Once I buy a book, and I own thousands, I think it's implied that I'm going to read it, so I don't add it to the list.

At the moment my list counts something like 80 books - I have maybe 15 of them already on my shelves. I´m always a little careful with what I add. If there are tons of books I´d like to read and never will, what good would it do but to annoy me?
For me; I have two "to be read" lists; one is full of the books I own and need to read and the other is my dumbing ground

I'm trying to whittle down the number on my to read shelf because some have been there for many years already!

Just think of how many more I could get through if I didn't have to work...or sleep.

Mine is a dumping ground as I find books I want to read, but I like the way KL has his set up with two lists, as it makes it easier to buy him gifts. Goodness knows I can't remember everything we actually own

It's really helpful too - before GR I kept track on slips of paper, notepads, etc.

Before I joined GR I tried to keep a mental note, but this way is much easier and takes up less shelf space in my head. I do remember books I want to read, but I don't go looking for them by the order of the list.
I try to keep my TBR way shorter than my Read list. At the moment I have about 100 books more on the read list.

I don't know, I still like my iPad as a reader but I'm always carrying my kindle to work.

Probably better discussed in the appropriate thread anyway - http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...

Wasn't planning on discussing it, I was making a broad statement

I keep a separate list of books I've been wanting to get around to [that I own] and that's about 130 long now I think.

This.
I have a long "wishlist" at Audible, some of which overlaps with my TBR list here. A huge pile of stuff that I own that overlaps a bit with the TBR list here, but not the one at Audible (because once you own it, it's off the wishlist/possible buys). I also have a huge list of books combined from 1001 books and several other "must read" lists (Grauniad 1000 novels, Time, etc). Somewhere, possibly, I have an old list of "sleepers" - you know books you've never heard of but are great. I've been thinking about putting together a prize winners list, too.
There is no one list. The lists I do have are a lifetime's worth of reading and just keep getting longer.

It's a pretty rubbish system but they should all eventually get read. And judging by the speed I read books that'll probably be 9000 fucking years. >:(

We'll see how long that lasts..

My Goodreads list is at 192. I seriously would like to read all the books I have listed.

I have a TRB list here on goodreads, but also a mental TBR list of books I know I want to read. Those are usually the ones sitting on my actual shelf at home.

I used to get stressed if it got too big but not now. Having said that, I'd not like to see it over 600 or so.

Funniest of all, to me, is the reason I joined gr in the first place, was to try and organize all my books. Ha!
