What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This book was awesome but I can't remember the name. I do remember that the author was murdered before the book was finished, so it was published posthumously. It was a sad case of life imitating art.

The protagonist is a bookstore owner in the middle east (sorry, can't remember the country either...). The country is taken over by Islamic fundamentalists who force him to close his bookstore. He loses his family and eventually his life.
