RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Obama said in his speech that change was going to take time.

On what do you think he should focus in his first year? What are realistic goals? What are his challenges?

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Gotta focus on the economy. I don't know about the rest of your questions, but the focus will have to be on the economy.

Kirk | 154 comments An interesting related question: what do we who reviled, lamented, loathed, and damn near cried our ducts dry for the past eight years do now? In other words, what are our obligations/ resposibilities/ opportunities from 2009 on?

My own feeling is that there's still a lot of bigotry to confront. To wit:

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Oh yeah, absolutely!

A friend of mine on Facebook said that a woman at her job was in tears this morning (the bad kind) saying, "Well, God has just abandoned this country." And then someone else said something about how we need to remain vigilant now. Yes, if these last eight years have taught us anything it's that if they are left "respected" (in the name of "everyone's entitled to their opinions and religious belief is sacrosanct and not to be criticized") and not spoken out against, they will, in fact, just take over the fucking country.

The economy is obviously the most important task Obama and his administration must face.

He must also tread very carefully with the new Democratic majority in the Congress. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid now wield more power, but they're clueless as to how to use it. Obama must show strength and the willingness to kick their political asses, now that their majority has the ability to put into effect the changes they've often talked about.

Books Ring Mah Bell Good question, RA. Take your pick. Economy. Cleaning up the Iraq mess.

I hope all the folks that voted for him realize he can't fix things overnight. I hope people STAY INVOLVED!

Sadly, on our morning talk show, the hosts asked this question "What is the first thing Obama should do?" Many callers said resign.

!!!!ARRRRRRRRG!!!!!

One woman called and said Obama needed to clear up his background. "He's not really African American. He was born in Pakistan and we don't know..." The hosts corrected her on his birthplace and explained that his father was Kenyan. They then had to explain that Kenya was in Africa. NO SHIT.

*Sigh*

This won't get me down today, but it's gonna get old, quick.

Barry's got his hands full for sure.

Gåry! (garyneill) It seems like ignorance is the biggest problem for the GOP; they just don't realize it.

I hope all this logic and clear thinking based on facts is used for the good of the country. Now that we HAVE the chance to make things good, let's not fuck it up.

Dave Russell I hope his first act is to reverse the ban on funding for stem cell research. It would have bipartisan support.

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Yay, Illinois!!!

I'd also like to have the Hyde Amendment repealed. (Is repealing what we do to amendments?)

message 11: by Lori (new)

Lori Gus, I agree with you completely. I'm not a fan of Pelosi and Reid, at all!
