Linda Rae (lrbauthor) | 7 comments Another topic starter. This blog is about my take on the responsibility of indie writers to do their utmost to keep the quality of their work as publish-worthy as that of traditionally published work. I believe this blog will be a great starting point for the discussion.

Read, "A Reminder to Indies" http://lindaraeblairauthor.wordpress....

Chris Jackson (chrisajackson) | 2 comments I could not agree more, Linda. I indipendently published three novels before I got my first contract. I won a national and state award for my work, and got some really good reviews. This, I am sure, is what got me that serious consideration that landed a contract...and has gotten me two more national awards, which will get me a better contract next time... climbing the ladder is dependent on the quality and marketability of your work (More often than not, more the latter than the former, which is rather sad)

I've begun following you too. I think this is a great topic. I also saw an entry on Amazon.com not that long ago where a reader was basically asking how to sort "real books" from all the indie crap out there. I was incensed and left a strongly worded reply.

The best advice I ever got was to use the new media available to me as an author to circumvent the usual process of "hurry up and wait" when it comes to publishers. It's allowed me to do so much, like all indies. And yet, we have to contend with that rather sticky prejudice still.
