The Sword and Laser discussion

This book and its three sequels have been bestsellers for years. Book One has been in the top kindle books for almost two years and the audiobook and paperback are no less so. Even Harry Potter seemed to only be popular in bursts.

I'm happy for its success (honestly, I enjoyed 1&2 even if I hated Katniss) and all but its almost getting absurd. I just saw the parody for the first time yesterday. The Hunger Pains: A Parody and with the movie coming out I don't see any sign it this ending.

I guess I simply feel like ranting my annoyance that such a simple book can go on and on as it has.

I think that's part of its appeal, though, as it has been with most "fluffy" pop culture. The story's simple, plays on a theme that's familiar (that's never been successful to this level), and features young people.

I don't mean to belittle the book by calling it fluffy, as sometimes that's what the palate wants, but I do feel your pain, a bit. I just can't get annoyed by it all because I'm looking forward to seeing John Carter; I am complicit.

Yeah, some people have said the trilogy was terribly writren kind of like what others have said about the Twilight Saga.

I can't offer a really thought out opinion on this conversation, but I will say that the Hunger Games crossed a line when I noticed my mom had a copy of it.

I've read it, my daughter has read it and as we are now planning a trip to see the film together my mother wants to read it to see what all the fuss is about.
It's not the best book I've ever read but it was pretty good and I can understand exactly why it appeals to my daughter and all her friends who she has encouraged to read it.
