Jamie (The Kansan Reader) I don't think there was an unnecessary death in the book. Collins may have showed that death takes who it takes an there is no fairness in it.

clemens Alma Coin. It's like Julianne said once: the fact the books are in Katniss view- so we are captured in her mind, view, opinion and so on. Bc of that we are catched and manipulated by her. I definitely enjoy reading the passage with Alma. And it is not that I see a different person in Alma, bc I really adore and love Julianne. Her intentions and ideas how to play and embody Alma in the movies are definitely my real idea of Alma and so her death is so unnecessary.

Emma Cinna maybe?

His death was a threat to Katniss but was it necessary...

message 354: by Izzy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Izzy I think Prim could've lived and definitely Finnick should've lived.

Charlotte Finnick and although I didn't want Prim too die i think it WAS a necessary for her too die. Sorry, I just think it made the plot better.

Ricco Prim!

Hallie Don't' you this topic ought to have spoiler warnings?

message 358: by Emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emma No because its based on the last book in the series. If it was the first or second, then yes, there would need to be spoiler warnings.

Libby Finnick. Although, Prim's death was sad, too. I hated it when Rue, Boggs, Madge and Maggs died, though. But I still cry when I think of Finnick, he and Katniss are my favorite characters.

Libby Oh and Cinna! I keep mourning Finnick, though.

Ellie Finnick in the book was heart breaking, he just got his true love back and little did he know a baby on the way, it was just like...not fair!

rosechen ALL

Eva Finnick... but I was the saddest about Rue and Prim.

message 366: by Starla (new) - rated it 4 stars

Starla Rabb Prim

KhanMunaza Prim

KhanMunaza The story actually starts with Katniss trying to protect Prim by taking her place in the games.....So I guess the motive is all lost after her death

Yeah. Prim and Finnick. Rue and Cinna.

Jase Finnick. In both the books and the movies his death was pointless. The characters didn't mourn over the loss of there friend! to me, finnick was proof of what the capital does to victors and that they don't let the victors really win. they just let them survive (which still is awful because they then have to become mentors). his death made the book mockingjay less enjoyable. i see where Collins is coming from but it would have been better if finnick lived to see the ending of the rebellion and was left alive as proof of the past and what the capital used to be. he should have at least had a better and more emotional death that contributed to the cause.

not necessarily. i agree with prim's death only because it was katniss's last straw against coin. prim's death stopped the uprising of coin and helped the districts become a democracy. her motive was actually increased after her sisters death because she saw what the coin was willing to do to rule.
