I never read any of his books - but of course know him through the David Lynch connection as well as his interest in Noir. Did he not edit the original Black Lizard series? If so, he deserves a statue in Union Station for just producing that series - and getting the Goodis and Thompson stuff back in print (for at least a litle while)

Sadly enough aside from Wild At Heart the only other thing I've read by him is his book on Noir" Out Of The Past". When's he coming, I'd love a chance to see him.
