Kristen (kristen120378) Nice! When did Goodreads turn into a dating site...

message 3: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments Dating...and something more sounds like

:(

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Hmmm... I wonder what's the real scam here. Like what if you'd emailed her? You think she woulda asked you for money?

Did she have a GR profile, or just a no-face, standard-issue brown silhouette?

(I wish GoodReads was a dating site. If I could find an honest to goodness LITERATE boyfriend, I think I'd die and go to heaven! hahahahaha)

message 5: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments :) Amanda!

LOL

If only!

message 6: by Thauna (new)

Thauna LOL, a literate boyfriend, I'd like one of those too!

message 7: by Holli (new)

Holli That is seriously just ....weird. And creepy. Did you report her/them/him to Otis at Goodreads?

message 8: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Yeah, flag her ass!

(If I see a pack of literate men walking around, I'll point 'em over here, y'all!)

message 9: by Tera, First Chick (new)

Tera | 2564 comments Mod
Maybe we could start a shoot off group like us only called Dudes on Words or Bros on Books for ya and we could scout their threads for literate men ;)

message 10: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Your genius strikes again!

message 11: by Meg (new)

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I love that Tera. But, isn't a literate man an oxymoron? I am so mean.

Holli -- who is Otis?

message 12: by Holli (new)

Holli LMAO Meg.....too funny!!!

Otis is the creator of Goodreads. If you go to the section in "my account" for blocked members I think there is a place for you to flag them as well. If you do that Otis or someone sees it and I guess they kick them off or something.

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Amanda, I've got a literate husband and he's still a pain in the arse!

Meg, thanks for the warning and given the creepyness factor here, I'd report this to GoodReads and flag this person. It seems to go a bit beyond the dating/personals thing - and if someone is silly enough to email this person back, it could be a way for this person to send a virus back or hack into someone's ip address/computer!

message 14: by Sonja (new)

Sonja (crvena_sonja) | 305 comments With any luck they're all hiding in corners reading something highly literate and obscure. They do not travel in packs, that is why they are harder to locate...

message 15: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments So, my expectations are too high, then...?
;)

message 16: by Lynlee4 (new)

Lynlee4 | 99 comments lol-y'all are too funny! I love the Bros on Books!

message 17: by Meg (new)

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Well I reported it, I will let you know if I get any information from them.

message 18: by Someone (new)

Someone Youmayknow (momar13) Oh Amanda...the literate male...let me tell you a story.

I was in love with, no wait I still am in love with a truly literate man. That's actually what brought us together is books. We discussed books all of the time. We loved movies we never fought.

But, yes, there is always a but isn't there, he lives 2 and a half hours away from me, so, 6 weeks ago he decided he'd had enough of that.

End of literate male and literate female happy ending.

message 19: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Long distance broke you up? WHAT? That's bullshit! I'm so mad now. Stupid jerks.

message 20: by Tera, First Chick (new)

Tera | 2564 comments Mod
Literate men exist. Don't you always hear how they read Playboy for the articles?

message 21: by Lynlee4 (new)

Lynlee4 | 99 comments rofl tera

message 22: by Sonja (new)

Sonja (crvena_sonja) | 305 comments HAHA! Of course... its because of the articles that the magazine comes wrapped in plastic. Must be top secret guy stuff...

message 23: by Thauna (last edited Dec 04, 2008 12:07PM) (new)

Thauna LOL....my literate man (sad) story...the first gift he gave me was The Bridges of Madison County. Need I say more? It was a cosmic clue of what was to come. (gender roles were reversed from the book)

message 24: by Kristen (last edited Dec 04, 2008 09:54AM) (new)

Kristen (kristen120378) My boyfriend is so not-literate (god love him, he does have other great qualities though), that on Tuesday I was at his place and he was going to take a shower. I decided to take the opportunity to lay and read in the 10 minutes I had alone. He's walking into the bathroom and glances over at me while I'm reading on his bed and give me this puzzled look. I ask "What?" and he said "You brought a book to my place?". I said "Yes, I always care it around with me, because I never know when I'll have opportunity to read". He says "Wow, you are the first woman that I've ever actually seen reading in my house". Yeah, that just gives you a great picture of who he has dated in the past...LOL

HERE'S YOUR SIGN!

message 25: by Thauna (new)

Thauna LOL, Kristen that is funny!

message 26: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments Maureen. I am sad for you!

You need this book. Write It Down Make It Happen: Knowing What You Want And Getting It

OK but you actually have to DO what she says. It worked for me. And I had some crazy things on my "wanted" list. Like I want to work less hours (lots less) and make more money. I want to be thru w/commuting forever. Etc Etc. And it worked.

If it worked for me, it can work for you. Seriously. get that book!

And all you other chicks. You too!

It's a life changer.

Hell I should take my own advice and re-read it.

message 27: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Laura, did you write a review for the book? Tell us your story!

message 28: by Thauna (new)

Thauna Yes, please tell us your story Laura. I added it to my TBR.

message 29: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments Well that is pretty much the whole story - but add "I want to have my own business" to it. And that's pretty much it. And they all happened. I'm gonna say within 1-2 years, everything on the list that was big came true.

message 30: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments Isn't it weird how this thread began, and where it is now??

message 31: by Holli (new)

Holli My boyfriend has never actually sat down and read a book in his life. Honestly. Parts of it maybe, Cliff Notes for sure, a magazine, but no books. He just doesn't think its fun and really doesn't get why i do it all day but the important thing is that he doesn't mind that I'm doing it. So we work. ;)

message 32: by Holli (new)

Holli I'm TBRing that book right now Laura. If it works miracles I'm doin' it. sign me up!

message 33: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannah7299) | 303 comments I added it too Laura, thanks! I also have a vision board that has already worked for me with several things I posted on it. :)

message 34: by Thauna (new)

Thauna Yeah, for Vision Boards...I have one for the past two years, and several things on them have come into my life. How cool, it's almost time to do another! :o)

message 35: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments OK What is a Vision Board? I am totally clueless on that, but it sounds good!

message 36: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Kristen, I always carry a book with me also. You never know when you'll be stuck somewhere for awhile and can use that time to read!

My boyfriend is also a non-reader. I took him to the library and picked out a book that I thought he'd like. When I showed it to him he looked at me and said, "What am I supposed to do with that?" :) At least he leaves me alone when he sees me with a book in my hand.

message 37: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (missbrittany) | 336 comments awww. you girls are funny!

i guess i've got it pretty good. DH doesn't read for fun, but he was open to reading Five Love Languages with me... and has gone so far as to read it to me each night while i take a bubble bath. :)

message 38: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 111 comments I was cracking up all through reading the postings in this thread. Tera, I too loved the oxymoron comment. LOL! Vision boards, great idea. Laura, I'm going to look up that book. Thanks.

message 39: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments Sure Kathy! Glad to help.

Brittany - Aw...mine skimmed it, but I love that. Read it to you each night during a bubble bath. Wow. See, I would so want to jump my husband if he did that. That is too hot. In a warm and cozy way.

message 40: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments Almost hearkens me back to the description of a freshly roasted weenie!

LOL

message 41: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (missbrittany) | 336 comments Laura- lol! Problem is, we now know FOR SURE that we have VERY different love languages... He is Acts of Service/Words of Affirmation, and I am Physical Touch/Quality Time, and we both buy each other too many gifts even though neither of us find it's our Love Languages! :)

message 42: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments OMG mine and his are totally diff. too. His is Service and Time, mine are Words and Touch. I wish we were the same, it would be so much better I think. I am a very huggy person and I live in a house of non huggers, and I can say that sucks. But my husband has learned over the years to be more and more of a hugger. I just wish he would love it the way I do.

message 43: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (missbrittany) | 336 comments I know what you mean, chick. I wish he enjoyed touchy-feeley like I do! I can do the Acts and Words thing, but it takes more effort for him to speak my language.

message 44: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments yes. for me he wants me to clean. I hate to clean, but have to remember its his language. this is hard for me, but I'm working on it.

message 45: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristen120378) No, Ashley, I'm like that too. Not that I don't like to touch my bf, but he's much more touchy-feely than I am. He likes to sleep cuddled up (where I'm a "don't touch me, I need space, sleeper"), & he likes to kiss and touch me in public (which I'm getting more used to but I feel strange about it). I've never read the book you are all referring to, but I'd say just by what you all have said I'd be Service and Quality Time and he'd be Touch and Words. I don't know why I'm not touchy-feely (no abuse in my past) but I've never been a clingy, touchy person.

message 46: by Holli (new)

Holli I am Words and Quality Time and my boyfriend is Service and Gifts. We are both touchy-feely so we don't differ there ;)

message 47: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 111 comments Laura, I'm a big hugger, too. My husband and daughter are not, but my son is, so at least I have one person in the family that hugs freely. I hug friends and extended family on a regular basis, like a hello. I think most people are fine with it, or maybe they just haven't told me to back off. My wonderful, beautiful daughter has told me that she really isn't into me hugging her a lot. She's a lovely person, just not a hugger. My husband, like yours, has learned to tolerate hugging.

message 48: by Meg (new)

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments My reply from goodreads..........
Hi Meg,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. That scammer has been deleted from Goodreads.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you won't hold it against us!

cheers,
Tessa

message 49: by Holli (new)

Holli Awesome!! I love this site.... :)

message 50: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1445 comments YAY and look what a cool conversation she generated with her scammer-grinchy-ness!

:)
