Adelia (adelia1234) | 1 comments Hello everybody! So as you obviously read I'm looking for books where the main character can read minds. That's pretty much all I have for parameters. Thank you so much for reading this and even more thanks if you suggest some books! Have fun reading.

Kristen (kristen8) | 46 comments The first series that comes to mind for me, would be The Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris. I would try searching google or amazon for telepathy, mind-reading, clairvoyance + urban fantasy and see if you get any results that way.

In a quick search I found this fantasy series - (I have not read) Gatekeepers by Anthony Horowitz.

Dead Until Dark

Raven's Gate

Susan Stec (thegratefulundead) | 95 comments I was going to recommend Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series too. First in the series of 12 released, Dead Until Dark, Nook:

Also J R Rain's Moon Dance series, although Samantha doesn't master that skill until book three. First four books set, Samantha Moon(Vampire for Hire)$2.99 Nook:

Dreamcatcher? What'd I miss?

Nakeesha (ninkey) There's a great short story by by Sarah Alderson called "Catching Suki." Its a free download and I think its available on the goodreads site. Suki is really sassy and the writing is quick witted and hip.

Julia | 615 comments Alfred Bester pretty much wrote the first book on telepaths. It's The Stars My Destination sorry, The Demolished Man. It also won the first Hugo.

So much so that when J Michael Starczynski wanted to write about the head guy telepath on his wonderful sf series "Babylon 5" he named him Alfred Bester.

Also read OCTAVIA E BUTLER's Patternist series that begins with Wild Seed. Next is Mind of My Mind, Clay's Ark and Patternmaster. Or you may find them as Seed to Harvest.

Bester and Butler's telepaths are nothing like Sookie.

Shomeret | 233 comments Re first book on telepaths-- Slanby A.E. Van Vogt was published in 1946. There are two types of Slans. One type are telepaths. Science fiction fans used to identify with Slans. There was the saying "Fans are Slans".

Jalilah I second Sookie Stackhouse. Also Edward in Twilight can also read minds. Yes I KNOW that series is not popular in this forum, but I still thought it was good fun. Both series were a gateway in to Urban Fantasy for me. I have since discovered other authors I like even more.

Nakeesha (ninkey) Speaking of Edward in Twilight, on Stephanie Myers website she's posted the first couple of chapter of the book Midnight Sun which is from Edward's POV. It was really interesting and well written for an unedited first draft. You see him reading the minds of others in it.

I loved seeing the difference in the two versions - I actually use it in my classroom when I teach point of view.

Lauren Grimley (laurengrimley) | 8 comments I love this aspect of the Sookie books, as well as Twilight, so I actually included a character in my own book Unforeseen who's a mind reader (called a Knower in my series) and my main heroine (a Seer) can sense and manipulate others' emotions. It's as fun to write characters like this as it is to read about them. If you're still looking this summer when it's published, you can check it out.

Lauren Grimley (laurengrimley) | 8 comments Thanks, Jalilah! I now have a release date for Unforeseen of this Friday, April 27th! I love the speed of the e-pub world. So check it out on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
Unforeseen by Lauren Grimley

Kristen (kristen8) | 46 comments I haven't read this but found it by chance, it might be YA.. The Mind Readers

message 15: by Kal (new)

Kal The Chrysalids by John Wyndham for a standalone and Obernewtyn (Obernewtyn Chronicles, #1) by Isobelle Carmody for a series (apparently the last book in this series is coming out next year). Both have a post-apocalyptic setting.

Kristen (kristen8) | 46 comments I'm reading this dystopian trilogy right now, and the thoughts/noise of men & animals are heard by all.

The Knife of Never Letting Go
Monsters of Men
The Ask and the Answer

message 17: by Kal (new)

Kal @Kristen: Oh yeah, forgot about them. I've just read the first book and have been meaning to get around to the latter two. I remember that the first book felt very intense... with the main characters running from one catastrophe to another.

Mark (mark_n) | 14 comments Please forgive me, I mean not to be rude but the title of this thread has given me a great laugh, thank you.
Where you mean't to put " main character who is Telepathic " you actually put who is "telepathethic"
Take care, Mark :-)

message 19: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristen8) | 46 comments @Josh - how could you not pick up the next book with the ending in the The Knife of Never Letting Go? Granted it is a little intense and violent but for those who haven't read it, it's nicely done - it's a great adventure like Name of the Wind and Hunger Games minus the agnsty love triangle and sprinkled with relgious zealots who have a thou shalt kill commandment.

☀Rachael☀ (jimbunni) Mercy Hollins has a different spin on telepathy! Her books are Beg For Mercy (Mercy Hollings, #1) by Toni Andrews Cry Mercy (Mercy Hollings, #3) by Toni Andrews Angel of Mercy (Mercy Hollings, #2) by Toni Andrews

Becca Mills (beccamills) | 21 comments Kristen, thanks for the tip about the Ness books. I hadn't heard of them, and they look fantastic.

Wow. Good thing I'm almost all ebook these days. If my TBR were made of paper books, the fire department would be coming by to evict me as a hazard to the whole neighborhood!

message 22: by Cat (new)

Cat (shelfmotivatedbooks) | 20 comments The King Series is pretty good but definitely more YA. Waiting for the final book (#4) to be released.

message 24: by Nakeesha (new)

Nakeesha (ninkey) Try "Hunting Lila" and "Catching Suki" by Sarah Alderson. "Catching Suki is a short story and free download.
