I couldn't stand Bella in the book. Even more so in the movies. She's keenly aware that her feelings for Edward are probably nothing more than him being a vampire and that's how they lure in their victims, but she doesn't do anything about it. She's way too weak of a character to be interested in.
And there are WAY too many contrivances in the story. She happens to go shopping in Seattle and happens to get lost and happens to find herself in the cliché situation of being surrounded by thugs and Edward just happens to find her and rescue her. That's the other thing for me. She was the constant damsel in distress. She had no control over her emotions or situations. I get she's a teenager and everything but she had no real strong sense of self.
Don't even get me started on the baseball thing. And how convenient it was that that's what introduced an actual threat to Bella. Until then, there's no real conflict. Not for Bella anyway. Sure, Edward might turn her into a vampire — but he won't. So there goes that conflict. Oh, but the Cullens might not like her. No, they're cool, so there goes that conflict. Oh, but there's Jacob. Except that's really a conflict between him and Edward, and even then we know Bella is going to end up with Edward so there goes that conflict. And THEN there's the conflict between the werewolves and the vampires. It has nothing to do with Bella. She is just kind of on the sidelines for that one. So there goes THAT conflict. So when Steph finally DOES introduce a character that's bent on killing Bella, it's 3/4 into the book and what does Steph have Bella do? HIDE! We spend two chapters with Bella in a hotel room in Arizona on the phone being told what's going on. Are you kidding? That could be the most exciting part of the book and Steph takes her main character out of it completely! Couldn't stand it.
Couldn't bring myself to read the rest of the series. In fact, my dislike of Twilight inspired me to write my own paranormal romance series so my daughter would have something better to read.
No offense to anyone who liked it. Glad you did. I know Stephanie is glad you did. And authors like me are actually glad you did because it blew this genre wide open for us. These are just my issues with Twilight.

Twilight's still awesome tough.

Some people say the books are not well written and are cheesy. Well the millions of copies sold prove otherwise, and if you personally enjoy it and it gives you pleasure to me the book has done its job.
So my rating of the whole Twilight series is I loved it, I think I might just start reading all over again!

Gladly, the next movies got better and better :) And luckily, I finished the whole series even before the movie came out wiiiw

Bad characters, and horrid vampires. I remember trying to point people towards Mead and other authors and I'd get my head bitten off. And my reviews would get taken of Amazon. (Even though they were polite.) I still feel a little bitter now that everytime I say I like paranormal books people say Twilight. Meyer was not even close to the first, she was just what introduced a lot of readers to the genre.
Funny enough I don't mind watching the movies. More for laughs and some of the man candy.

I'm a little confused. You said that the ending of the series was a disappointment, but how would you know that if you had 'no interest in continuing the series'? Did you watch Breaking Dawn or something?

Yes,I watched all the movies

Ok, I had the same problem. Except that when I was 10/11, somewhere around there, I loved the movies and the books. Now, I hate both the movies and the books.

I have only read the first book now, I am half way through New Moon, I already love it! I won't rest in peace until I complete the series! :)

I totally agree with you. The hype is what made it so popular and what made so many people fall in love with it the first time. I tried to reread it and realized it sounded like a wattpad book! so crazy to me that I genuinely thought it was good writing. Can appreciate the idea, but I agree that Bella is a very uninteresting and stereotypical female character.

Hey There!
I hope you and your family is safe during this time of crisis. I recently made an online book chatting website called- http://book-talks.com. Book-Talks is a platform where passionate readers like you and me and book readers from around the world can come and chat about their favourite books. For e.g. If you’ve read twilight then why not live chat about the book with readers who have read the same book – share your thoughts on the book, the best moments and scenes in the book, post a fan edit for a part of the book you liked or disliked or even share some real-life experiences that you can easily relate with the book. I really really wish you would check Book-Talks and contribute in its aim for connecting book readers all over the world. Lastly, as said by Lloyd Alexander books are the best form of an adventure then why not share your adventure with others and also be of their adventures.
(PS: Thank you for spending your precious time reading this message. Everyone starts with that one subscriber, one follower and today I am doing that with my site so the biggest thank you to the very first visitors of my website. I Pinkie Promise that you will love Book-Talks and Book-Talks loves you back for visiting it.... Thanks again!! Have a wonderful day!)

After that I want to read ''The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner'', ''Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined'' and ''Minight Sun''.

I agree with what others says that Bella's obsession with Edward is creepy and I found their relationship kinda toxic like they can't spend one day apart without feeling miserable
When I read Twilight I loved the series but I think I just can't bring myself to reread now that I know how much I hate Jacob and how toxic the relationship between Bella and Edward is. I loved when I read it but I just wouldn't reread it.
Also I think major turning point was when in the fourth book u realise that all of Jacob's love towards Bella was for an unborn child. like that really pissed me ofs as even though I hated Jacob I liked how protective he was towards Bella
I got into this series when I was 17 and love the romance between Bella and Edward. I particularly enjoyed recently reading "Midnight Sun" which is "Twilight" from Edward's perspective. It was so different and made me see parts of the book in a different light.

IMO, the books—and thus likely the author's skill—improved from book to book. And, I read The Host and the latest independent book, The Chemist, which both show a maturing of the writing.
On the characters: Bella was overly dependent on Edward, and Edward did not really exhibit the emotional maturity of someone more than a century old, but hey, it was all in good fun and (as I said) I enjoyed the books.

and in my opinion it is no more , no less.
But it didn't stand the test of time for most people when we started realizing that a story should do atleast a bit more than being just a timepass.......... Again more and more started realizing that Bella........(cough)
And in my opinion this is a series which showcases stupid teenagers making stupid desicions. THIS is not what is wrong.
But there are more things a book could offer than just being the wishful thinking of a teenage girl to become 'good'
Also the fact that Edward liked bella because he wanted to eat her didnt help

The characters could have been sketched more deeply and Meyer should have taken some time to analyze Bella and her character. There is hardly any positive quality about Bella except for the fact that she is ready to sacrifice herself for others. Which in my opinion is kind of stupid at times and many a times Bella is even selfish. Edward quite creepy and he stalked Bella before they even knew each other properly. The only character I found nice was Jacob Black.
Twilight also has numerous plot holes which would take a lot of time to list down, so I am not doing that. But anyone can easily see those glaring plot holes when they read the books.
I get that Meyer has tried to create a better image of vampires, but making them "sparkle" kind of drains all the scariness associated with these creatures. Also, I found the idea of vampires playing baseball quite hilarious, to be honest.
There are a dozen more things wrong with Twilight, but I am not wasting my time listing them down. And I personally would'nt reccomend Twilight to anyone, especially not young girls, to whom Twilight gives a very wrong message( Find an Edward and your life is perfect. Be wholly dependent on your Edward and don't stand on your own two feet).

Massive Twilight fan here. It's one of those books that I couldn't put down. I've already read Midnight Sun several times as well and enjoyed the insight it gave us into the story. It was interesting seeing things from another perspective, as Bella's so down on herself it's hard to see how strong she is, although you can't deny she's brave. And stubborn.

You r so right. I agree with everything u said Stormy
