Alissa Do you ever feel like reading but you're just too busy with work/school? I feel this way right now. The fall semester started earlier this month, but things are now starting to require more study time as we get into the harder material. I want to be able to sit, relax and read a book, but I feel like that time could be used for studying.
Does this ever happen to anyone else? Or am I the only one?

It's happening to me right now. So I cherish when I can read.

message 3: by Amber (new)

Amber (bermarie) Me to. I feel like I don't havee enough time to read because now I actually HAVE to listen to what my teachers are saying because others I'll get behind. There's just not enough hours in the day.

message 4: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (ramblingbooks) | 121 comments It happens to me all the time. I'm so busy with school that I don't have as much time as I'd like to read. A book that will normally take me a day or two to finish will take me a week or longer. It's so annoying. There are not enough hours in the day to get everything done and still have time to relax and read

It happens to me too. i havent picked up a book in a long time, and all i do now is a bunch of stuff for school and there's no time for reading. and when the weekend comes, i feel like it goes by waay too quickly

Simcsa Alissa wrote: "Do you ever feel like reading but you're just too busy with work/school? I feel this way right now. The fall semester started earlier this month, but things are now starting to require more study t..."

Totally yes! The school is killing me! And the worst is that when I read I often think of what I should do instead and how much work do I have and it tends to spoil the reading experience.

Alissa Simcsa wrote: "Totally yes! The school is killing me! And the worst is that when I read I often think of what I should do instead and how much work do I have and it tends to spoil the reading experience. "

That is exactly how I feel. I end not enjoying reading because I get anxious about what school work I have to get done. Right now, school has eased up a little bit and I started reading my first book in about a month.

message 8: by Shelby (new)

Shelby | 20 comments School right now is death to my reading! I'm having hard time finding a reasonable hour to read (instead of cramming in a book before "bedtime" at 2 am).

message 9: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Barrett That's why I love the holidays in school. Especially the long ones, then I can sit down a read a book in a day but now homework gets in the way. it's not fair!!

message 10: by David (new)

David Santos (authordas) I have nothing going on in my life. But I run my website and wwrite other books and that is very time consuming. I can get through a book in 5 hours, but when to find 5 hour where my ADD doesnt kick in is the problem.

message 11: by Lea (new)

Lea (leabaker) I know exactly how that feels. Between work and school I barely have time for much else. Now that I'm so busy all the time I try to pack my lunch for work and take a book, that way I can just sit in the break room and read for a bit.

message 12: by Lea (new)

Lea (leabaker) Shelby wrote: "School right now is death to my reading! I'm having hard time finding a reasonable hour to read (instead of cramming in a book before "bedtime" at 2 am)."

I'm bad about that! I'll stay up late then try to read just a chapter or two before bed only to stay up a few extra hours reading most of the book. The only problem with that is waking up the next morning!

message 13: by Noor (new)

Noor Jahangir | 29 comments All the time. :-)
And there's even less time to write.

message 14: by Ro (new)

Ro | 4 comments Yes! Between school and school, there's just not enough time to catch a break! I have a really bad habit of trying to fit in trying to read books at 2 in the morning. Which I know I'll have to pay for later. But...I honestly think it's worth it at times!

I so agree!

message 16: by Kerem (new)

Kerem Mermutlu I really feel as though there are just too many good books that i want to read and my time just falls away :( Still, at least there are books :) A world without books would really really suck.

message 17: by Andre and Sophie (new)

Andre and Sophie (sophiem) | 15 comments OMG! All the time! I have a lot of homework to prepare for college or whatever and it's killing me to find time to read. And then when I am reading I lose myself. When I "come up for air" it'll be like 11pm.

message 18: by MeMe Belikova (new)

MeMe Belikova First lady Ivashkov (alicebelikovreads) | 44 comments All the time! I work everyday and have a son to take care of but I always make time for me to read, but time just goes by soooo fast when you read, there is not that many hours in a day I swear #UGh

message 19: by Angie (new)

Angie (booksfreakz) OMG! Yes, that's exactly how I feel! I used to be able to finish up a book in a day or two, but now it took forever.. And there are so many good books lining up for me to read.. :(

Colette-writer-reader-dork (ColetteWriterreaderdork) | 498 comments All the time, I can never finish a book fast anymore!

message 21: by Nataly (new)

Nataly (natalyreads) | 490 comments Sometimes I really want to read and finish a book, but I get busy with other things and I'm not able to. I'm not that busy very often though, usually when I don't read I'm on GR which takes away my reading time....

message 22: by Jazmin (new)

Jazmin | 267 comments I do, especially during the school year:P

message 23: by Jihaad (new)

Jihaad Albayaty | 2733 comments lol all the damn time especially now that i found this place and have so many more books to read

message 24: by Schay (new)

Schay Lol I've just started uni, and I'm sick of it already. During the summer holidays, I could read through 11 books in a week, but now it's taking me DAYS just to finish one book.
Christmas can't come fast enough :D

I agree.I have PSAT testing 2morrow and I only read at lunch.I LOVE breaks where I can read books for hours. It really is not fair!!! I got 8 books to read from the library!!!

message 26: by Eva (new)

Eva (bookworm_eve) All the time.... but that's BS, because I only work 3-4 days a week when I'm lucky... so I actually have plenty of time.

I usually want to read at the stupidest moments (1 hour before going to work for example..)

In about a month? Ouch! I hasn't read a book for week and I'm devastated. How do you cope with it?

message 28: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Baethge (22niel) | 13 comments I get up early cause others in my house are getting ready for work and school. Usually I read an hour or so until I'm ready to eat breakfast.

a lot good luck

message 30: by Pj (new)

Pj (pbookbuddy) i never have enough time, even though i spend all of my free time reading

message 31: by cazdoll (new)

cazdoll I only get to read a good bit if I go to bed early, have a nice long bath or Sunday, other than that I'm doing housework or working, I can't remember the last time i sat down and read all day.

message 32: by Valencia (new)

Valencia (empowered) Yes I do!!!!!!!!! Ugh... I hate that. Ereading as helped, but it's still not enough time in the day.

message 33: by Jc (new)

Jc Mar (jc_mar) | 23 comments That is so understated! Between work, family, my honey, friends and a some-what social life I feel like I'm squeezing pages to read anywhere I can! if it was up to me, id look myself in my house alone turn off phones, tv,internet and read all day long! :)

message 34: by Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ (new)

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ ever since i started high school i've been buried with homework and hardly have any reading time, between studying and all this other stuff. it can get annoying but i read as much as possible

message 35: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (bigdreamsandwildthings) | 1 comments I'm in my first year at university and at the beginning of the semester, I felt like everything I loved was going to have to be put aside because of the insane amount of work I had to do. But it got better as I sorted out all my priorities and found my routine, and even though I still get that "I should be studying" feeling when I sit down and read, I've learned that it's a balancing act. Reading and writing are things I love so I have to make time for them, especially when I'm feeling completely burned out. Like right now - first set of finals coming up and Maggie Stiefvater's The Scorpio Races is getting me through!

message 36: by CαthεεBooks (new)

CαthεεBooks (catheehales) What gets me through is that I'll soon about about three weeks to read since it'll be Winter break!!! YEAH!

message 37: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 16 comments Wow, I feel like such an old man here, but I find I don't have enough time to read because I have three kids under the age of 5. Between work, writing, and the chaos of babies everywhere, I'm lucky to squeeze a chapter or two in a day.

message 38: by Sabine (new)

Sabine Reed (sabineareed) I read during the day...somewhere or the other. I can't go to bed without reading at least a chapter.

message 39: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 16 comments I flip open my Nintendo DS and use it as a light to read in bed, so I don't disturb my 2-year-old sleeping in crib nearby. Ridiculous.

message 40: by Lori (new)

Lori Strongin | 21 comments Ditto. If they could just add two more hours to the day...

I try to squeeze in some reading during my lunch hour at work (if my team doesn't implode in the meantime), or a bit before bedtime. But unfortunately, I'm typically too exhausted to concentrate, or my eyes feel like they're going to bleed out of my skull for me to be able to see the words on the page.

message 41: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 16 comments Well, here's hoping your eyes don't end up bleeding out of your skull.

message 42: by Simcsa (new)

Simcsa Lori wrote: "Ditto. If they could just add two more hours to the day.."

We could make it at least 5 hours then. ;)

message 43: by David (new)

David Santos (authordas) Well I have no job, no college, no little woman, so I have all the time in the world, but still I look at some books and think "nope no time to read it" aha I think the reason for that is because I am too stressed to sit and relax.

message 44: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 230 comments right now, i have no job. so i have time to read. so i keep reading till sunrise :)

message 45: by Jim (new)

Jim Maher | 16 comments Ah, the days of reading until sunrise. I used to do that all the time. On Friday nights as a kid, because I had no school the next day, I would take a huge pile of books to bed because my parents weren't exactly 'enforcing' the lights-off rule that night. So awesome.

Jude (judehnd) | 565 comments Mod
I never ever EVER have enough time to read D:! I have 40 Books in my ASAP Pile! and then I have my review request pile and the must-read pile and the normal tbr pile :(

and my addiction to buying 5 books minimum every time I visit a bookstore is not helping u_u

I seriously should start a Compulsive Book Buyers Anonymous club...

message 47: by Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ (new)

Sᴀᴅɪʏᴀ LOL. I try to buy 2 books if they're hard covers because they're so expensive but my dad always ends up buying me like 5-10. =D

message 48: by Layla (new)

Layla | 1 comments Yeah. I usually read at night but I've been going to bed so late I'm falling asleep after a couple pages. :(

I wish my parents did that, that way my wallet wouldn't always be empty x)

message 50: by Amalia (new)

Amalia It happens to me a lot especially (like everyone else) because of school + extra-curricular activities taking up too much of my time. That's why I use my school break or the holidays to read as much books as I can.

During my busy days where I simply couldn't fit reading in my day schedule, I try to fit it before I go to bed. It helps. ;)
