Melissa Hi. One of my favorite type of book to read is books about arranged marriages or couples having to Marry because of circumstance. Some of my favorites are The Princess by Wick, Love Comes Softly, Kiss of a Stranger, Shackles of Honor and Heavenly Surrender by McClure. But to find CLEAN books like this is very hard. It can be Fantasy, Sci-fi, Western, Historical, YA or any other. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Convenient Marriage and Friday's Child, both by Georgette Heyer, are two of my favorites. The Reluctant Widow, also by Georgette Heyer, is an interesting twist on the convenient marriage theme. All CLEAN. :-)

I have read Loyalty's Web, and the Stranger she married and loved them. I would love to try some of these others you have recommended. Would you mind adding the author? There are so many books named Heartless...I didn't know which one you meant. Also, I couldn't find anything under Importance of Almacks. Thanks so much for the help.
....and Melissa once again we are on the same page:) I love these type of books too and LOVE the ones you mentioned! Can't wait to read The Princess by Wick. That one I haven't read. Also, Joyce, thanks for the Heyer recommendations. I've been wanting to try hers but now I know which ones to start with:)

Melissa The Importance of Almack's by Denise Patrick, Loyalty's Web, and A Stranger She Married I have read but the others I am going to go buy. Most are amazon kindle under 5 dollar reads. But I do need the Heartless books author too. Thanks Kathy! Heidi The Almacks book is an Amazon kindle. It's funny that the three of you that have commented are my friends! And Joyce I love your books! I am reading Dangerous Favor right now. Love Goodreads!

Darcy Flynn (darcyflynn) | 59 comments I read my first romance when I was fifteen. It was Devil's Cub by Georgette Heyer! I've never looked back! I've read everyone of her books, some four and five times. I can highly recommend any of her Regency romances. Clare Darcy is another who wrote in Georgette's vein. She was not as prolific of a writer but any of her Regency's are wonderful!

Melissa Thanks Darcy. I just love your name!

Kathy * Bookworm Nation | 62 comments Heartless is by Jaimey Grant, it's a little more on the serious side, regency setting...

Rina | 7 comments I just finished reading Wagered Heart by Robin Lee Hatcher and it fits right into this category. Clean and they have to marry because of circumstances.
Another great book is The Rose-Garden Husband by Margaret Widdemer, written in 1915. And it's available as a free ebook several places!

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Thanks Rina! Just downloaded it for FREE! how awesome is that. And my library has the other one so I'll be in Heaven for awhile!

Alyssa | 4 comments @ Rina, thanks for recommending The Rose Garden Husband, I downloaded for free and it was a quick (80pages?) and delightful read.

Hi Alyssa, glad you liked it! I'm not sure why it's 80 pages as an e-book since my copy (from 1915) is 208 pages. Though the pages do have wide margins all around, maybe that's why. In any case, I'm glad that it's available and can still be enjoyed!

Marie | 12 comments Hey, I have a question. I have heard mixed views on the cleanliness of the City of Bones book/Mortal Instruments Series. I am interested in reading it unless it is not clean. If someone could kind of tell me how clean these books are exactly, that would be wonderful. And sorry if this is the wrong place to put a question. I'm new and this is my first "real" post.

message 18: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I have read them and can tell you that the Infernal Devices series she wrote is cleaner, because it takes place a long time ago. The problem with the Mortal instruments is that they are modern day kids who talk like modern day kids. There are a couple swear words and there is a gay relationship you don't hear about much till you get to the latter books, but even than she doesn't go to into there relationship. The main love interest think they are brother and sister for the first two books and that put a lot of people off, I could tell write from the beginning that they would not be and I am telling you so that you won't get weird-ed out if you do decide to read them. There is kissing, but not much making out yet the 5th book is coming out in May so I don't know what that has in it yet. They do want to go beyond making out but of cource lots of obsticals are in there way. There is some sexual innuendo but it is not bad. I would say it's like a pg 13 movie. There is a a lot of violence, but it's like twilight violence. Which is a good ruler, if you read the Twilight series these are ok up to what I have read. I put a content warning in all my reviews if you want to read threw them and find some good books. I like that type of book.

Thanks a ton! I really appreciate the help.

Cheryl Bolen | 22 comments I see a lot of you named Georgette Heyer's wonderful novels. She has certainly been in inspiration to me, a Regency author who's published more than a dozen books. Though neither a full-length novel, nor a print book, my recent 99-cebt Christmas novella (about a third the size of a book) titled CHRISTMAS AT FARLEY MANOR is an arranged marriage story. I suspect a lot of you found it because in December it made it to the number 1 ranking in historical at Amazon, though it's availble in all ereader formats. (I have written many other marriage-of-convenience stories, but to suit New York publishing rather than me, they were not "clean."

message 22: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 43 comments Cheryl, I just had a friend on Goodreads recommend your books to me just yesterday...I would love to read ones that are clean. Do you have a website or is there somewhere I could find out which ones fall into the clean genre. Thanks so much.

message 23: by Donna (new)

Donna | 41 comments Love this topic! Here's some more recomends: Scottish Marriage and Dual Destiny--Karen Lynn (most of these in library), the stranger she married--donna hatch, Seeking Persephone and To Kiss a Stranger--Sarah eden, The widowers wife--Prudence Bice, Maggies Mistake and Augusta--Carolyn Brown, the highlander series--Marti Talbott. Thanks for the many great suggestions!
Donna

Cheryl Bolen | 22 comments Thanks for the comment, Heidi. I hate to keep plugging my books on this loop. Though I've published more than a dozen books, many in print as well as ebook, I've only written three that are in the Georgette Heyer "clean" mode, and only one of them is full length. All three are only available in ebook formats. The full book is titled THE EARL'S BARGAIN. The other two are novellas (one-third to one-fourth the size of a novel). They are LADY SOPHIA'S JOURNEY and CHRISTMAS AT FARLEY MANOR. All of just 99-cents. You can visit my website at www.CherylBolen.com.

message 25: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I really liked Christmas at Farley Manor I thought it was sooo sweet. It was just what I wanted! I'll have to go check the others out, some times I just need a short little pick me up!

message 26: by Melissa (new)

Melissa It's Lady Sophia's Rescue not Journey on Amazon. That is what it says, I would not correct an author, maybe amazon made a mistake;]

message 27: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Bolen | 22 comments You're right! I don't know where I got the "Journey" from! Thanks for the kind words about Christmas at Farley Manor. I just adore marriage of convenience stories. Most of my print books were that kind of story.

Kathy * Bookworm Nation | 62 comments I just read The Heart's Warrior by Leigh Bale, it's an arranged marriage story that's a lot if fun!
