C. C. (cjoybellc) | 19 comments hahahahahahha! @Ken "Thank you Vicky, Santa would be proud" made me laugh! Funny! : D Well I just realized that it's exactly a month to Christmas! :-)

Of course, I would be happy to receive a new book review (as every author would be), please take a look at my book (yes, it is available as ink and paper) Saint Paul Trois Châteaux: 1948 and see first, if it is compatible with you as a reviewer. Classified as a Classical Fiction Novella, it has been described by others as offering the feeling of a true story being relayed, rather than a book that was written by imagination. It's also been described, among other things, as being palpable, provocative, an escape, a trance... some say that it has deep meaning which is touching and special while there are others who say that it is emotionally charged and emotionally compelling, a feast for the senses. I am always happy to hear from others, about their experiences with my novella. I wrote this book so I could tell of a story, one that I felt with every bone in me, should be told. And that's the reason why I wrote it. It's not a mainstream book, but it's more character-driven and thoughtful. In libraries, it is filed under "classics" although it was just published this year, so if you enjoy classic literature, renaissance humanism and romanticism but spoken with a defiant modern voice, then you will enjoy this novella. But if you are more mainstream and blockbuster, I doubt that you would be able to appreciate.

Thank you for the opportunity and for your time.

Was tempted. Succumbed. If it's up your street, I'd be happy to forward a copy in any format you wish.

Title "Head Count"
Author Russell Cruse
Genre Mystery/Thriller

It was never going to be easy taking twenty teenagers skiing in the Alps but it wasn’t half so difficult as returning with only nineteen.

When fifteen- year-old Carly Elliot parts company with an Alp, David Benedict, the teacher in charge of the ski-party is suspended from his job pending charges of negligence and possibly even manslaughter. His only ally is journalist Rebecca Daley and even she’s trying to connect him to two teenage suicides. Polizeikommissar Kurz thinks David may be a murderer, D.S. Sands thinks he’s an idiot and the others down the nick reckon he’s a paedophile but it won’t be until he finds himself tied to a chair in a run-down church, an automatic pistol in his face and trying desperately, through broken teeth, to speak German with a Swiss accent that he’ll begin to suspect he may be in over his head. Could things get any worse? Of course they can; this is David Benedict we’re talking about.

Daley wants a story, Benedict wants his old life back; if either gets what they want, the other will be seriously disappointed. In the event, each of them is going to get a bloody sight more than they bargained for.

‘Ah well; another day, another death. Welcome to St. Wilf’s.’

Hello Vicky! I visited your blog, and I must say, I am ecstatic over your header! Alice in Wonderland! LOVE it! I just adore them all at the tea party table like that! Are those in particular your favorite characters in the movie? And you're from Hungary? : ) I have a friend in Budapest! : ) I would be thankful if you add me to the list, but I am a little frightened of the "you may request more than one copies at a time" part... hehehehhhe... shipping costs money... oh dear.. Can I specify that I can't send out more than one copy per person? Oh I earn pennies as royalty, and sending my book out, multiple copies, would be taking from my personal savings already. : ( And seriously, I don't make any money from being a writer..

Aww thank you so much :) They're not my favourite characters in particular, I just thought it would suit my blog, haha!

Really? :O How exciting! Have you been to Hungary before?

Oh, the "you may request more than one copies at a time" part means that bloggers can request from more than one authors at a time. ^^ Even if they're interested in your (or the other authors') book, they'll only request 1 copy per person ;-) And if your book is available in ebook format, you're more than welcome to send them one, it's not restricted to print copies only.

Thanks everyone, I'll list all your books tonight! xx

OH. hahahahahhha guess I misunderstood that! :D Embarrassing... hehehehhe... well I haven't been to Hungary yet, but my close friend is very close friends with someone in Budapest, who became my close friend as well, you know how friendship is these days, we can all meet on FaceBook! :D So she's my friend now, as well! Do you live in Budapest? She says that Budapest is the Paris of the East! How wonderful! I would love to visit one day soon!

My book is available to Kindle as well as paperback, but I'm not so sure if I can send a Kindle copy to a reader's Kindle reader? Is that possible? This is the only other format my book is available in, aside from paperback. : ) Oh things are sometimes too complicated...

Well I guess I will just have to send out a paperback copy! I will be crossing my fingers! hahha! I sort of hope no one picks out my book to be reviewed! hahahhha! I am crazy today, please forgive me! Maybe it was all that honey I put into my green tea!

Hahahaha, no worries. :) Okay... I listed your book on the review requests page and here's what we can do. (and it applies to everyone else as well) If you don't want more people to send you review request because.. you ran out of review copies or for any other reason, just let me know and I'll remove your book from the list. :) As simple as that. Don't worry if you only have one or two copies to give away - once you have the one or two reviewers you were looking for, let me know and I'll take you off the list. :)

Thank you so much Vicky! : ) Well, what I will be doing, since I don't live in the US where most reviewers live, and also to cut the cost of shipping, I will be ordering my own book and mailing it directly to the reviewer (won't go through me anymore) so the reviewer will actually receive it as sort of a gift shipped directly from the company.

Thank you.

Well, idk, I don't like Paris very much. It's beautiful, but it's really not as magnificent as people say it is. I like Rome far better! I have heard beautiful things about Budapest, we'll see, perhaps one day... : )

Pearce Hansen | 5 comments Hello all,

I'm looking for reviewers for my new Kindle novel Stagger Bay.

Markus, Stagger Bay’s protagonist, is a man who overcame a horrendous childhood and criminal youth to go straight and raise a family. His violent past makes him an easy fall guy to frame for a gruesome mass murder and he’s sentenced to life without parole, losing his family in the process.

Exonerated and freed on DNA evidence after seven years, Markus is shortly thrust into a bloody do-or-die fracas during an elementary school hostage situation, becoming an overnight hero. Everyone wants in on the media feeding frenzy; to his dismay, paparazzi and news crews hound him wherever he goes. Unfortunately they’re not the only ones stalking him.

Can Markus find the path back into his estranged son’s heart? What’s Markus supposed to do, when he discovers fifteen minutes of fame is the worst thing that could ever happen to him? What can he do, now that his town is hunting ground to serial killers and rogue cops working together – and the shadowy force behind them is turning its cold, deadly eye straight at him?

Stagger Bay is a battle of wills, where every moral choice seems only to increase the body count. It’s in the tradition of Paul Cain’s break-neck-paced Fast One, or Geoffrey Household’s feral man-against-the-world Rogue Male. Stagger Bay should appeal to readers looking for a fast paced, hyper-violent thriller.

Ken Bruen (author of Blitz starring Jason Statham; and of London Boulevard, soon to be a major motion picture): “Stagger Bay proves what noir purists have known for a long time: Pearce Hansen is the new Prince of Noir. For years he’s been turning out stunning nuggets of sheer black gold, and now he finally comes into his ascendancy with this mesmerizing novel.

“Imagine James Ellroy coupled with George R. R. Martin and overseen by Charles Willeford. But PH really needs no comparison to any other writer; he’s created his own compelling dark universe that ratchets up noir to an astonishing level.”

Jason Starr (bestselling author of The Pack and The Follower): "Pearce Hansen is the real deal, the Edward Bunker of our generation. Stagger Bay is a searing, powerful, heartbreaking novel, and an important contribution to contemporary crime fiction literature."

Anthony Neil Smith (Editor of Plots with Guns!, Associate Editor of the Mississippi Review, and author of All the Young Warriors): "Pearce is a wild man, and demands your attention. Hansen is definitely one of the gonzo crowd and deserves a stage with a loud amplifier and some bright lights."

Author Pearce Hansen grew up on the crazy streets of the East Bay. Inspired by the roller coaster experiences of a misspent youth, he’s been writing for 16 years with over 80 publications, and three Kindle books currently available at Amazon. His first novel Street Raised was blurbed by Joe Lansdale, Eddie Muller and Laird Barron, and received a favorable review in the SF Chronicle.

message 76: by Morgan (new)

Morgan Nyberg Hi Vicky. Thanks for this opportunity. I have 4 Kindle books (all 4 will be free Sunday Jan. 29 to Kindle owners).
Title 1: Since Tomorrow
Author: Morgan Nyberg
Genre: Literary post-apocalypse thriller
Synopsis: "Since Tomorrow" is a novel of a world in the remaking. The combined effects of climate change, economic collapse, a world-wide pandemic and a devastating earthquake have transformed Vancouver. The population has been decimated; most trees and houses have been burned for fuel; food is self-grown or acquired by barter; there is no modern technology, no law, education, medicine or government; privation is universal.
An old man called Frost remembers the "good times". Those who live on his "farm" among collapsed warehouses and the foundations of vanished houses at the edge of the city struggle to maintain human values. But when others in this makeshift world are driven only by greed and the need for power, all values must ultimately be replaced by the simple instinct for survival.
"Since Tomorrow" is written in clear, sensuous language. It will appeal equally to those readers with a literary taste and those looking for an absorbing story with plenty of conflict leading to an inevitable violent confrontation.

Title 2: Mr. Millennium
Author: Morgan Nyberg
Genre: Literary
Synopsis: Gabor Esterhazy is Mr. MILLENNIUM, a bright, young but troubled manual laborer who is taken under the very shady wing of a secret society. Their claim: that he is descended from Jesus Christ. Surely the resulting fame, power, money and adulation will bring him the peace he needs? Or will he find, too late, that he is merely a puppet, placed on a false throne to satisfy the insidious aims of those who claim to care for him?
Follow Gabor Esterhazy as he goes determinedly off the rails, and his journey toward happiness becomes a dark and comic shambles of lust, deceit and mortal danger.

Title 3: Bad Day in Gladland
Author: Morgan Nyberg
Genre: Young Adult
Synopsis: Bad Day in Gladland is a funny and whimsical story of "magic realism" for both children and adults.
The story takes place in a time of strange “plagues”. The city where the Bugg family resides completely disappears, consumed in a Plague of Daytime Darkness. The family’s old butler, Bentley, and the 2 children, acrobatic Athena and brainy Odysseus, along with Odysseus’ pet rat, Defoe, narrowly escape. They travel from town to town, hoping to find the children’s parents. To earn money they put on shows featuring the acrobatic skills of Athena.
Bentley keeps a journal as they travel, relating one particular adventure: the making of the film Bad Day in Gladland by Prodigious Productions. At Prodigious Productions they learn of other plagues, such as the Plague of Getting Lost, the Plague of Anti-Gravity and the Plague of Flying Fish. Events turn dangerous when the greedy director of the film company and his scheming assistant become convinced that one of the actors knows a recipe for creating gold.
It is up to Bentley, Odysseus, Athena and Defoe to save the day.

Title 4: Galahad Schwartz and the Cockroach Army
Author: Morgan Nyberg
Genre: Young Adult
Synopsis: "In this warm and graceful story, the author achieves an artful blend of the mythological and the earthly." (From the citation for the Governor General's Literary Awards (Canada))
Young Galahad was raised in the South American jungle. But when his parents disappear he goes to live with his grandfather in a North American slum, where he encounters both evil and magic. It is up to Galahad to save the city.
The style of the book has been described as magic realism for children.

Rachel Abbott (rachel_abbott) | 68 comments Hi Vicky

A great blog, and I will certainly look through the list of titles, as I review books as well as write them. I am happy to review on Kindle as well as paperback.

I would love to find some more reviewers for my own novel, Only the Innocent and here are the details -

Title: Only the Innocent
Author: Rachel Abbott
Genre: Thriller
Synopsis:

A man is dead. The killer is a woman. But what secrets lie beneath the surface - so dark that a man has to die?

Women are rarely cold blooded killers. But when famous philanthropist Hugo Fletcher is found dead, there is no doubt in anybody’s mind that the killer is a woman. And it is clear from the precision of the planning that this was no crime of passion. It was an execution.

The victim was revered the world over for his charitable work with trafficked Eastern European prostitutes, and as at least one of these girls is missing, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is certain that there has to be a connection.

But nothing is as it appears on the surface. A web of complex relationships is gradually revealed and it seems that everybody has something to hide. As each horrific secret is exposed, Tom Douglas begins to realise that this is much more than a simple murder case. And he has a terrible dilemma to face - whether to punish the guilty, or protect the innocent.

Only the Innocent by Rachel Abbott

Only the Innocent is currently on offer until the end of January for $0.99 on Amazon - but I will happily send a free version to anybody interested in reviewing it (mobi or epub versions).

I have also sent a formal review request to your email account.

Great idea Vicky, and I'm happy to help out with a couple of reviews for some of the other authors on your site. I've also put a link to your RSS feed on my Twitter app, so any new post will be tweeted.

You might want to see the sort of reviews I write before deciding? I never give poor reviews - I just don't review things that I don't think are up to it, but I do explain to the author why I think that.
Anyway, you should be able to find my reviews by clicking on my name. Under that, it lists my reviews.

Good luck with the book in any case.

Christos Tsotsos | 7 comments Hi Vicky

Title: The secret of the elements
Author: Christos Tsotsos
Genre: General/Humorous fiction

Synopsis:

A bipolar scientist tells the story of his best friend, an atheist avant-garde composer, who has to negotiate with the devil on his grandmother’s soul sale. The 99-year-old woman managed to do the unthinkable and tricked the devil when she sold him her soul. In order for the transaction to be completed, the devil has to negotiate with the keeper of that soul, her grandson Bartholomew (Barto) Marshal. By doing so the young composer gains access to the secret of the elements. His mind ages one million years and through music and mathematics he envisions the evolution of humanity. During the revelation of the secret, our hero bends time and space, travels through parallel universes and discovers a new method of communication. He is, however, the catalyst in a rather comic-tragic war of religious corporations, fighting to maximize their resources and market share by attempting to put each other out of business. Will satan rule the cosmos? Will humanity achieve technological and biological immortality? Is god physically threatened?

Let me know if anyone is interested.

To Breathe the Breath of Isis by Elizabeth Marx

To breathe the breath of Isis is to be reborn.

Words whispered in Marguerite’s ear on her thirteenth birthday, as her father wraps her fingers around the nefret. But the Egyptian necklace piece, easily concealed in the palm of her hand, bears a curse for any who wear it, and an undeniable allure for all those who come in contact with it.

Years later, Marguerite is a victim of a vicious attack. The resulting brain damage causes amnesia and the photographer’s memories are mere snapshots: a little girl with a piece of hammered silver jewelry, an angry man with a disdainful sneer, a sand-swept swashbuckler who takes her breath away, fire and blood melded together, and the wings of Isis carrying her away.

When Marguerite inexplicably appears in a tomb in Thebes, she insists she was coming to meet Robert. Disorientated, destitute, and alone, she senses the necklace has led her to a time and place of its choosing.

Lord Robert Bruton, eminent Egyptologist, and possible King’s spy, has staked his career on finding the final resting place of an eighteenth dynasty queen. But Lord Bruton has never discovered anything as alluring as the young woman he recovers unconscious on his firham. He wonders why the mesmerizing Miss Marguerite possesses a piece of jewelry belonging to Queen Tiye. Is she a tomb robber? An American spy? Or just a madwoman spouting fantastical stories about aeroplanes traversing the Atlantic.

Or is she the treasure he has been seeking his entire life?

Michael (demzer) | 7 comments Hello all!

I'm throwing my hat in the ring. Please review my science fiction crime thriller, NECROPOLIS, published by Night Shade Books. Even non-sci fi affectionados seem to be responding to it. I would welcome more feedback.

description

Here's the blurb, then links below:

In a future where death is a thing of the past, how far would you go to solve your own murder?

Paul Donner is a NYPD detective struggling with a drinking problem and a marriage on the rocks. Then he and his wife get dead--shot to death in a "random" crime. Fifty years later, Donner is back--revived courtesy of the Shift, a process whereby inanimate DNA is re-activated.

This new "reborn" underclass is not only alive again, they're growing younger, destined for a second childhood. The freakish side-effect of a retroviral attack on New York, the Shift has turned the world upside down. Beneath the protective geodesic Blister, clocks run backwards, technology is hidden behind a noir facade, and you can see Elvis and Radio City Music Hall ever night. In this unfamiliar retro-futurist world of maglev Studebakers and plasma tommy guns, Donner must search for those responsible for the destruction of his life. His quest for retribution, aided by Maggie, his holographic Girl Friday, leads him to the heart of the mystery surrounding the Shift's origin and up against those who would use it to control a terrified nation.

Diane Castle (dianecastle) | 67 comments Awesome idea! I would love to trade reviews with other thriller writers. If you have a thriller (any subgenre), email me at diane [at] blackoilredblood.com.

My book is called Black Oil, Red Blood. Here's what it's about:

Black Oil, Red Blood is a legal thriller starring Chloe Taylor, a wrongful death attorney who falls into the clutches of Big Oil. Here’s the book summary:

The thing about cancer is it’s hard to prove somebody gave it to you on purpose—but Chloe Taylor can prove it. In fact, she proves it for a living. She sues oil refineries that would rather save a buck than comply with safety regulations designed to do important things like, you know, keep people alive.

Chloe had a successful career until circumstances forced her to move to the bass-ackwards town of Kettle, Texas (human population: 4,000; gun population: 34,356). Big Oil industry giant PetroPlex employs half of Kettle’s population, and there’s no question the judge in the town’s got oil stains on his hands. It’s no wonder she’s been on a losing streak lately. She suspects she’s been litigating on an uneven playing field, but when her star expert witness turns up dead less than 48 hours before a make-or break hearing, she knows.

What she doesn’t know is the key piece of information that got her expert killed. It turns out PetroPlex is harboring a shocking secret—one that has the potential to skyrocket gasoline prices, spark an energy market meltdown, and trigger riots, chaos, death, and destruction on a global scale. Chloe must discover the secret and expose the villains before she is permanently silenced, all while juggling a troublesome ex-fiancé and a tantalizing new flame along the way.

I'm after reviewers for my Science Fiction Novella, 'We Of The Universe,' which is about 30,000 words.

Here is the blurb:
aptain Haslow is one of the many people who have fled into deep space to escape the Versal expansion. He has found his niche: training up terrorists to send into Versal territory to cause havoc. However, the Versals are no longer satisfied and, despite the codes forbidding it, have started to move into deep space. They offer him an ultimatum: join them or die. But how could he join the people responsible for his sister's death?

Haslow's only hope is to venture into the mysterious 'Grey', a part of space that is shrouded in myth and legend.

Legeve is a Versal who has spent most of her time in a small room, living her life in virtual reality. After she undergoes 'The Dance of The Suns' she will never see existence in the same way again.

Marta is a new recruit aboard Captain Haslow's ship. She is one of the many lust born forced to flee when the Versals expanded to take over the outer planets. She is not used to ship life and has no idea about what is in store. What will she become?
