SOS: Serious Overload of Series discussion

I imagine with the gap between books we all forget little details here and there. I thought I'd start a thread where hopefully we can help each other out.

My question is from a stray comment in Kate makes in Magic Gifts by Illona Andrews. It's inside the spoiler tag, just in case.

Not sure that this is what you are looking for but in Magic Slays, chap 10 (view spoiler)[Legend says, in savage times, back when Ukraine was home to Slavic tribes, they made war with the Khazarian Empire to the east. During one of those raids, all the men from the village were taken. Magic was still in the world back then, although it was growing weaker, and the old ways were strong in the area. The women worked a charm on themselves, the power of enchantment, to make people want to please them. They got their men back.

So Rowena is same ancestry, but watered down. (hide spoiler)]

Great thread idea, Kira. I'm sure it'll come in handy for others as well. I'm always forgetting stuff, especially when there is so much time between books.

But he had a GF (stupid, ignorant girl) who was pregnant (apparently, they can't get pregnant easily). If the People were aware of Christine, then they would definitely kill her and the child. So she went to the witches to hide Rowena Christine. In return, they bound her to Kate for 3 years (hide spoiler)]

I love the search feature in eBooks! And, like Laura Lulu, I sometimes use it to catch the insane amount of repeats within a book. But, it has a lot of great uses for sure.

Okay this has been bugging me for days, maybe I've dreamt it but I don't think I have, it's just that little bit out of reach in my mind. I reckon it's a demon book (probably an obvious one at that :S), could be ?

I think this is near the start:

A girl goes to see a guy (maybe her cousin?) in a bar. Someone in his family (could be hers as well) had just died. Police think heart attack or something like that but this guy thinks it's suspicious, that they were murdered and that he's going to be next. Thinks someone might be follwing him maybe?
Out in the carpark, man/demon appears, strangles guy. She can't do anything, pepper spray doesn't work etc. She shouts for help, guy dies, everyone says it was a heart attack, no one sees demon cos he disappears (or turns into a dog, can't remember).
She's back at home, thinking about drama, knock at the door, little girl (or could be dog but I'm 75% sure it wasn't). Let her in, quel surprise, it was actually the demon, marked her(?), it hurt, then... can't remember the rest...

Does anyone recognise it? :)

Could it be ? I can't find the book right now (and haven't read Otherkin, so don't know if you hit it there), but some of that seems like what happened at the beginning.

Josie, I do not know what book you are talking about but I am positive that it is not . There is no dog involved in this story.

Ok, maybe I throw my party a bit too soon. Now, I'm thinking I'm confusing several books which fit pieces of your blurb. Waaah. I'll keep lookin' though and let ya know what I find.

Judithe, I think that's it! See, I was looking through all demon books and obviously wrote that off as a vamp book, completely forgetting that there's some kind of demon shapeshifter thing! Thank you! Oh the sweet relief. My mind can relax now :)

Josie, I enjoyed both. But, the 2nd has received many mixed reviews.

I haven't got the book on me because it was a borrowed one from the library but I'm sure it was ! My mind has stopped niggling me (which I don't think it would've done if it's not right) and all that waffle about the demon, dogs and little girls does happen at the beginning. I was just looking in the wrong place at strictly demon books lol.

Yep, it's starts on page 1 Amber is the cousin who had died, Paul is the cousin murdered in front of Denise, Denise is the one marked. The Demon is wiping out the family bloodline in an effort to find one of her ancestors, Nathaniel, who stiffed him on payment.

Thanks for the help everyone, I spent a night racking my brain over what it could be lol, it was so fustrating!

I've got one.... Read a short story where the girl was given a drug that makes her irresistible to vamps, but when they bite her, her blood kills them. She is guarded by a soldier type guy she loves, but he is drugged to have no feelings to keep him from going rouge I think? She thinks that her current state is killing her, so she is seeking a cure and avoiding those that want to use her as a weapon. Sound familiar to anyone? Is it a good series to start??

I'm going to read but it's been forever since I read . Can anyone recap for me what happened in book 1?

LOL Vivian, here is most of my review for #1 (view spoiler)[Cassie Palmer, a clairvoyant, became an orphan at 4 when Tony, a vampire mafiosa, blew up the car her parents were in. He wanted to be able to control her and her visions. She escapes when 14 but goes back several years later so she can get Tony imprisoned for tax evasion etc al la Al Capone. Of course, he escapes.

The mages are desperate to track her down as their Pythia (descended from Delphic Oracle) is dying and Cassie is a potential. They really don't want her to be the new Pythia but if she is, they want to control her.

So Tony and his vamps, the mages and Rasputin (he of the Russian vamps) and armies of followers are all after her. Not to mention the ghosts.

Mircea, of the American Vampire Council has been looking after Cassie since she was 11, in a hands off way and steps in to protect her. But she keeps going back in time in her visions and so does Rasputin with his kidnapped potential. All is not well as the time-line keeps getting messed up.

Whilst back in time, the Pythia appears and Cassie has no option but to become the new Pythia. (hide spoiler)]

Funny, I liked that the info was not repeated to death in this series. Well, it does in a way with all the time travelling going on....you dig up the earlier books to make sure that all adds up. There is always a little insignificant detail that kicks in the following book. Don't get me started, I love this series with all those historical characters...too much action going on I get winded just reading it.

Normally, I get so sick of recap, but it's cause if I tend to read back-to-back. When there's a gap, my memory tends to let me down, lol. Not yet begun, but maybe it'll come back.

Honestly, the first book is the worst. Karen Chance would take a long frashback that dragged the story a bit. The integration of shifts are way better in the second book and the story comes together and flows smoothly.

that's good to hear. I remember the first one being a little disconnected with the info dumps.

@Val. Thanks, that's good to know. I kind of buried the rest at the bottom of my tbr pile, maybe I'll pull them out again.

All Imma gonna say is that the action picks up on the second book and sets the tone of the series. Going back in time to keep people from changing it can have interesting consequences.
