Diane | 13052 comments My reading goals for 2012:

1. Read at least 100 books this year
2. Read books from at least 20 countries I have not read about before.
3. Read books from authors I have not read before for about 50% of the books I read this year.
4. Read more of the classics.
5. Read more 1001 books this year.
6. *Hopefully* get to the point of reading more books off of my TBR pile than I am adding each year (is that even possible????)

Jenclone | 78 comments I'm actually thinking of rereading some of the books I haven't visited for a long time. The Witch of Blackbird Pond is on the shelf by my bed - and I don't think I've read it since I was my daughter's age. I was tickled to see that's a group read for February.

Annina - I'm gonna read at least 40 books
- 15 of them needs to be in 1001 books list
- 10 of them needs to be from my bookshelf

And there's big classics coming up.. like Gone with the wind, Les Mirables, Name of the rose, some Jane Austen's and some Russian classics.. so I will be really happy if I will reach my goals after all those classics..

Her Royal Orangeness (onlyorangery) 1. Read more than I buy. (Hahaha!)
2. Read a significant number of books from the Orange Prize lists.
3. Complete AtWi80...and start again in October. :)
4. Read Vanity Fair. I've set a personal challenge to read this through the year using the original serialized publication schedule (slightly modified).
5. Read at least 2 books with 700+ pages, one of which will be Vanity Fair.

Alison (alison8) | 2 comments I am going to take your challenge of Round The World in 80 books - I need a new pleasure reading challenge as I do a lot of reading in my work ( teacher of History and a doctorate student ) - not sure I can get through 80 books - in a year - can I use books I have already read to get me started?
Also , Diane , how do I start my own "strand" - is that the right word?

Welcome, Alison! You can count books read since the beginning of October. No need to read 80 books, just as many as you personally feel you can read in a year. The books can be of any genre.
