If OASIS was active now, would you plug in?

Would you be as addicted?

Is it just the next evolution of gaming and the net, or do you think that will be something completely different?

Tad (tottman) | 159 comments I think aspects of OASIS could come into existence. High speed internet, system maintenance and other access issues probably stand in the way of something as ubiquitous as OASIS.

BUT, if it was active, I would spend as much time as I could there!

Andrea (andreakhost) Given the way it's presented (ie. all the game-worlds went to OASIS), then "Yes, I would play games on the internet".

Not to mention school, etc. The way it's presented, there doesn't seem to be much internet outside OASIS at the time of the novel.

Weirdology | 5 comments Oh hell yeah. I'd love to visit a world that's set up like the show Farscape, and interact with all the characters. And I'd like to always be wearing something that's considered too extreme for real life. And then there's the gaming. I never got into video games, but I'd probably like it better in OASIS. And I'd probably spend as much time there as I do on the internet. So yeah, I'd be addicted.

However, I don't think I would be as addicted to it as some of the characters in the book are. I would put real life financial issues before putting any money into the game. And I'd rather have a job than be a full time OASIS player.

Jack (attackofjack) I would love to plug in. I'd still probably not be as addicted to it as the majority of the characters, but I'd probably be in there multiple times a week, solely for the media available and the friendships I'd likely form. I wouldn't be able to afford any of the cool stuff :P

Peggy (psramsey) | 393 comments Oh hell yes.

Visiting Tolkien's worlds? The Whedonverse? Narnia? (hellloooo, Prince Caspian). Access to every game ever created?

They'd have to drag me out kicking and screaming.

You'd never see me anywhere but in OASIS.

I'd become one with the matrix :P

Pfft, as if that hadn't already happened...

Trike Oh, I'd totally be 31. You know, 24 and 7.

Yeah, I would plug into the OASIS in a heartbeat. It seems that you could come up with just about anything you could imagine in there, given enough time and money.

Jon (jonmoss) | 889 comments I would definitely plug in. Getting me to logout would probably be the problem.

Ami (aimdoggg) | 184 comments If it existed and I plugged in, I would totally get addicted. Knowing that, I would probably try and stay in the real world. I had to put the video games away in the closet a few years ago and keep the tech gadgets around here to a minimum in order to get anything done.

And it would get in the way of my reading time, though I guess I could alwys read in the OASIS, sitting on a tropical beach with a nice view or something...

It sounds fun.
