Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 549 comments I'm a medium reader. Haha. I average a book a day lately, but usually it's a book ever 1-3 days.

message 102: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela It depends on the book, some books are easy reads and I am able to scan quickly and I go through those in a matter of hours. I read mostly before bed or if all the housework & homework is done, my boys and I all relax with books and let each other read. I am blessed that all my boys are readers, we share ideas & books. It makes for interesting conversation other than "How was your day?"

Sometimes books are a little harder to get into or they require more attention and of course there is always the husband and the kids that want one thing or another so it may take me days to weeks.

message 103: by Jennifer C. (new)

Jennifer C. | 50 comments I average about 100 - 150 pages a day. So it's usually one book every 2 - 3 days. I don't skim though. I feel like I'll miss something important if I do. Maybe if I was a skimmer, I could read Stephen King. I hate that he takes 5 pages to describe something so simple.

message 104: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Pringle | 120 comments I would say middle-of-the-road.
I am a slow reader cause I want to enjoy the book. If it is a book I like then I usually finish a 200 + book between 1-7 days. Depending on how involved in the book I am and How well behaved the kids are (I am a stay-at-home-mom :)

message 105: by [deleted user] (new)

Very fast, but I read in depth, and retain what I've read. I'm really lucky that way, because I'm completing a Master's program while working, and I'd be dead if I didn't process fast. Recently read The Ballad of Young Tam Lin by Patricia A. Leslie in about a week. Loved it.

Yasmeen | 15 comments Tt wrote: "LOL wow you guys are Awesome !! My record would be one book per day and that's on rare occasions and the book has to be really interesting for my to get to that point. I' am not ashamed to say I'm ..."

i'm pretty much like you, though i'm trying to become faster, a voice in my head keeps saying 'so many books, so little time' :D

message 107: by [deleted user] (new)

RE Jasmine and Yasmeen, we will never experience all there is (unless you believe in reincarnation - See The Ballad of Young Tam Lin for more on that), so why do we feel we are in a race? There's a lot of delicious food out there, but we don't meet that challenge by just cramming in as much as possible (well, I don't - some people ???), so why stress about how much pleasure we can get. If we are happy, we are blessed.

message 108: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) I guess I'm a slow reader. I read fast, but not that often. Last year I read about 60 books, so far I've read 8 books this year :) So 1 or 2 a week.

message 109: by Yasmeen (new)

Yasmeen | 15 comments Karl wrote: "RE Jasmine and Yasmeen, we will never experience all there is (unless you believe in reincarnation - See The Ballad of Young Tam Lin for more on that), so why do we feel we are in a race? There'..."

you're right, i'll never let my habit of digesting the books i read suffer in order to 'try and finish the race' :) and thanks i'll check out The Ballad of Young Tam Lin as soon as i can.

message 110: by Laura (new)

Laura Thomas (laurathomas) | 562 comments I guess i would call myself a medium reader. I'm slow during the week because after work have a lot to do. Can barely keep my eyes open when I go to bed. Come Saturday morning, I hunker down in den with book and coffee and don't stop until I;m finished with the book. When the weather is bad I can get 2 or more read!

message 111: by Sandee is Reading (new)

Sandee is Reading (sandeeisreading) I guess sometimes I'm fast, sometimes I'm slow.
My work schedule gets in the way of my reading.
If I got loads of time I could read 1 book a day.

message 112: by Alycia (new)

Alycia Linwood (alycia_linwood) I'm usually a fast reader, that is, if I have time and if the book is interesting enough. Sometimes it doesn't even matter if the book is longer because if I love it, I can read it in a day. :)

message 113: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) Thomas wrote: "Probably takes me 3-7 days depending on length of the novel."

That's about where I'm at. It also depends on the *kind* of novel. I tend to read UF faster because it doesn't seem to require as much slogging through as some other kinds of books. I made a commitment to read at least an hour a day, and that has help improve things. So far this year, I've finished 7 books (which is cheating a little since I started 11/22/63 in 2011, and finished it early in 2012)!

message 114: by Kent (new)

Kent I guess, after reading some of the other posts, I'm a slow reader. It usually takes me about 2 weeks to finish a 300pg or so books. I do have to admit though that since I got my Nook for Christmas I have been reading a little faster. Maybe it is just that I can make the font bigger and I just need better glasses? :)

message 115: by Wei (new)

Wei Cho (lunexian) When I'm really into the book, I can finish it in one day. For instance, I've finish a 350 page book in 8 hours. That is if I don't have school or chores. Usually, I'm a fast reader. If the book is really slow and I'm not motivated enough to read, I can take anything from a week to a month :/

message 116: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) I've been speeding through books, but now I'm reading Shades of Grey (Shades of Grey, #1) by Jasper Fforde which is wonderful, but really complex. I've had to really slow down to catch everything.

message 117: by Lynxie (last edited Feb 03, 2012 09:06PM) (new)

Lynxie | 13 comments I've been known to read a book and a half in one day, but it depends on the book. Some books are just easier to read than others, but the thickness and the complexity of the book are the key factors.

If I enjoy it, it makes it easier to read... but that's not the be all and end all.

Average time for me to read a book would probably be approx 2-3 days each (100 books last year - goal for 110 this yr).

I have been told I read fast, but I've never done speed reading classes or anything. I don't scan read either, I read each word... so I'm not really sure how it is I read as fast as I do... must just love it :D

message 118: by [deleted user] (new)

It all depends on the book. I have read books in a few hours, in a day, or it has taken me a month. It all depends on how I connect with the characters and the plot twists and turns in the book. I would say overall I am an above average quick reader.

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

I am a fast reader, it comes naturally, I like reading fast because as soon as I finish a book, someone buys me a new one sometimes or I go to the library.

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm a really fast reader. People ask me if i eat the books instead of reading. Sometimes i feel that i read too fast but oh well... Unless I'm reading a classic. It takes me longer. This gets frustrating but I try to focus on the book not how long it takes me to finish it.

message 121: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) I tend to think that I am a slower reader by people always tell me I read too fast. I usually take between 1-4 days depending on school, length of book, interest of book etc.

message 122: by Shealea (new)

Shealea (shutupshealea) I'm a fast reader most of the time. If I don't really connect and/or care for the book, it'll probably take me a few days or a week at most to finish instead of my usual 3 to 6 hours.

message 123: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t Normally a fast reader and a multiple book reader. If I'm struggling thru a book it could take me up to two weeks but that is when i really don't connect.

makes it a challenge to do buddy reads usually.

message 124: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) Shealea Iral wrote: "I'm a fast reader most of the time. If I don't really connect and/or care for the book, it'll probably take me a few days or a week at most to finish instead of my usual 3 to 6 hours."

If I don't connect with a book, I want to get through it as quickly as possible and so I'll skim it. It takes a lot for me not to finish a book.

message 125: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) It really depends on the story.. sometimes I read fast and sometimes it took me time.

message 126: by Jenna (new)

Jenna (jenreifu) If I don't let procrastination get in the way I average a book every 2 to 3 days. Unfortunately, I'm a sucker for procrastination so sometimes it can take up to week or so. Whether or not I let procrastination steal me away usually depends on the story.

message 127: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sophierose1990) I am so slow - usually average around 30-50pages an hour so it can take me days to finish a book. But if I skim read I don't really get into the story nor understand it.

message 128: by Daisy Sloan (new)

Daisy Sloan | 54 comments I'm a fast reader. I read about a book a day. If it's a long book or has a lot of depth to it, it will take me longer to read. It just came naturally to me. I didn't do anything to become a fast reader.

message 129: by Gabriel (new)

Gabriel (BooksRunThroughMyVeins) | 15 comments i'm a bit slow when it comes to reading because i feel like i'm in the scene of the book and i'm internalizing it for it to enter my imagination

message 130: by Tiffani (new)

Tiffani | 88 comments Well, it really depends. I can be a fast reader AND a slow reader. If I'm reading a laborous classic like The Iliad by Homer (which was TERRIBLE... never doing that again :P) then it takes me FOREVER (up to a month) to read. If it is a fun read, I can read it all in one day. It really depends if the writing style is easy to understand and if I like the characters. I don't have a trick for reading fast other than picking books that REALLY appeal to me!

message 131: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 22, 2012 12:21PM) (new)

I think I'm a pretty fast reader. When I was little, I read almost all of the books from my local library lol When I first start reading, I have to read the first page few times to get into the book and then I scan read lol I wish I didn't have a full-time job so I could read all the time

message 132: by Scribble (new)

Scribble De Dibble (scribbledoutname) | 2 comments I'm medium, probably a bit closer to fast than slow. I only skim when I'm getting bored, or when I think something isn't important and I don't want to know more about it xD If I really like something I sometimes reread it over and over again :)

message 133: by Duks (new)

Duks (cnduks_) | 1836 comments I try to take my time, but I just get sucked ini the book, usually finish it in a day or two. However, I've noticed if I take my time, I tend to lose interest in the book.

message 134: by Clare (new)

Clare dooley (claredooley) I guess I read really fast...compared to people I swap books with or follow the same series as. It may be because I can't put it down, the book, till I finish it.I do fly through books but sometimes I will have to reread the end of a book if it ends on a cliff hanger & the next one doesn't come out for a year.

message 135: by Clare (new)

Clare dooley (claredooley) though none of that counts for "A song of Ice & Fire" they are all 1000 pages avg. and all details matter. Each one has taken me about 3 days.

Aisha Oaktree (aishao) Yasmeen wrote: "Tt wrote: "LOL wow you guys are Awesome !! My record would be one book per day and that's on rare occasions and the book has to be really interesting for my to get to that point. I' am not ashamed ..."
our voices must know each other. I ahve a ton of books I want to read and they juct keep taunting me

message 137: by Aisha (new)

Aisha Oaktree (aishao) it depends on the book, if it's awesome I can finish a book in a day, day and a half if it's 300+. if it's a book i can't stand, ill finish it in say 2-3 months,. yes i have been known to stretch a book until i can't renew it anymore. LOl

message 138: by Mika (new)

Mika (starborn) Well, I sometimes go on for 3 days without reading (like how I'm doing right now) but after that, once I find the right book, I can finish it in a day or two.

Tammy ~Witching Hour Reads~ (03tammy-lynn) | 1434 comments It depends, I would like to say I'm a fast reader, but my girlfriend puts me to shame, reading a book a day, whereas I usually average a book or 2, sometimes 3 a week.
So I guess I would say I'm average, not slow but not fast.

message 140: by Storm (new)

Storm (poefinn) | 39 comments depends really, when i read the hunger games, i finished the entire trilogy in two days, i read one book in about 2-3 hours

however, i have some books i have started months ago and still haven't finished, depends on how easy it is to emerse yourself in, so it depends on the book

message 141: by Karen (new)

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 107 comments I read too fast. I gobble books and either miss many of the fine points, or forget much of what I read within weeks, or both. On the bright side, I can reread a book and have almost the same experience I did the first time. . . .

message 142: by [deleted user] (new)

I would say that I read fast. Which is pretty good for me since I barely have time to read anyways. I guess it also depends on how much it interests me. Most books I can finish in one to a couple of days but book that just bore me and I have to finish it takes forever!

message 143: by Mollie! (new)

Mollie! (martygee) I read TOO fast. Like, I can't even help it, so I reread books multiple times so I can enjoy them again. I tore through Game of Thrones and really want to reread all of them, but it's super daunting! Thankfully, since school started, I haven't had as much time to read. Therefore I'm enjoying the luxury of being a slower reader. Anyone who is embarrassed by being a slow reader need not be: You get to savor books a lot longer than I ever will. If I had more self control, I wouldn't have read all of the Iron Fey series in a week and then been left wishing there were more!

message 144: by Danniella (new)

Danniella Duff (danniellathepaganwitch) | 7 comments I am a really fast reader, unless someone is talking and I end up reading the same sentence 5 times until I can understand what the line says

Aisha Oaktree (aishao) Danniella wrote: "I am a really fast reader, unless someone is talking and I end up reading the same sentence 5 times until I can understand what the line says"

I so do the same thing, I can't even have music on, I was when I was younger able to just block it out, as i come from a big family, but not anymore.

message 146: by Riley (new)

Riley Banks (rileybanks) | 48 comments Like others, it depends on the book. If the writer has managed to hook my attention at the end of each chapter, I find it almost impossible to put down and will keep reading until I reach the end (or pass out from exhaustion). I have read many books in one sitting simply because I couldn't put them down.

I can usually sum up a book in the first couple of chapters. If it hasn't hooked me by then or got me intrigued to find out what is happening, I either read it very, very slowly (when I can find time) or lose interest and not finish it at all.

A couple of books have fallen into the latter category. Was reading Taboo recently but it just didn't grab me. Also tried to read Wicked but it was so long and drawn out and laborious to read that I just couldn't be bothered ploughing through.

Pushed myself all the way through the Twilight trilogy but almost didn't finish because I found myself bored to death with Bella's monologues and by the end, found myself hating her whininess. My favourite book of all three was the last simply because I got a break from Bella's head and got to explore Jacob more fully. But then I'm not a huge fan of first person accounts. That being said, I am enjoying The Hunger Games.

I really enjoyed 'Wicked' too, but it took me a long time to finish it. I've read the others in that series, too, and can get bogged down. I like to switch from 'quick reads' to 'slow reads' so that I can get a break.

message 148: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Duder (thomasduder) Meh, I'm middle of the road. Either I'm middlin' or I'm deep into it and I finish a whole book in about an hour. For me, it's like watchin' a movie, the words go straight from the page into my head, y'know?

It's...hard to describe, I guess. XD But there ya have it. I finished up the recent book I was readin' in roughly a day of on-again off-again readin', and that's just 'cuz it was a Feist novel.

I freakin' dig Feist~!

message 149: by Jessica (new)

Jessica McQuay (jessica27) | 26 comments I don't know what I'd classify myself as. It usually takes me a couple of days to read a book. When I am on a roll I will read 2-3 books a week.

message 150: by Paul (new)

Paul (paullev) | 32 comments Fast for nonfiction, nice and slow for fiction.
