Editorial Reviews
Review
"The Hunger Pains really struck a chord with me." —Kantkiss, protagonist of The Hunger Pains
"Instead of the Bible, rooms should come with a copy of The Hunger Pains." —Sheraton Hotel Memo
"This book makes me wish I'd never been shot." —Abraham Lincoln
"The book always falls through my hands, but in an undeniably funny way." —A Ghost

I think that's part of its appeal, though, as it has been with most "fluffy" pop culture. The story's simple, plays on a theme that's familiar (that's never been successful to this level), and features young people.
I don't mean to belittle the book by calling it fluffy, as sometimes that's what the palate wants, but I do feel your pain, a bit. I just can't get annoyed by it all because I'm looking forward to seeing John Carter; I am complicit.

Hunger Pains is just food porn,

It's not the best book I've ever read but it was pretty good and I can understand exactly why it appeals to my daughter and all her friends who she has encouraged to read it.
I'm happy for its success (honestly, I enjoyed 1&2 even if I hated Katniss) and all but its almost getting absurd. I just saw the parody for the first time yesterday. The Hunger Pains: A Parody and with the movie coming out I don't see any sign it this ending.
I guess I simply feel like ranting my annoyance that such a simple book can go on and on as it has.
