programme and just made the decision to put one of my main books in it too.

One of my shorts is going FREE on Tues-Thurs this week. ;-)

message 376: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I thought galette was anything made with pastry to be honest, from the Britton shortbread to the marzipan thing for epiphany :)

I'm hungry now !

message 377: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Didn't know that apple pie makes one sleepy. Must have been a lot of wine in it. ;)

Oh cool, freebie! Bet I've already got it. Will be shocked if I haven't.

I'm really interested in if you find doing the KDP thing worthwhile.

Downstairs neighbour's grand daughter must be visiting.

Thud thud thud thud

Thud thud thud thud THUD

WAAAAAAAAA!

Think she ran into a wall. Poor wee thing. Won't be doing that again....

message 378: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) LOL! Hope the little cherub is all right!

I think I'm having much more success in the US with my books Patti at the moment, which is fine as I have a US agent anyway so the better my sales over there the better it is to get a deal. That's how I'm looking at it.

To be honest Patti the select is a personal choice, depends if an author is selling elsewhere or not. Impeding Justice is rocketing up the Nook chart so I'd be an idiot to pull that off Barnes and Nobel.

;-)

message 379: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Nook, eh? Interesting.

I'm quite expecting things to be happening with Kobo, too. They seem to be really pushing the marketing of it.

America is a much bigger market than the UK, isn't it? Getting your name well known there would certainly lead to more sales.
I guess the biggest thing I'm seeing with KDP is the huge amount of freebies that a book can get so lost in. I must admit that the quality of the freebies seems to have improved a bit, though. At least there are more gems to be found than ever there was.

message 380: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) That's true, Patti about the freebies.

And yes I think the KOBOs sold well over Christmas, only time will tell as to what that will do to our sales. ;-)

message 381: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I have a FREEBIE out today.

Passion, Fire and Fury by Mel Comley

message 382: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I've just received a wonderful review for It's A Dog's Life Mel Comley by Mel Comley brought a tear to my eye. ;-)

This review is from: It's A Dog's Life (A DI Lorne Simpkins novellette) (Kindle Edition)
I'm a big fan of Mel Comely's DI Lorne Simkins series. This novella is a stellar addition to the trio of novels she has written.

Very moving story of Greyhound rescue, based on a true story. It is a shocking abuse what happens to many of these fine animals when their racing career is over. Comely expertly exposes the dark side of dog racing and many dog owners. Stiffer laws are needed to protect these animals from such abuse.

Well worth the 99 cents price tag and for that you get a highly entertaining tale and support animal rescue since all proceeds go to PUPS.

Well done, Mel. You deserve an award from PETA.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh Mel! How lovely!

message 388: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) There's nothing anyone can do I'm afraid, but thanks for the offer, hon.

I have my article to get ready for the mag today and I'm in the middle of three new projects! ;-)

Hope Ollie's behaving himself! ;-)

message 389: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments He's okay Mel, digging all his lost toys out from under the sofa at the moment lol !
Take it easy Mel, okay, we don't want you getting exhausted x

message 390: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I'll try!

Hope Ollie finds what he's searching for! lol

message 391: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hiya Mel! Be sure to keep us updated on how things are going, eh?

I second Lorraine's offer of help, of course. if I can do anything for you just let me know. :)

message 392: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks Patti, it really is much appreciated.

It's tough being a writer full-time with so many demanding fans to please! lol

Did you manage to get your visa sorted out?

message 393: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not yet. Dave goes to collect it on Friday. It gets worse. There's a general strike in Nigeria at the moment and the company has banned all travel to and within the country indefinitely. There are some articles on my Facebook page if you have time for a peek. :(

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Everytime I think I have read all your books another one pops up! Not complaining.LOVING IT! Thank you Mel.

message 395: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have one on my kindle ready to be read. Maybe I'll use this as an excuse to make it the next one I read. only 30% of my current book left.

Katy | 2662 comments I feel the same Lorraine! (:

Don't wear yourself out, Mel! We're all here for you x

message 398: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Forget that, Katy!

Write Mel! Write! ;)

message 399: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I realised Mel that the only book I had of yours was the 2nd one so I had to go and buy the first one, I can't start reading not at the start of the series. Loving it so far and only just at chapter 8 :o)

message 400: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Ah, thanks Jud, I think it's my best book but then they're all different! lol

Sorry guys, didn't mean to ignore you all, I didn't get notified that you'd left a comment for some reason.

One of my friends on FB sent me a message yesterday, unlike other authors I strictly forbid my friends leaving reviews for my books on Amazon.

Here's what she said.

Mel!!!! I read It's a Dog's Life last night - beautifully written, I loved it and I now want to rescue a greyhound (we've been thinking about it for a while) - there is a greyhound rescue not that far from us....well, when I say 'we' I obviously mean 'me' as Hubby won't want another doggy, but I think some company for Bertie would be good!! :) xx

My job is done! lol

Oh and btw, Lorne has a new partner in Justice 4 (haven't got a title yet) and she's just hit some major conflict, almost 20,000 through it at the moment. It has to be ready for the editor by April, no pressure then! lol
