I don't know why it was added as a separate book. I tried to add it from the "add a new editions" link... the same happened with the other book http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10... and http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

When you "add a new edition" it doesn't automatically combine. You need to request a librarian to combine it for you (or you can do it manually yourself).

In order to combine, though, the primary author (first listed author) must be the same. For the Bulgarian books you listed I added the author name in English and then made the English name the primary author. The Bulgarian translated name is listed second.

I noticed that the author of Brisbane is listed as both Matthew Condon and Matt Condon. Looks like he writes under both names, so can he be combined, I'm not sure how to do this.

Actually, it looks like the Brisbane listing is an error, and Matt Condon (golfer) is someone different.

Are you sure they're different? I think they may be the same author. The National Library of Australia has them listed as the same author. http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Search/Ho...

I did check that and I'm convinced he is the writer of all the books under these two names. The author info on the Amazon listing of the golfing book mentions books by Matthew Condon.

There are 5 supposed editions of the novel, Waiting On Hope. They are all ebook and one is a paperback so I think they can all be combined (2 don't even have covers), correct? Here are all of the links:

Hi, I'm a new librarian. I wanted to avoid getting too much involved, but I already see it won't be easy ;-). I keep seeing things I'd like to fix, especially for authors/books I love.

Anyway I saw how to combine books, and I did combine two foreign translations with the original from the ''combine page''. Then I checked: it worked, but the books I had combined were not listed anymore among the author's books. So I separated them again.

The normal thing is that if you click on the author you get a list of original works *and* translations.

The books I'm talking about are the French and English translation of Boris Pahor's most famous book ''Nekropola'', a haunting record of his time in a concentration camp:
Pèlerin parmi les ombres
and
Pilgrim Among the Shadows/a Memoir

Probably they were not identified as the same book because the title is slightly different in French and in English.

Can someone fix this *without the books desappearing from the general list of Pahor's books*? Or explain to me how to fix it properly?

ETA: In fact I'd prefer an explanation...

Combining the books will remove them from the list, but it's the correct way to combine translations.

When a bunch of edition are combined into a work, only the most popular edition is shown on the author's page, to keep things uncluttered.

ETA: If there is an author who is showing both original and translated editions on the main page, they should be properly combined.

Then there is even more work to do on GR than I saw at first, because several authors show original works *and* translations.

That's why I thought I was ''depriving'' Pahor of something if the translations were not visible anymore after my combining them!
