RandomAnthony | 14536 comments How do you cope with bad days? Bad weeks? Bad years? What are your coping mechanisms?

I've gotten better with this over the years. Right now when stressed out...

1. Work out, esp. on the elliptical...I run when my knees let me.

2. At work I've become much more confident about closing the door and taking ten minutes to myself to clear my head and re-prioritize.

3. I know who I can trust and I talk with them...two, three friends at work and the same amount at home, esp. my wife.

I used to eat, drink alcohol, and get very angry...I can avoid most of that behavior now, I'm glad to say. Part of growing up, I guess...

1) Chain smoking.

2) Ridiculous amounts of sleep.

3) Mindless watching of movies.

4) Bitching to my sister or Jenn.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I just walked over to get my mocha, and getting a bit of sunshine, and a 20 minute walk with mocha in hand around the baseball fields near my building, helped my mood enormously.
Getting lost in a book is another favorite way of calming my mind.
And taking a nap or a good night's sleep, because half the time I'm stressed because I'm tired. Things always look more doable when I'm well-rested.

In response to David's #4, I have to say:

5) Taking a trip to my local Walmart. I don't have to buy anything, I can just walk around and leave in a better mood.

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Oooh, sex, yes! Sex with someone other than myself (and not my ex-husband) would surely improve my mood.

shellyindallas Bitching, moaning, and whining. I'm thinking about switching to drugs, though.

I can't tell all you Obamas apart! :)

My coping mechanism: I tend to cry. Beaucoup. And I feel really tired, but I can't sleep. It's the Montambo Method.

Wren THE GYM. Nothing better than hard core cardio and weight lifting to beat stress (followed by a nice steamy shower and a good romp with my husband who has a wonderful....MUST...STOP...SHARING...SO...MUCH)

That said, a good old fashioned cry followed by a big glass of milk and chocolate chip cookies just can't be beat sometimes.

Dan Schwent (akagunslinger) Sex is a good coping mechanism. I hope my girlfriend wants to cope tomorrow when I see her.

Other than that, I find that taking my agression out on other motorists in a stream of profanity works well.
