MeMe Belikova First lady Ivashkov (alicebelikovreads) | 949 comments Ok i have to admit I'm a bit of a slow reader lol. Not really slow tho but I'm probaly in between the two. What kind of reader are you? Can you read a book in a day on a regular basis or does it take you a few days to read a book? Do you scan read? Just curious! Did you learn how to read fast or does it come naturally? Cuz i wanna learn!

I read fast and tend to scan read, especially through boring parts of books (like where the character is suddenly seeing deep into herself and having an epiphany on the meaning of her existence). My problem is finding time to read. I work full time from home and have kids, so the only time I really get to have me time to read is after everyone else is in bed. I try to read for a couple of hours each night, so I usually can get in two books a week.

MeMe Belikova First lady Ivashkov (alicebelikovreads) | 949 comments I scan read mostly on fighting scenes I find them very boring. I have one kid and I hardly can get time to read! But I usually get in one book a week, the fastest I've read a book was about two or three days.

message 4: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia | 548 comments i can read a book in a day if it really interests me, if it doesn't just completely hold my attention it will take me a few days to read it.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

depends on how good the read is. if it is a good read i would probably finish it fast if it is a poor read then i will finish slow or not finish it at all.

message 6: by Rachel Alice (last edited Nov 24, 2011 10:48AM) (new)

Rachel Alice Books usually last me about 3 days, and rarely more than a week, although it does depend on how thick and/or good the book is. I think my record is 3 books in one day.

Of course, that doesn't count elementary school level books. My grade 4 teacher never believed me when I'd borrow a book, then claim to have finished it the next day.

message 7: by Leigh (new)

Leigh (theleighlo) | 1 comments My record is 3 1/2 books a day, and that still depends on weather the book is enjoyable or not

LOL wow you guys are Awesome !! My record would be one book per day and that's on rare occasions and the book has to be really interesting for my to get to that point. I' am not ashamed to say I'm a bit of a slow reader it will take me about a week at my best or 2 weeks at my worst to read a book. I don't like to scan my books because I love to know every detail and don't like to miss things, but I have been scanning some things recently if the book I'm reading is within a dead line other than that i tend not too.

3 1/2 books a day.... DANG is that even possible???? WWWWoooahhh

message 10: by Grace (new)

Grace (fictionaladventures) | 60 comments If I don't have school, I can read a book in one day. If it's a short book, maybe i can read 1 1/2 or 2 in a day. But then again, it also depends on how enjoyable the book is for me. I consider myself a slow reader but I tend to read a lot faster during suspenseful parts of the books, I guess because I get really into it.

message 11: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarealist) | 14 comments I usually take 2 to 3 days for a book, depending on length and interest. I read in the morning with coffee and before I go to bed.

Lol not bad at all! Better than me it takes me about two weeks but it's okay I can't change how I read lol

Tana (tana_t) | 3459 comments Mod
I am a pretty fast reader but I try not to scan as I don't want to miss anything, if I do have a book and its gets to descriptive I do tend to skim those parts. I think I was always was the type to read fast, it must just be something that runs in my family or maybe because my mom is a school teacher and I've read from an early age.

message 15: by Danielle (new)

Danielle It depends on my interest and sometimes even the writing, I can read fast if I just want to know what happens next, but if i don't like it, I drag myself throught the story for weeks or even months to get through. So it depends. But then I hate to read fast because I always feel like I missed something when it's brought up a second time and then I have to go back and read again

message 16: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) A lot of times I get a book and finish it the same day, and my mom keeps saying that I must read really fast. I don't think that it matters how fast I read, but the fact that I will focus on the reading only and won't allow myself to get distracted. If I don't have school and the I'm really into the book, I will read until I'm finished, even if I'm up the entire night.

I've always wanted to have that kind of tenacity!

message 18: by Elena (new)

Elena (summerday) | 7 comments Depends on the book. If I'm hooked up on the book, I usually range between one and two days. If I'm reading something like a Classic, which sometimes are a little challenging, it takes me a few days. Sometimes even weeks.

This year I almost read 130 books so far, so I averagely go on a little more than a book every three days, theoretically.

MeMe Belikova First lady Ivashkov (alicebelikovreads) | 949 comments I'm with you @Elomari I'm an inbetween reader, I'm always working so I don't have enough time to read but if its good I will stay up past my bed time to finish it :)

Does it take you long to read a book?

message 22: by Jihaad (new)

Jihaad Albayaty | 326 comments no i'm pretty fast reader

message 23: by Beatrice (last edited Dec 03, 2011 06:24PM) (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) I have to admit that sometimes I'm a slow reader.. because I am busy with my school works and if the scene on the book is boring..

I'm a fast reader when I have nothing to do at home (usually semestral breaks) and the scene in the book makes me curious.

usually It took me 2-4 days. that depends on my schedule at school..

Classics are my weakness especially the Divine Comedy

Its okay I always seem to go off topic. But I think i seen maybe one episode where they have criminals stop other criminals from breaking out of jail or they catch criminals who have broken out of jail? lol its either one of those I'm not sure.

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) (mybookboyfriend) | 197 comments I loved Prison Break but loved 24 better.

Anyway, I am a fast reader.

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) (mybookboyfriend) | 197 comments Prison Break, 24, Lost, House, were some of my favs.

Back on topic, lol, I don't tend to skim unless I don't like the book and I have to read it to review.

message 42: by Carol (new)

Carol (blackamethyst) | 14 comments It really depends on the book for me if a book is really good I read it so fast eating it up cause its so good ,If the book is part of a long awaited series then I read slow savoring it espcially if its the last one in the series . I'm guilty of scan reading through the end of a book like the last few pages I want to get to the end quickly so I know what the out come is . lol

message 43: by MeMe Belikova (new)

MeMe Belikova First lady Ivashkov (alicebelikovreads) | 949 comments Lol @carol I do the same thing sometimes especially with The Last Day Sacrifice VA. I just had to get to the end, I'm guilty as charged too :)

message 44: by Pamela (new)

Pamela aka Scottieluvr (scottieluvr) Like many of you here, I too read fast; speed read. I skip the little words: a, the, of, at, a, etc.

I have been known to read five books between the hours of 6pm until 5am. Its when I was working and really needed the escape from the stress of that job. After that "book festival" I was rejuvenated and ready for another 70 hour work week.

Today I take my time, reading about 2 books an evening now (200-300 pgs each).

I know! *LOL* Thats how I feel when reading. Like the hours are ticking by at a snail's pace, but discover only a few minutes passed by. *LOL*

message 48: by Gracie (new)

Gracie (graciecmckeever) | 4 comments It depends. Right now my reading has slowed considerably since I'm buried in a WIP of my own. Usually I can go through an average-sized (400 pages) novel within a week, especially if it's fast-paced. Also read more than one book at a time, usually 4 (train/commute book, bike book, e-book and bedside book). I typically go through the train book the fastest, then the e-book.
