Goodreads Librarians Group discussion

I have, in my hand, a copy of "The Power of One" with ISBN 034541005X. But the entry with that ISBN doesn't match the book I have. The cover, page count, and publication dates are all different. (Though it did have the correct cover when I first added it to my bookshelf.)

If you search Amazon for this ISBN, you get even more conflicting information, such as the book having 544 pages instead of GoodReads' 528, or my book's 518.

I'm so confused. What's going on here?

The cover matches up with Amazon, which is probably why Otis uploaded that cover 6 days ago. No idea about the page number thing; the librarian log reflects no changes to that field.

It looks like the ISBN has been used on two editions; one with the other cover, and the newer cover which is on Amazon. I manually entered what I believe to be your edition (info from GoogleBooks and WorldCat); please feel free to edit if I got any details wrong.

That's more like it! I think the book was only published for a month with this cover. Mine says August 1996, and the other says September 1996.

I'm guessing they were published in different countries. That would explain the slight difference in publication dates, as well as the covers.

It doesn't explain why they share an ISBN, but that's another story.
