However, I would appreciate a second opinion before I proceed, especially on the non-US imprints. Thanks.

I agree that they should be combined, and think the second one on your list makes the most sense as the one to combine into.

Well, the first on the list is the most popular by far, having 695 books, compared to only 50 for the second. (The rest have less than 20, and in most cases only 1 or 2).

I'm afraid that if I change it to the second one, then we'll be spending a good bit effort to change over any new books that are added.

I'd move the regional and the "children's books" information into the publisher field, but otherwise, I agree. I'd merge them into whichever has the most records already, though -- looks like "Reader's Digest Editors" -- on the theory that that'll pick up more of the new incoming records from places like Amazon.... (Hah, posted just as you were bringing up my second point, vicki!)
