Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments STAR WARS:THE RISE OF SKYWALKER or, as it could easily be known, RETURN ON THE JEDI IN FANCY NEW CLOTHES.

If there was anything new or original about this film then I must have missed it. The plot is taken wholesale from other films in the STAR WARS franchise and reheated over a low flame until it is lukewarm. It's OK, the effects are good and there is much running around, but it's a bunch of paper thin characters against spectacular backdrops going through a bunch of repeated not-so greatest hits.

Time to hang up the franchise for a while.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Lots of TV starting this week, looking forward to the new David Tennant drama, Deadwater Fell.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I watched Cats at the cinema last night, I think me and my friend were lucky that we didn't know the plot or what to expect, so while it wasn't the best film I've watched, we were able to enjoy it, although I did spend the first half wondering what the plot actually was! There were some random moments in the film though.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Just finished binge watching BBC's The Split series 2 - wonderful stuff (the excellent Stephen Mangan, Nicola Walker plus lots of other brilliant actors) Hoping there'll be a Series 3 eventually!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Ooh, I didn't realise they had put the whole series out, I did enjoy the first series.

Les | 266 comments Just started watching The Stranger on Netflix. It's very good and I can imagine the book is very good as well.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Finished a few Sky shows this week, The Inbetween and Cobra, my favourite at the moment is Blue Bloods.

Would appreciate film and TV reccies please.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments We've just about run out of catchup tv, so might have to 'revisit' some of my dvds! If you like a bit of courtroom drama, 'Silk' was excellent - with the wonderful Maxine Peake.

message 12610: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments I am guessing you are up to date with the Welsh crime dramas, Patti - loved 'Hidden' - both series. and there was another set in Aberyrstwyth, I think called 'Hinterland' - very bleak stuff and a wonderfully gruff frowny detective. I'm sure you'll have watched Keeping Faith. Eve Myles is terrific.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I doubt after 3 weeks of lockdown I could run out of TV, box is completely full, never mind what I want to watch on Prime and NowTV, might even be able to watch enough to justify Netflix. If only i could watch more than one episode at a time! Did enjoy Silk, like most things with Maxine Peake. All 3 of those were good Karen, it was called Hinterland

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Didn't do much for the Aberystwyth tourist board!! it was always grey/raining - and the current 'Hidden' is just the same! We do have lovely weather in Wales sometimes, honest

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments No, we def had a lovely sunny day. I remember it well

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Any suggestions for decent horror/thriller/psychological films free on Prime?

message 12616: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I've been watching Spooks on iPlayer. I'm spellbound. One episode a night. Just finished the second series and heartbroken at Matthew McFadyen walking into - oh sorry that would be a spoiler. Perhaps.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I'm contemplating watching that. Currently watching temple on nowtv

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Been thoroughly enjoying Sky One's Brassic, filmed in the village I used to live in. Actually hilarious

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Wasn't sure about Temple, but thoroughly enjoying season 2 of The Knick, the eugenics talk utterly scares me, and interesting that in both this and Murdoch mysteries, certain mental conditions are being treated by removing teeth!

message 12620: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments The Knick? Which channel could I find that on, please? It's not that I want to read about removing teeth...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I'm watching it on Now T.V., there are two series, i watched the first a few years ago. It didn't show the teeth removal but does show operations being carried out, not in the same way as current shows as they are just discovering techniques

message 12622: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Ah... I'll have to investigate, thank you.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ozark.

Everyone I know is watching Ozark.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Watched Code 404 this week, not the best, but only 6 24 min episodes. Now started Mosaic as it only has 22 days left on NowTV

Ozark is a fine piece of TV and it just gets better and better as the seasons progress

Will give it a go then - still working our way through Homeland and Suits at the moment. Plus a few good films. And a lot of rubbish ones...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I staetes DEVS this morning, interesting concept

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I've watched most of Devs; it is, as you say, an interesting concept. Different.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm barely able to concentrate on 3 minute phonics videos off youtube to send to my kids at the minute.

You can imagine how well report writing is going.

Jim | 21809 comments "Should try harder" was always a favourite and seemed adequate at the time

"Who is this child?" was another I saw from a sports master who felt somebody had under performed :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I've just finished Devs, not sure I liked the ending

I once had "Very good," for Art. It was a shame I felt obliged to point out that I didn't take Art.

A lot of the reviews say that

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Just watched Red Dwarf, The Promised Land, really enjoyed it

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've been stress watching YouTube of an evening.

Loads of old B&W Twilight Zones and other 50s shows.

Also loads of stand up.

I really enjoy Michael McIntyre

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I watched The Planets - probably third time but Brian Cox is easy to watch and the planets never fail to fascinate me.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Enjoying Staged with David Tennant and Michael Sheen very much. Just seems to be hitting the right note!
Sewing Bee is great Pam. The judges are great

Yes it is the new Bake Off for me, I never made the transition to the new version. I didn't know about Sewing Bee until this series sadly.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I'm still watching Spooks, one episode a night. Crikey there's a lot of them. Something like 9 or 10 series and about 7 episodes in each. Interesting and gripping.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I wouldn't mind rewatching Spooks. I have just finished watching Save Me, will definitely watch the second series

message 12645: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Has anyone watched Cardinal? Canadian crime series. I'm wondering whether to try it. But I've just made a little list of possibles to watch and I want to prioritize them.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I really enjoyed Cardinal, not watched the new one yet

message 12647: by David (new)

David Hadley Cardinal - Yes.

Thought the first series was pretty good, and am now about halfway through the 2nd series on iplayer.

message 12648: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Thanks, Desley. That helps. I don't watch the TV too much but with the lockdown I've been plonked in front of it for a couple of hours each evening and one day we shall run out of Spooks!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Watched Save Me and Save Me Too - wasn't keen on the second one until the last episode! Watched 2 episodes of the new series of Cardinal.

message 12650: by Karen (last edited Jun 30, 2020 09:46AM) (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments We're still catching up on Homeland - we may be some time! When the footie is on, I'm also catching up on Sewing Bee - Joe Lycett has really 'clicked' with the set up - he's such a joy.
Haven't had time yet to start on Ozark. It's on the list.
