Karen | 120 comments Currently reading First Rider's Call (Green Rider, #2) by Kristen Britain , having read Beefy's Cricket Tales My Favourite Stories from On and Off the Field by Ian Botham . Ok at first, but soon started to become brain numbing, as all the stories seemed to merge into one, so I admit it was a struggle to finish this one!

Just started Road Ends by Mary Lawson I have been looking for books like hers for years and was surprised to find she had released a new book in the UK. In the middle of moving house (again!) but it was must read so I've started it. Hopefully I'll be able to find some time to read it this weekend in my new house:)

Breige (breigeflynn) | 87 comments Last night I started Stuff Matters: Exploring the Marvelous Materials That Shape Our Man-Made World by Mark Miodownik. I have just gotten two fiction books out of the library as well so I need to decide which one to read first.

I've decided to give a Discovery of witches another go. Hope I can get into it this time.

message 260: by Liz (new)

Liz | 50 comments I never did really like that Sam - seemed too derivative and predictable... Hope its better 2nd time round!

Just finished The Girl Who escaped from the Titanic - not sure why I bought it except it was fairly cheap on Kindle (and In a sucker for Titanic stories). A light fluffy read but not well written in places, I thought.

Karen | 120 comments Currently reading The Ben Hope Collection - addictive, and I'm onto the last book. Not sure what the next one will be - suspect it may be the new Stephen King (Mr. Mercedes)....

message 263: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments I watched The Ice Cream Girls on demand yesterday and then realised that I have this book on my shelf! So I am going to read that.

I am also reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth in preparation for September!

message 264: by Karen (new)

Karen | 120 comments Finished The Ben Hope Collection this morning before I came into the playpen, and have decided that my braincell needed a break for thriller.

So, I've opted to read an old favourite of mine: The Fall of Atlantis. Not sure what the book after this will be, as I have the new Ben Hope book on the kindle... And I can feel it's call like a Siren!

I've read all her books and loved them but that one is particularly good I thought, did you enjoy it?

message 267: by Karen (new)

Karen | 120 comments Quite a reading blitz... And all because I don't like football or tennis.

Currently reading The Broken Empire Series Books 1 and 2: Prince of Thorns, King of Thorns - and if you pardon the pun, these books have really hooked me. Wasn't sure at first, but it's one of those books that has grown on me.

Not sure what the next book will be, but no doubt I'll drag something out of the bookshelf...

Think it might be An Appetite for Wonder: The Making of a Scientist - got this for Christmas as a tree-book, and as it's a hardback, it's too heavy to take on holiday.

A Million Little Pieces by James Frey I wasn't aware of the controversy and I had this book on my to read pile so when Kelly Ripa mentioned how much she loves it I started reading. I have been a bit out of sorts with my reading since moving to the U.S. and I keep starting books and reading a fair chunk before being distracted and then feeling disinterested when I want to read again. THis book has got me reading and I am pretty destined to keep going. Has anyone read it?

message 269: by Jo (new)

I read it years ago, that's the one where it seems much of it is made up isn't it? I can't really remember whether I thought it was good or not, might be worth a re-read to see.

I think he claimed that if was real http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/27/boo... (hope that works - I'm on my fire hd). I gave it a break for a few days since I got to the part where he was at the dentist and I had an appointment. What are you reading at the mo'?

A discovery of witches, is going well :-)

Darn good book that one. Book 3 The Book of Life is due out 15th July on the kindle - and I cannot wait :-)

Currently reading Cockroaches, and it's really enjoyable - plenty of twists and turns, and is really keeping me hooked.

Not sure what the next book will be - but suspect it may be Web of Lies as I need a braincell break before tackling anything more complicated....

I found the second Discovery of witches book a bit of a let down, I hope the third one is better (although that might have just been me)

Have been busily updating my bookshelves trying to remember what I've read whilst not on here much. Getting through GoT4 fairly rapidly and trying not to read anything alongside it in case I get distracted and stop again.
September releases include the new Tana French and Ben Aaronovitch books, so I need finish books 4 and 5 before then.

Leonie Heins (neonie) | 13 comments I am currently re-reading the Harry Potter series. I just love those books (as can be seen from the state of them).

Karen | 120 comments Had a bit of a reading session, but literally just finished Biohazard The Chilling True Story of the Largest Covert Biological Weapons Program in the World--Told from the Inside by the Man Who Ran It by Ken Alibek - really good book, and surprisingly eye-opening in a way.

Now reading something a little lighter - The Visitor (Jack Reacher, #4) by Lee Child , as my new role at work is taking its toll on my brain cell...

I'm currently reading the Stephen King ebook releases. There are four of them -- Ur, A Face in the Crowd, Mile 81 and In The Tall Grass. I finished Ur and A Face in the Crowd over the weekend -- both reminded me exactly how much I enjoy a bit of King! Lots of twists and turns make for really great short stories! I'll be starting one of the remaining two tonight, and maybe Gone Girl if I download it when I get home.

I'm also reading Art and Lies by Jeanette Winterson at work on a lunch time. I can't say I'm really ejoying it. It's very odd and fragmented, although there are parts that just seem like absolute genius. I can't wait to see how it all comes together -- that's what's keeping me going with it!

Your genius comment really intrigues me - did you finish reading?

The Hand maid's tale. Very gripping. The most thought provoking novel I've read in a long time. Also one of the scariest, horrific ideas. Hope is keeping be reading, the hope that things may change. Eek!

I finished it. It does start to come together towards the end, and you see how the characters are linked. I'm not sure that I really understood what happened on the train...or whether they were never really on a train at all and the whole thing was just a metaphor for life? I think that might be nearer the truth. It was intriguing, let's say that!

I am halfway through The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan and I am enjoying it although it seems very similar to the geisha books I have read. My in laws are visiting so I am mainly reading very late at night when they are in bed :)

I'm awful at the moment, I actualy have 5 books that I am halfwayish through and dipping in and out of!
3 from my reading challenge list and also The Girl with All the Gifts and The Invisible Library
It's making it all much slower going so I must really concentrate on finishing some, I've just been in the mood for something different every time I pick my kindle up.

I started Cold Sassy Tree / Leaving Cold Sassy by Olive Ann Burns (bought this hardcover edition) and I was really getting through it and then I didn't read it for a couple of days and it's been weeks now. Considering leaving it for now to get back to my list after seeing how well Jo is doing :)

bookishbat (morgaine_cat) | 90 comments hello again, and a happy 2016 to all of you!

I just started How to Build a Girl How to Build a Girl by Caitlin Moran by Caitlin Moran, which I got for christmas.

I've previously read How to be a Woman How to Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran and Moranthology Moranthology by Caitlin Moran by her and enjoyed them both, I like her sense of humour and her way of writing, so I'm hoping to really like this.

Aimee (smiley_laydee) | 92 comments Currently trying to read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy as it is a personal goal of mine. I like to read the book generally before seeing the films but I tried to do this many moons ago and failed with LOTR.

Are we still doing group reads?
