Challenge: 50 Books discussion

I'm curious as to how you use Goodreads? Not looking for instructions per se here, but what features interest you, where do you spend your time here?

It's been fun tracking my books, and I always enjoy the reading challenge, but I gotta say, the trivia game is a real time sucker for me.

I hate the fact that bookswap will not be continued I spent most of my time there but now I love the recommendations tool.

I love the that I can keep track of my books and when I go into a second hand book shop I now know what book I need to finish a series (I won't start to read a older series until I have all the books - I've been burnt in the past when I had to hunt down the hard to find one - grrr).

Love the recommendations - I have been known to judge a book by its cover in the past - Robin Hobb - sad that I didn't read her earlier, but now I love all that I've read by her.

i like the discussion threads on some of the groups. they've been entertaining and educational. i also enjoy seeing what other people are reading and reading their reviews. i have found one person in particular who writes great reviews and he has swayed me to read books that i wouldn't normally have tried.

Keeping track of what I read is fantastic! I have a few "favorites" listed that I read whoknowswhen but generally I log what I read and look for book recommendations from others.

I have to agree with Naomi. I would likely be less than a fan if it was only about having a place to keep track of the books I've read/want to read. But the discussion groups are the real reason I'm here. I'm a fan of Scandinavian crime fiction/'Nordic Noir' but none of my friends are into it. On GR I've been able to discuss the books with people who's passion equals or exceeds mine, and even become acquainted with some of the authors. I've had discussions with people around the world,too, which is something that would never happen otherwise. From Finland to Amsterdam to London and all over the US...it's been amazing.

I would have to say that I love meeting new people albeit online, but the feature I find most intriguing is when you check a person's profile and you click on 'compare books' which is located under their profile blurb - this feature shows you which books you both had read or TBR shelf and how each of you rated them. Plus, books that are not on my own shelf, as a result I have found some interesting books I would not normally would have been exposed to.

Another feature is the Updates email I get from my GR friends to see what they are all reading/listening to.

My favorite part of this site is keeping track of the books I've read, and the Reading Challenge. I like to read the discussions, but I'm shy and rarely have anything to say myself, so it's not as big a part of the experience for me.

I use it primarily for keeping track of my books and to see what my friends are reading. I really like this reading challenge.

I agree, mostly because of my lack of computer skills.I am hoping to list my top 10 books for 2012 tomorrow.
