Hey Mounika,

Here are your picks. I hope you like them! I had a lot of fun choosing them for you. =)

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: Match Me if You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
- you seem to like Phillips other works and this is considered one of her bests
Cupid Rules!: Delirium by Lauren Oliver - this book is VERY romantic. At times I found it a bit sappy and boring but I think the author did really well with the romance
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins - I loved this book! Cricket is so unusual and such a great hero. He and Lola were such a cute couple

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: Midsummer Moon by Laura Kinsale
- this is one of my favourite historical romances. The heroine is innocent and hilarious while the hero struggles to keep up with her exuberance.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - a bit strange, but a really good read once you get into it. Have the tissues handy...
Valentine's Day Massacre: Made to be Broken by Kelley Armstrong - Nadia’s a really strong character and I loved her kickass personality and capabilities

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
- everybody is crazy about this book and the attention isn’t unwarranted.
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie - if you haven’t read her yet, you should. Crusie has the most chaotic ideas.
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons - oh yeah! When I saw the word “Russia” I was so pleased. This book is incredible. It’s a World War 2 book involving a 17 year old girl and a 22 year old American soldier in a love triangle in the Soviet Union. LOVE this book.

Bonus Time!
The Perfect Rake by Anne Gracie
- this was such a fun read. It had everything I could ever want in a book. A lot of laughs, plenty of smiles and a few tears.

Match Me If You Can (Chicago Stars, #6) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins Midsummer Moon by Laura Kinsale The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Made to Be Broken (Nadia Stafford, #2) by Kelley Armstrong The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins Welcome to Temptation (Dempseys, #1) by Jennifer Crusie The Bronze Horseman (Tatiana and Alexander, #1) by Paullina Simons The Perfect Rake (The Merridew Sisters, #1) by Anne Gracie

message 203: by Shell (new)

Shell | 2 comments Pam, it was great looking through your shelves. I found several things I added for my own. It was a wonderful surprise to find professional books on your shelves as well. I added a few books for my teaching shelf :)

Let me know if you'd like me to revisit this, I hope you find something you like.

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: You've read a lot of Nora Roberts. She's a fabulous writer. Why not try either: Blood Brothers or Glory in Death I enjoyed Blood Brothers, and have book 2 to read shortly. You read book 1 and liked it, so why not book 2?
Cupid Rules!: These books are a HOT read. They're both fantastic beginnings to a smoking series: Laid Bare & Long Hard Ride
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: A "nerd" guy and a "kick-ass girl" are The Geek Job

Blood Brothers (Sign of Seven, #1) by Nora Roberts Glory in Death (In Death, #2) by J.D. Robb Laid Bare (Brown Siblings, #1) by Lauren Dane Long Hard Ride (Rough Riders, #1) by Lorelei James The Geek Job by Eve Langlais

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: This one is hard for me, as I love reading series, but I noticed you've some professional books on your list. So I thought I'd pick a professional book and an escape book. Professional: Deeper Reading You have a book by this author already, and other teachers in my building have loved this. It's one that's on my growing TBR Pile of professional texts. If nothing else, it's something to keep in mind for your TBR professional list. Escape: Just the Sexiest Man Alive This book I had to finish in one sitting. I really want to see it made into a movie with a hot actor and witty smart ass female lead.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: 0 romance in this, but it's a good read. It is a good window into how people with Asperger's Syndrome take things. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time This has been calling me to read since it came out last year: A Monster Calls It looks to be shivery.
Valentine's Day Massacre: Murder, "Gang/Mob" (ie Vampire clans) and is in Chicago... Some Girls BiteI read it this past month and really got a kick out it. :) Another Chicago fave is Storm Front Gotta love a man with a skull named Bob.

Deeper Reading by Kelly Gallagher Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: Harmonic Feedback or Betrayed
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Raphael or Hounded
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Scent of Darkness or Anna

Harmonic Feedback by Tara Kelly Betrayed (House of Night, #2) by P.C. Cast Raphael (Vampires in America, #1) by D.B. Reynolds Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne Scent of Darkness (Darkness Chosen, #1) by Christina Dodd Anna (The Kirov Saga, #1) by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles

Bonus Time!
a younger sister character - Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, #1)

message 207: by Dragana (last edited May 07, 2012 07:00AM) (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Hello Dawn,
Categories were really tough this month (at least for me) but I hope I found something that you will like. I tried sticking to your TBR most of the time. If not, tell me and I will re-pick. :)

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: (Recommend a book from a series or author that your pickee already loves.)
I recently discovered Aisling Grey: Guardian series, and I am loving it so far. I see you liked first two books, why not read the third one? Light My Fire
Cupid Rules!: (Recommend a romance!)
I tried to dig out some 'clean' romance novel from a pile of pnr in your tbr. ;) Lisa Kleypas is my favourite historical romance author. I see you added Secrets of a Summer Night. Try it out, I think you will like it.
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: (In honour of the leap year tradition where girls propose to guys choose a book with unconventional gender roles or characteristics for the lead characters (kick-ass girls and wimpy guys count!).)
I read If Tomorrow Comes long time ago, but it is still one of my favourite books, real page turner. Heroine lives trough quite a transformation here and she get cought in some situations and ends doing a job, that is still more connected to male gender.

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: (Recommend a stand-alone novel.)
Garden Spells. It's not part of the series, has an array of interesting characters. Very similar to movie 'Practical magic' so if you liked it, you will like this one also.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: (Recommend a book from a genre other than romance - horror, sci fi, fantasy, crime. Anything low (or non-existent) in terms of romance.)
Good Omens. It has a little romance, but that is definitelly not the main subject. And the book is very funny.
Valentine's Day Massacre: (In honour of the 1929 Valentine's Day Massacre, choose a book that features gang/mob crime or murder or is set in Chicago.)
This was tough. But I saw Slave to Sensation on your tbr. And it has murder investigation as a one of the main plot elements.

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: (Pick a book that is written by a black author, has a black main character or a black cover.)
Black cover & review sounds interesting ~ The Last Werewolf
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): (Recommend a book that is set in the US, features politics or was written by an American author.)
I always plan to read Divergent but always get sidetracked. Why don't we read it together? :) Oh, and it is set in USA, so it fits this category...
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): (Recommend a book set in Russia, with a Russian character or written by a Russian author.)
This was the toughest to find something... Night Watch is by a Russsian author and it happens in Russia. I watched the movie based on this book some time ago and it was intereseting.

Bonus Time! (My little sister is getting married on February 4th so here's a bonus category to pick for - select a book that is fourth in a series, has a younger sister character or features a wedding)
Fourth book in the series - Destined for an Early Grave :)

Light My Fire by Katie MacAlister Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen Good Omens by Terry Pratchett Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth Night Watch (Watch, #1) by Sergei Lukyanenko Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost

Thanks for the great recs. I”ll definitely be reading Rapture in Death since I’m part of the J.D. Robb book-a-month buddy read! I also just yesterday checked Ghost Story out of the library as incentive to finally finish Turn Coat and Changes, which I own. I’m going to look over your other recs and see if I can fit one or two of them into other monthly challenges. At the very least, I’ve added to my TBR pile, whether I get to them in February or not!

As for the buddy read, I’m leaning toward Extreme Exposure. I recommended that to my own pickee, so if she’s up for it we could have a small group read.

Lady Allison | 118 comments Joyce, here are my picks for this romance filled month, hope you enjoy! :)

Cupids rules! Romance abounds!
Always and Forever: Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning - it looks like you loved the first 3, you HAVE to finish this series, it's amazing! Trust me, when you get to Shadowfever, you'll thank me!
Cupid Rules!: Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward - if you enjoyed the first 2 of this series, keep going! This is one of those series that will never let you go.
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: One of my favorite kick ass heroines is Evy from Three Days to Dead - it's a very fast-paced UF that hooks you pretty quickly.

Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward Three Days to Dead (Dreg City, #1) by Kelly Meding

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: Catch A Mate by Gena Showalter - it's a cute stand alone by a fantastic author
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: If you enjoy audio books & Neil Gaiman, you should listen to The Graveyard Book. He narrates it which makes that much better of a book, I felt like I was at adult Storytime :)
Valentine's Day Massacre: Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill - Set in Chicago, Merit is one of my favorite vamp heroines & I loved how well written these stories were

Catch A Mate by Gena Showalter The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know
Black History Month: Naked by Megan Hart - one of the main characters is black. MH is always pretty intense but her characters & stories are very real, I love reading her.
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare - written by an American author, & since it's about investigative reporting there are plenty of politics involved! This series was such a rush to read, my first foray into romantic suspense & an explosive one at that!
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Frostbite by Richelle Mead - Dimitri totally counts as our Russian hottie here. I know you only gave the 1st three stars because it is a bit slow, but I promise that it picks up quite a bit & you'll be hooked sooner than you know! Mead is a talented storyteller, just give her a chance :)

Naked by Megan Hart Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead

Bonus Time!
Vision in White by Nora Roberts - my absolute favorite wedding series! The characters are so fun to read & it will make you smile through the whole book, hope you love them as much as I did :)

Vision in White (Bride Quartet, #1) by Nora Roberts

D.G. | 4477 comments Laura: It was a bit difficult to pick for you because you seem to read mostly paranormal with some contemporary romance thrown in and some of the categories didn't lend themselves to either genre. I am def. going to try for Heartless because I have it on my pile of series to finish up this year and the last book is due out in April as well. Jojo | 1010 comments February PIFM

Hi Megan L
I’m sorry about the delay but today has been crazy with making sure the kids do their homework and games afternoon but it’s finally done and here are your picks for Feb – hope you find at least a couple of good one to read.

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)

Always and Forever: Recommend a book from a series or author that your pickee already loves.
Crave by J R Ward – You’ve read the BDB but only the first of this series, I loved it

Cupid Rules!: Recommend a romance!
It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips – I tries to pick something from your TBR that I loved and this was not only a great book but the first in the series.

Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: In honour of the leap year tradition where girls propose to guys choose a book with unconventional gender roles or characteristics for the lead characters (kick-ass girls and wimpy guys count!).
Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman – as you’d expect with witches they’re definitely in charge and while it’s different from the film it’s a a great book.

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?

Single and Loving It!: Recommend a stand-alone novel.
The Princess Bride by William Goldman
Wuthering Heights by Charlotte Bronte
A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute
3 of my all time favourite books ever.

Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: Recommend a book from a genre other than romance - horror, sci fi, fantasy, crime. Anything low (or non-existent) in terms of romance.
This is very difficult because I read so many genres but I’ve gone with :
The Stand by Stephen King – I’ve re-read this about a dozen times
The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan – a fantasy book which is a great start to a great series and only 1 more to go
Viciousby Kevin O’ Brien – a thriller which I only read last week, it was unbelievably tense and I couldn’t put it down.

Valentine's Day Massacre: In honour of the 1929 Valentine's Day Massacre, choose a book that features gang/mob crime or murder or is set in Chicago.
The Godfather by Mario Puzo – it has to be this book. I first read it when I was 15 and loved it then.

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads

Black History Month: Pick a book that is written by a black author, has a black main character or a black cover.7
The Color Purple by Alice Walker – I loved the film and would like to read the book

President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Recommend a book that is set in the US, features politics or was written by an American author.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Graham Smith – this seems appropriate and I love vampire books

Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Recommend a book set in Russia, with a Russian character or written by a Russian author.
Gorky Park by Martin Cruz Smith – this was very difficult to pick but I’ve heard good things about this book.

Bonus Time!
My little sister is getting married on February 4th so here's a bonus category to pick for - select a book that is fourth in a series, has a younger sister character or features a wedding :)
Vision in White by Nora Roberts – the first in the Bride Quartet, Nora Roberts is always good and I notice you have this in your TBR.

Crave (The Fallen Angels, #2) by J.R. Ward It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman The Princess Bride by William Goldman Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute The Stand by Stephen King The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time, #1) by Robert Jordan Vicious by Kevin O'Brien The Godfather by Mario Puzo The Color Purple by Alice Walker Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith Gorky Park (Arkady Renko, #1) by Martin Cruz Smith Vision in White (Bride Quartet, #1) by Nora Roberts

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Melissa, thank you so much for the picks! I'm glad you didn't see Dee's 'suggestion' before you posted picks.

Not sure what I'll go with yet. The Chicagoland Vamp book is a definite, I just have to see when I can get it. The 50 Shades is another good possibility. I have The Help sitting here but have yet to read it. I also bought KMM's Beyond the Highland Mist and haven't read it. A friend said she wanted to read it so I bought it and gave it to her. She gave it back a week later with a tepid review so I haven't picked it up since. Maybe that will be the one.

Thank you again and I'll let you know which one and give a review.

Laura (and D.G.) D.G. rec'ed Ready Player One to me a few PiFM's ago. I wanted to read it, but unfortunately (for me), it was SOOOOO popular (and wonderful) that I was #145 on a list of #145 from the library. I finally got it in last week and am loving it! As someone who grew up in the 80's, I gotta say it's a blast from the past. You'll love it! Thanks D.G.!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Melissa, BTW, thank you for the quick picks. Your diligence should be a shining example to one and all! (says the slacker who has yet to post his picks. - Really I'll do them this morning.)

Single and Loving It!: Chill Factor by Sandra Brown - this is one of Sandra Brown's best.

Cupid Rules!
Always and Forever:
The Light Fantastic, I saw you read and loved the first one, so might as well continue the series!

Cupid Rules:
Shadowland, I happened to love this series as a younger teenager. It has a nice flair of paranormal and romance.

Diamonds are A Girl’s Best Friend:
I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You(Gallagher Girls #1), the heroine is a kick ass spy trying to find some normalcy in her fantastical world and finds herself interested in a guy she could kill in more than 5 ways. I adore this series and Cammie’s spunk, the boy she dates in book 1 definitely cannot keep up with her dangerous set of skills, but it’s a cute read.

Screw Cupid!
Single and Loving it!:
Kiss an Angel is a cute book that I was just absorbed in all day.

Stupid Cupid – Stop Picking on Me:
Lord of the Flies: it’s a great and quick read that really has absolutely no romance in it. It’s an island full of boys and they’re all trying to kill each other. What’s better than blood and violence on Valentine’s Day? Haha.

<Valentine’s Day Massacre:
In Cold Blood, a great book that had me in tears, or maybe I’m just sensitive. I feel everyone should read this book, especially since Capote gives such great descriptions on the crime.

Other Stuff Happens in February you know – Buddy Reads
Black History Month:
The Pursuit of Happyness, it’s an inspirational book on a once-homeless man going Wall Street. The movie was great, why not try the book?

President’s Day (And Lincoln’s Birthday):
Fight Club, written by Chuck Palahniuk, the same with my last recommendation, the movie was great, so why not try out the book? And it has to do with politics, only it’s bloodier.

Maslenitsa (Russian Spring Festival):
Notes from Underground, it’s a short read (233 pages) and it’s Dostoyevsky! I don’t know if you’re a fan, but I read The Brothers Karamazov and that was pretty awesome.

Bonus Time!
Something Borrowed, it’s a cute story that centers on three friends, two of which are getting married to each other.

I hope you like my picks for you! :)
