Getting lost in a book is another favorite way of calming my mind.
And taking a nap or a good night's sleep, because half the time I'm stressed because I'm tired. Things always look more doable when I'm well-rested.
1. Drinking.
2. Sleep.
3. Pills.
4. Reading books about people less fortunate and/or more miserable.

In response to David's #4, I have to say:
5) Taking a trip to my local Walmart. I don't have to buy anything, I can just walk around and leave in a better mood.

Laurel, anort...I find it gets rid of a headache like magic though!

I can't tell all you Obamas apart! :)
My coping mechanism: I tend to cry. Beaucoup. And I feel really tired, but I can't sleep. It's the Montambo Method.

That said, a good old fashioned cry followed by a big glass of milk and chocolate chip cookies just can't be beat sometimes.

Other than that, I find that taking my agression out on other motorists in a stream of profanity works well.

I've gotten better with this over the years. Right now when stressed out...
1. Work out, esp. on the elliptical...I run when my knees let me.
2. At work I've become much more confident about closing the door and taking ten minutes to myself to clear my head and re-prioritize.
3. I know who I can trust and I talk with them...two, three friends at work and the same amount at home, esp. my wife.
I used to eat, drink alcohol, and get very angry...I can avoid most of that behavior now, I'm glad to say. Part of growing up, I guess...
