DiAnne Warfield Very excited.

Cat of Perdition I don't think they'll be able to catch the noise quite right though, not without annoying us all anyway...

Erika They won't be able to do a good job like in the book. In the book, you have Todd POV and you are constantly reading his thoughts while he explains everything, and how he feels. That's something that made me love this book so much.. They cannot catch that in films.

Nataly Whaaaaaa??? Well, I loved the book and a movie would be exciting to watch, but I agree with you guys, it will be hard for them to get the noise right, and they better not mess up the cast!!! I love Todd and Viola and I hope they get unknown actors to play them, I need brilliancy!! Aww, I remember when reading the book I kept thinking that if they ever made a movie, I would do anything to get cast as Viola, I think I make a pretty awesome Viola, I hope they cast great actors!! I'm really crossing my fingers with this one, they cannot ruin it, the books were amazing:)

If someone like Josh Hutcherson ends up as Todd, I am going to scream. I agree with Nataly: we need unknowns. The film industry keeps using those famous "child" actors, even if they're too old or too bad at acting or just don't look right for the part. I'm getting rather tired of it.

If they have someone famous as Aaron or Mayor Prentiss, I probably won't get too upset. And as for Manchee, I always imagined him as a small redbone coonhound or something of that sort. That might not be accurate. *shrugs*

Erin Underwood AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! cannot contain excitement

Toria wee need a wimpy kid that is unknowen

Rossie I was so excited when I found out but I don't know what the characters are supposed to look like. Is there any description that I might've missed? All I know is that Viola is not blonde.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I gathered that Viola has black hair, but I think Patrick Ness might have just said "dark", so that doesn't have to be true. And he didn't describe much about Todd, either. I'm not sure if he just wanted to leave those characters open to the imagination or what.

Toria me too I thoughts she had black hair and pale skin

Patrick i don't know about this.... I love the first two (haven't read the third but will soon!!!) I'm excited that they're going to be made into movies, but it seems like almost every single book I read is being made into a movie!!!! The hunger games, twilight, the mortal instruments, marley and me, the golden compass, percy jackson and the olympians, holes, beastly, divergent, just to name a few!!!! I think it's great that all of these books have received enough praise and interest to be made into a movie, but does every book need to be made into a movie or TV series???

Megan I'm another one who really can't see how the noise could be translated to screen. And I always pictured Manchee as a Labrador. It's kinda cool that we all had a different breed in mind for him.

Erika Manchee is a white golden retriever in my mind <3

Phil Hume-Hopper Ha, I visually Manchee as a small white terrier...

DiAnne Warfield You may already know this, but I thought I'd mention both Viola Eade and Todd Effing Hewitt are on Facebook...

message 18: by F (new) - rated it 5 stars

F Ahh! Super excited. I agree with you guys though, I don't think they'll be able to capture the noise or have the same connection with Todd.

I really hope they do a good job on this. These are probably my favourite books after Harry Potter.

Personally, I imagine Viola with black hair, violet eyes (weird, I know. But at the time I was reading this series, I was super obsessed with the Sims 3 and the violet eyes they have there just seem to suit her so well) and on the shorter side of average. I imagine Todd with brown hair, brown eyes and tall-ish.

I never really pictured Manchee in my mind, which is odd... but if I had to describe him I suppose he'd be a brown German sheppard.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I never seem to get very clear visions of characters in my mind, but I imagined Viola about the same way as Fiona--except with blue eyes.

Todd... I imagined kind of reddish-brown hair and brown eyes, not much taller than Viola (at the start), and gangly limbs.

Patrick Maxy wrote: "I never seem to get very clear visions of characters in my mind, but I imagined Viola about the same way as Fiona--except with blue eyes.

HAH!!! that's funny i imagined almost the complete opposite for Todd. Short and stalky!!! :)

Erika It's really interesting how the author never really describes any of the characters and leaves them all to our pure imagination!!, that's why we always picture them different..

I'm guessing that'll be a problem in a movie, because some people will be upset seeing who they pick in the cast and which dog they choose as Manchee, as it will never match the ones in our mind.

Zaheen aghhhhhhhhhh!!!! there's going to be a movie??? omg cant wait!!! i was already buzzing about the hunger games movie and now this omg omg omg!!!!!

Laman Zubair OMGGGGGGGGG!!!!A MOVIE IS GOING TO BE MADE???? LOVE THE BOOK BUT THE MOVIES WON'T BE AS GOOD LET'S HOPE IT'S GOOD ENOUGH (fingers crossed) PATRICK NESS YOU ARE AMAZINGGG!!! THANK YOU LIONSGATE!!!

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

There have been some rare occasions where I like the film better than the novel, but I usually agree with you, Jessie.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm obsessed with the book its truly amazing and I love Todd he's adorable; and I'll die of excitement if they make this a movie. Only, I'm worried they'll get the Noise all wrong and make it too noisy or something, or annyoing and confusing for people who have't read the book (read it people) and I'm worried they'll get the ages wrong. Todd is twelve going on thirteen, I don't want to see a teenager playing him. Otherwise I'm excited as (: !!

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, in our time, Todd would actually be thirteen. The years where he lives last thirteen months. That gives him an additional year.

Honestly, I'd rather a (young) teenager play him. I always have a hard time believing the ages in books, and for a boy of twelve/thirteen to go on a journey like this seems... I don't know.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Fourteen*, and yeah i agree maybe he could be played by a young teenager, but i jus am not wanting a fourteen year old who looks fifteen or sixteen playing him, you know? but I'm sure the casting people would make sure they'd get someone who looks Todd's age.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Very exited!
I think and hope that it's going to be good, but you never know :S

It would be incredible for me to play Viola but it won't happen... it never does!

:)

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes... :)

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

If they had a spot for voice acting, I would love to try out, but I don't like the idea of being on the big screen all that much. I just enjoy local stuff and keeping my anonymity.

Brian Erika wrote: "They won't be able to do a good job like in the book. In the book, you have Todd POV and you are constantly reading his thoughts while he explains everything, and how he feels. That's something th..."

I agree, most likely this is going to be a massive failure. I just cant see them getting the noise right and without Todd explaining things it wont be the same.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes I would defiantly love to act Voila, but, um . . . in my dreams :'(
I love acting so much it'd just be amazing (;

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait . . . so, is there gonna DEFINATLY be a movie???!! i hope so (ish) but do we know for sure or??

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

It is pretty sure that it´s gonna be a movie...
i think :)

Erika it's still a project, there's nothing sure yet.

Jessy OMG, I always thought this series would be a great movie and to know its finally gonna happen is awesome!! I cant wait to see Todd start out as a kid and grow into a man in Monsters of Men, hopefully they make movies of all the books!! Yay! Cant wait!

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Well I hope so! Because it's my fave book! (along with the hunger games)

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Ruby! Thanks for that info! Means a lot xxx

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

How did people imagain Todd? I imagained him shortist and pretty thin, not too strong but strong enough, big blue green eyes and blond hair that covers his ears, and a bit messy. And I don't know why I imagianed him that way, but when I think of Todd a boy like that comes into my mind :/ I don't think anyone will imagain him that way like me, tho??

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

I did actually imagine him somewhat like that only with brown hair...

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, i know exactly what you mean. but i try and add eyes so i can TRY and imagain :D - that sound weird?

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Nope... not really cuz that's what I try 2 do 2 :)

message 43: by Aiman (last edited Feb 04, 2012 11:51AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aiman i'd luv to watch the movie but i know they're going to mess up the Noise

Colby :D Movies are almost never as good as the book. I don't think that that should ruin the book, though.

Inday funny how I imagine Anna Sophia Robb of Bridge to Terabithia as Viola.

Courtney As much as I would love to see this made into a movie, I just don't think that they would be able to do the book justice. There are so many things that they could get wrong; the Noise, the Spackle, the depth of the characters, that I think they should just leave it as the amazing book that it is. All that being said, I would still go see the movie anyway.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

So true aye...

message 48: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin Is there really a movie? And when is it supposed to be realeased?

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

(MASSIVE SPOILER TO PEOPLE YOU HAVENT READ MONSTERS OF MEN SO IF YOU HAVENT DONT READ THIS) - ok.. so. I had to tell someone and i cant tell my bestfriend cuz she hasnt read Monsters Of Men, so im telling people on this site, but ive just finished the part where Ben and Todd meet after Ben's been with the Spackle and and its soooooooo happy and i cried when they hugged, and, i think Todd's getting stupid how he's almost, ALMOST trusting the Mayor, and I hope Ben's gonna straighten him out!!And I comment a lot I know and for people who get really annoyed, sorry! But I just had to get this out!! (;
