message 63: by Cy (new)

Cy Helm | 69 comments Viewer poll! How many entries should we have? I think there are about 30 suggestions so far. I'm thinking 5-7.

I'd say 10, tops.

message 67: by CountZeroOr (new)

CountZeroOr (count_zero) | 71 comments I kinda feel like the name of the segment should have some sort of connection to the various Great Bars In SF & Fantasy (*echo effect*). You know, like the Vulgar Unicorn (Thieves' World - various authors), Callahan's Place (Callahan's Crosstime Saloon - Spider Robinson), The White Hart (Tales from the White Hart - Arthur C. Clarke), etc.

I get what you are saying, but those are all names of the bars and they are set on the name of their bar already. The segment name is a little different.

Is there a PO Box to send you guys stuff to try?

message 70: by Cy (new)

Cy Helm | 69 comments Two names have received 3 affirmations each:
Draught of the Day
Grog and Gargle-blasters

Three have a common feel to them:
What's In Our Flagon
What's In Your Goblet
What's In Your Vial

For the poll, let's combine the last three into "What's In Your [Flagon / Goblet / Vial].

Any others to add?

Straight. Simple. To the point. It may just catch on. :)

message 73: by Cy (new)

Cy Helm | 69 comments Here are the entries:

Buzzed Out Loud
Draught of the Day
Grog and Gargle-blasters
Veronica's Cellar
What Are You Drinking?
What's in Your [Flagon / Goblet / Vial]?

Like we say in South Texas, "Vote early; vote often. Death is no excuse."

message 79: by Cy (new)

Cy Helm | 69 comments Has anybody ever set up a Goodread poll? I created one, but it seemed that I needed to invite individuals to participate. With 8,000+ group members, I was totally daunted. I welcome suggestions.

message 81: by Dan (new)

Dan | 5 comments Does anyone else think "What are we drinking?" is good enough?

There is no need to carry the SFF theme into everything. And it seems to me its very very easy for this kind of thing to get groan-inducing and contrived.

Fresno Bob | 602 comments "Pick your Poison"

and yes Veronica, you were smart not to go from wine to absinthe, that sounds terrible, you should have started with an absinthe cocktail (champagne and absinthe) for S&L, then shifted to absinthe for your Vaginal Fantasy, in fact, that would be a good name for an absinthe drink.....

"Chug the Chalice"

Grok the Brew?

message 91: by Harold (new)

Harold Vance III (sensingplace) | 34 comments Is there an official poll going for this?

message 92: by Cy (new)

Cy Helm | 69 comments Funny you should ask, Harold. I just posted one as you were typing. It'll open tomorrow (5/23/12), if all goes well. I tried to create one a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't make it work. I'm open to any advice on this subject.

message 94: by Richard (last edited May 25, 2012 01:28PM) (new)

Richard | 221 comments drink name suggestions:

Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster (Hitchhikers Guide)
Romulan Ale (STOS)
Drunken Astronaut (Vodka & Tang)
Rocket to Saturn
Green Singularity
Fermi's Paradox (I like this one--a drink guaranteed to have you seeing aliens!)

I misread the thread concept as naming the drink, for naming the segment, I like Grog & Garglebasters suggested earlier.

message 95: by Harold (new)

Harold Vance III (sensingplace) | 34 comments Cy was kind enough to set up a poll here: http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/66...
Cast your vote, or forever hold your piece.

message 96: by Cy (new)

Cy Helm | 69 comments Tomorrow (5/29) is the last day the poll will be open. There's a write-in slot. FYI, this vote is not affiliated with the primary voting in Texas.

Cy Helm | 69 comments And the winner is....

Draught of the Day!

message 98: by Erick (new)

"Imbibe or Energize"?

Hard to think of a sci-fi equivalent.

I don't know about Total Recall, but the bar in Star Wars is only (so far as I know) called the Mos Eisley Cantina.

As for names, aside from the amazing "Grog and Gargle-blasters" I would like to proffer "Potions and Potables."
