Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments In working on the A-Z Super series challenge and 2012 end of series countdown, I wanted to see how many unfinished series I have and shockingly (I still have a hard time believing it..) I have 222 series that are not finished since I started keeping track on goodreads!! What have I been reading?!? I am going to have to try to stop jumping into every series I come across until I work on that number. Do you guys end up with such high numbers? I wasn't even close to the number of series I thought I hadn't finished!

D.G. | 4477 comments Wow, Hina! Are those series you are thinking of finishing?

In my case, I'm very picky of series I continue. Right now (according to Fict Fact), I have around 50 active series and now that I'm checking the list, I decided not to continue reading some of them so they are even less. :)

Sadly, I think there are about only 4-5 series that I wouldn't pursue, but the rest I want to finish. So far most seems like I couldn't find the book at my library and I didn't love the series enough to purchase the book, and most of the others was that I liked it and read it and never got time to go back and keep reading.
It seems like where you are picky, I am a totally shameless about series!! lol

Iris (ipro) | 277 comments And I thought I was bad! When I signed up to do that challenge I sat down and started going through my list of series I've already started thinking I was going to have a hard time coming up with 12 series to finish. Imagine my surprise when I realized that I had already reached 20 and wasn't even done going through my original list of books read! You're right though... first thing through my head at that point was "what have I been reading all this time?" lol

Barbara ★ | 3901 comments A few months ago I made myself a tracker of all the series that I am in the middle of. There were so many that I had to split the trackers between paranormal, mystery and romance and there are over 500 series listed. And I have a tracker called "series to start" which easily has another 150. More recently I've started listed them all at FictFact and I only have the paranormal complete and already 407 series.

I'm not picky about what I will start but if it sucks, I'm quick to drop it. With the amount of books available, why suffer through a crappy one when you can just turn around and grab something else.

If you're interested here's the link to my group with my trackers

D.G. | 4477 comments I hope you read fast, Hina if you want to read all those series. ;)

I'm like that Barbara...I try almost every series that comes highly recommended but only continue those that really call out to me. And I can drop a series at anytime if I find that I don't like how it's developing.

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments D.G.:
Here I thought I was doing a good job pacing my reading...lol. For me it has to be truly truly terrible for me not to continue. Its like a part of me thinks, just maybe (or by some miracle) the series will take a better turn..that's why I have only a handful of series I wouldn't continue.

Barbara:
Wow 500!! Here I am worried about ~200. I sent a request to join your group,it sounds interesting and I will check out FictFact. I have been here a lot about it recently.

Iris:
I am glad I wasn't the only one who had that thought! lol. It does make me wonder what I was doing for this long and really why didn't I read the series I started. After I reached around ~90 for unfinished series, I just kept going out of morbid curiosity, just had to know.

Lauren (aplpeach) (aplpeach) | 176 comments Where are you guys going to keep track and get the number of series you are reading?

Well the ladies introduced me to the site www.fictfact.com/ that keeps track of all the series, but I noticed it doesn't show books that are not published yet which I want to keep track of since the series is technically not finished. So far I had them all written down by series name , but I am thinking of just making an excel file to keep track of them for myself and notations on the series that still have books being published.

D.G. | 4477 comments FF shows books that are not published yet as long as the book title/pub date has been announced. If you click on any series name, then you'll find all past and future books there.

Now, if an author says 'this is the first book in a series of 17', I think her future plans are not taken into account in FF, unless the author has pub dates/names for the 17 books.

Lauren (laurenjberman) @Hina - if you know of a book that the author has announced but not yet published, you can submit a recommendation to Fictfact and they will add it. They are really good about this and do it fairly quickly.

According to my Fictfact list, I have 53 series in progress, 30 not yet started and 32 completed. I don't force myself to keep going with a series if I'm not enjoying it.

Lauren (aplpeach) (aplpeach) | 176 comments As of now, since I just started putting books in I have 40 series that i need to work on and have read a total of 224 books between 2011 and now.

message 13: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments D.G. - yes the title and pub date has been announced but I couldn't find, so I will take Lauren's suggestion and submit a rec to be added in. Thanks Lauren!

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments An update: I managed to finish 7 series out 222, but also managed to add three more series in. :)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I have a ton of unfinished series too. I don't know hte count. I normally don't read a series all at once. But I'm trying to get somewhat into that habit. At least with the series I know I like and have several books for already.

I was even tempted to box up all my books but a few series of different genres to force me to finish some up. But I don't have anywhere to put the boxed up books but on my bookshelves.

Jennifer The Forgetful Fairy Queen (TheForgetfulFaerieQueen) | 38 comments Wow OVER 200 series!! Girl WhAT have you been reading!?
I think I am at like 20 maybe. I seem to get into book 4 or 5 on a series then seem to forget about them. LOL
I do eventually go back. I wish you luck on getting through your series, and Happy Reading!!

Thanks, I think I read too much and then too many of them are series....But I am trying to get it down but I am adding as much as I am taking out. I can't seem to help it. LOL.

I'm with you, I'm very picky on what I read. Unfortunetly, I backed myself in a corner. I'm completing a grammer course, in my 5th week, 1 more week to go, and signed myself two more writing courses while trying to write my 2nd book book. Don't even get me started on what else I'm doing.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I was updating my fictfact.com account the other day and there was like 300 series on my list. Of course a lot of them are done or I haven't started yet. So it's not like I'm actively reading that many. But I bet it's over 100. I went through and deleted a bunch where I had just read book 1 and wasn't wowed.

But I am trying to get into the habit of reading a whole series at once or at least a few in a row. It's not working out that well but that's mostly because of challenges.
