... oh yeah !

I want to read the books before I watch the film, although I'm sorely tempted.
I watched Source Code this evening. A very entertaining film and I can understand the references to Sliding Doors and Groundhog Day.

I welcome your opinions, as always.

Will have to watch it a few more times to catch all the nuances.

One film he made, Grave of the Fireflies, is absolutely heartbreaking. It is about two children dying of malnutrition in Japan after World War 2. It could not be made as a normal film as they could not show the terrible emaciation.

Thank you, Geoff. It's so nice having a couple of resident geeks!
Xxx

The dude in the apple shop set it all up for me.
At my sisters' yesterday we watched The King's Speech. We hadn't seen it before and we loved it - such good acting! I had already read The King's Speech and enjoyed that; it's not a book of the film but a biography of Lionel Logue written by his grandson from Logue's diaries and letters. I enjoyed the film even more with the background knowledge I'd gained from reading the book!

I'm looking forward to making our way through the huge box of DVDs we're taking back to the island. So many that I can't even remember what we got now.
A load of war films, that I know. Dave likes them and I've actually enjoyed few in the past.
The Pacific and Letters From Iwojima (not sure of the spelling, sorry) were both excellent.

Eastwood is one of the greatest film directors of his generation. He is incredibly prolific. He has made more films than Steven Spielburg and George Lucas combined.
You might want to grab hold of Changeling and Grand Torino. Both fabulous films on quite different subjects.

Have you seen Band of Brothers?

If you are looking up war movies, look out for We Were Soldiers. Despite starring Mel Gibson, it is a brilliant reproduction of General Hal Moore's book of the first major battle involving the US in Vietnam.

David Simon, the creator, said he didn't want it to be an easy series, but more like War and Peace, so that when you got to the end of it you knew you'd been on an epic journey. Many people consider it to be the best television series ever made.
You might also want to get a hold of Deadwood. A very good western series. I see Calamity Jane in a whole new light now. It is worth the series just to meet Jewel the cleaner in the saloon. A brilliant character.

So disappointed that Deadwood was cancelled. itvshould have run for a lot longer.
Have you watched Carnivale and The Shield? Also The Corner?

We'll be back around the middle of December.

I'm just the opposite. I enjoyed The Corner. Dave didn't, though. I watched all but the first episode by myself. I couldn't get into the book. Have given it to the library on the island.

It never fails to amaze me what some people can and can't take. Take for instance, the film Be Kind Rewind, that I referred to above. To me it is a really good, feel good movie (Sorry Ian) with a great story and very comical but not very slapstick despite Jack Black being in it. Other people just don't get it.
Another favourite of mine is Amelie. I loved that film, it was so magical. I saw it again with Linda and my Mom and we got to the end and they both said "What was that all about?" Ah well, if we weren't all different it would be a boring world indeed.

It'd be horrible if we were all cardboard cut-outs of one another.
I'm in such a great mood this morning! I'm hiding in the bedroom so I don't have to look at all the half-filled boxes and suitcases scattered in every other room in the flat. Including the kitchen worktop. Argh. That one will have to be shifted before I cook today!
Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts.

No Patti, that's "The Hairdressers Hung Bad".

Planes, Trains and Automobiles!
Now thatvwas a good film! I miss John Candy. RIP

Speed 3 was the Father Ted episode with the milk float.
