Mercury Finnick

message 202: by [deleted user] (new)

I knew Prim would die. Katniss saved her life by keeping her out of the Hunger Games, but the story returned full-circle with her death at the end. All Katniss had done was for her, but ultimately some things are impossible to control.

If Finnick had to die, then I wish it had been a little more memorable.

teresawantscoffee Everyone says Finnick but the worst for me was Prim. Yes, war is awful, we get it, you don't have to kill the main reason why the books started... It's just stupid...

message 204: by Andrea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Andrea Finnick's death was devastating for me! I just couldn't believe it nonetheless I am not angry at the author or anything ....I never expected the book to have a happy ending for everyone and I loved the book too.

message 205: by Grace (new) - rated it 3 stars

Grace Like everybody else, I agree with Finnick, I mean come on, he just got Annie back and honestly, I don't see why he had to die, especially dying such a gruesome way.

Car finnick

Gabriela Gonzales The brilliant point of this book is that it shows that in war, unnecessary deaths are inevitable. All deaths in this serious were completely unnecessary in the world of the story, but to get her point across, the horror of so many important, innocent people dying was very necessary. So although the deaths may have been sad, they're not unnecessary.

I agree with you :)

Gabriela Gonzales Charlotte wrote: "Everyone's death was necessary (even Finnick). They were in the middle of a war and in a war people die. She couldn't kill off Katniss or Peeta they were the two main characters, she couldn't kill ..."o

I completely agree.

message 210: by Sinead (new) - rated it 2 stars

Sinead Finnick and Prim she could have worked around killing these characters. Maybe made us think that Finnick died at some point but it ends up that he survives but is injured at the end of the book might have been a pleasurable plot twist. Prim dying was just stupid. If Suzanne Collins just had Katniss have a flashback of Rue dying I think that that would have been a good reason for Katness to kill Coin.

message 211: by [Coco] (new) - rated it 5 stars

[Coco] I'd say Finnick only cuz he was my favorite character.

How could she have a flashback to a moment if the moment never happened?

Jessica Even though I got VERY upset about Prim's death in the book, I think it was almost neccessary to the ending. If Prim hadn't died then the Coin would most likely still be the president. I know its weird but to me, it was like the symbolism of the war. Could I have done without it ... yes! But I think it would be harder to finish the book without it. Now, as for the killing of Finnick, to me that was the most unnecessary. Nothing was gained from that AT ALL! It left us hanging! all of a sudden he goes from happy married hero finnick odair to mauled by lizard mutants! he needed way moe explanation for being such a main character! Mags death in catching fire was also very confusing for me. I realize it would be hard to have an interesting battle in the arena if they were lugging her around. But I don't think they ever explained it! I thought the whole series was wonderful and I know its all fake. But these three deaths were bothersome to me when I first read the books....

message 214: by RochErk (new)

RochErk Prim & Cinna

message 215: by RochErk (new)

RochErk Finnick was hurtful too!!! :-(

Scott (Ozziespur) Prim had to die for the sake of the story but Finnick didn't need to.

message 217: by Hayley (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hayley When Finnick died, I was in shock. I didn't actually believe it because it was SO sudden and there was no reason. The lack of explanation added to my confusion. I don't think it ruined the books for me, but it certainly was unnecessary.

message 218: by Tessa (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tessa Finnick and Prim. Besides being pointless they are also bad described, like there was no feeling behind it. I was something like...wait, did they die? Just like that?

message 219: by Erica (new) - rated it 3 stars

Erica finnick and prim

Isabelle Finnick and prim were very unecessary!!!

message 221: by Hannah (new) - rated it 4 stars

Hannah finnick and prim and cinna! i wish they hadn't died!

Kelechi Mostly Finnick . . . I can see why Cinna and Prim's deaths were necessary, even though it doesn't make their deaths any less awful.

message 223: by Jasmin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jasmin Finnick. I still can't believe Collins killed him! What was the worst thing I think, is that she didn't pay attention to his dead at all. Once he was alive, then he got killed and nobody missed him until Annie get known he's gone. Just can't get it...

Chelseabelle wrote: "Is anyone here a HP fan? Because when Collins says that Katniss includes a picture of Finnick and Annies baby in her deathbook, I felt like "it's lupin and tonks all over again""

That's exactly what I was thinking. Finnick was happy at last. The country was maybe in war but he and Annie got each other. Then he's suddenly dead. Ok, maybe this was better than in Lupin and Tonks's situation but still...

message 224: by Chloe (new) - rated it 5 stars

Chloe I totally think Finnick is the worst! I actually had to backtrack a page or two so I could see what happened to him because Collins glossed over it so quickly. At first I thought maybe he got out before Katniss and everyone. I don't even think it was necessary... I mean I get that every story has favorites die to get emotions up... but favorites already had died (Cinna) and Prim eventually would too so why not keep this one?! Finnick dying broke my heart =( And as much as I hated Prim and Cinna dying, there was a reason for both of them to really... It added to the plot for sure :/

Karo Laura-Kayleigh wrote: "Mostly Finnick . . . I can see why Cinna and Prim's deaths were necessary, even though it doesn't make their deaths any less awful."

I totally agree!

I think Cinna's death hurt the most (well, me personally) but as Laura said, his and Prim's death had quite an impact on Katniss.
With Finnick though, it was a "blink and you'll miss it" type of death and he didn't deserve to die in such a way, with his death being given so little attention.

Inês finnick...

Finnick and Prim and Cinna

Maya Finnick and Cinna

Ashleigh Gray i also think that madge's death was unnecessary. she was such a sweetheart.

Amanda (Gale's Chosen One) Potter I don't know i'd call them unnecessary because it's a book about war and people are going to die. It had to be realistic.
Prim, Cinna and Finnick being killed broke my heart but i kind of understand and accept it.
Well not so much Finnick's. He's my favourite character so i'll never be okay with it, i just try to accept it, and part of me does. Which is hard because like many other fans i felt like his death was very quickly done and out of the way. He deserved more. He should have been kept alive or had a better death. So in a way i feel like Finnicks was unnecessary.

Ugh, i actually don't know. I'm so torn between accepting the deaths and being pissed off.

Ms. Anderson Finnick and Prim. The feeling is mutual.

message 232: by Morgan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Morgan Prim

message 233: by Hannah (new) - rated it 4 stars

Hannah Totally and completely Prim. RIP <3

Barbara Huskey Finnick for sure. It was just like, bam, he's dead. Oh well, move on. There was more time spent mourning Briggs than Finnick who had a much larger role and seemed to actually matter to Katniss, until he died than it was like he never existed. It was the closest thing to emotion I felt at all for the characters, and it was more anger and frustration at the author for just writing him off so quickly and easily.

Maia Finnick.

message 238: by Sarah (new) - rated it 3 stars

Sarah All you people saying Prim, how would Collins have ended the book then? Prim's death was what made Katniss turn on Coin, so it really was necessary. Finnick's death was just stupid. In my opinion, Collins felt like she had to kill someone off to make it realistic (which I agree with), but the way she did it was really bad. I think either she should've stuck with Finnick, but make him like, sacrifice himself or something, OR killed off Gale instead, that would've been best.

Catherine FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! FINNICK! Micaela griffin Finnick, and Prim

message 243: by Amanda (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amanda For me I think it would have to be Rue as she really represents the completely unjustified killing of children for absolutely no reason. She was so full of life and just a kid so it was truly heartbreaking.

Catherine Flitton Definitely Finnick, I already didn't like the third book. It had the feeling of desperation, wanting more action but really the story was getting stupid. Then she killed Finnick and it just made me cross. No need. And like others have said it was just wham bam, he's dead, oh well, on we go.... no depth to the story line so why bother?

message 245: by Emily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emily yeah i was sad that prim died but it was nessary to the story i think aswell, but finnick could of lived!!

Amethyst Finnick!! Awh, I Was Soo Upset When He Died... I Had Put The Book Down. But Prims Death... Made Me Cry... This Book Put Me In The Spot Of Katniss And When Prim Died I Thought Of It As If My Little Sister Died

Madison Sheyenne finnick and prim

message 248: by Inès (new) - rated it 4 stars

Inès Finnick, unnecessary AND I'm so upset that he just died in like one sentence. No, you just don't kill Finnick like if he was a random character. You write a whole chapter or you let him live.

Delaney I think in terms of the death being unnecessary, not who I didn't want to die, it would be Mags. Sure everyone on here would say that Finnick or Prim's death were unnecessary because we had emotional attachment to these characters, but for Mags to run into the fog when she was perfectly capable of at least trying to run away was definitely unnecessary.

RegencyEmma Finnick!! I loved him! He shouldn't have died :(
