Adam | 95 comments As we know Rothfuss is a genius word smith, nothing he does is with out purpose, in the book, and on the map there is a lack of certain information that would really help us piece together certain things, obviously this is deliberate.

Kvothe's current age: people from Newarre who we know are middle age refer to him as being half their age, yet he refers to himself as old constantly, I place him at 25, but it's hard to tell, people also refer to him as boy.
Chronicler's age: I posted about this in the Chronicler thread, so I won't repeat information, but there are a lot of this that make his age confusing.
Nowarre's Location: I think it's in Vintas (because of the King, and use of nobles as currency), but on the KKC wikia pages it says it's in the Commonwealth. I think Newarre is based on "no where," but travelers pass through it enough, so it can't be that remote.
Places missing from the map: There are a number of important places missing from the map, like Severen, Nowarre, Haert, and Trebon.

Why is this information withheld?

Linda | 3 comments Hello, I am new to the forum with both days of the chronicle in my head now. I love a book with a map and was very annoyed that someone made a lovely map and did not finish it. Maybe the next book could correct somethings? Please?

Emily McClintock | 8 comments Kvothe's current age: I can't get rid of the idea that maybe Kvothe spends more time in the Fae and that accounts for his feeling so old.

message 4: by Adam (new)

Adam | 95 comments Yeahh I thought he spent more time in the Fae and that were just 3-4 real world years away from the current time in which he's telling the narrative to Chronicler.
But I mostly attribute his feelings of old age to depression, exhaustion, lack of sleep, and stewing in profound melancholy in pair with his extensive knowledge, and the fact that he's lived/experienced enough to be four old men.
He's described as looking young, I wonder if aging in the fae causes the person to look older.

Gavin Where is Kote and bast? Somewhere near the mtns. i think, on account of the scrael incident.

Adam | 95 comments Newarre, I believe it is in Vintas based on the use of nobles, and talk of he penitent king. I've heard people say it's in the Commonwealth but that's doubtful saying they use Atturan currency and don't have a king.

I think Nowarre could be in the tiny untitled country between Vintas and Modeg. Other than being untitled, it also borders the Stormwall Mtns (I remember something about the Scrael already over the mtns)

It's the red one on the map.

I had the same guess. Tinue is due south of it, and he asks Chronicler how the road to Tinue is.
