A nightly Drink
For a long ponderous moment I could not digest,
The horrible thing that has just walked past.
I looked to the side racking my brain,
But the movement out there could not be explained.
Suddenly before me it rose from the mist,
All gory and decaying holding out a bone fist.
It's skin hung loose and it's eyes shot with blood
A nightmarish being from hell had been drug.
A scream tore from my lips piercing the night air,
And I knew I should die if I stayed standing there.
I turned and ran fear blinding my eyes,
While from behind came a breathless sigh.
Terror overtook me, my ears detected,
A scraping of foot-bone not fully connected.
A sob choked my throat as I knew with out doubt,
There was no escaping the thing from without.
I fell to my knees and cried out in fear,
While from my thin chest a heart it did tear.
Now I lay here bemoaning my fate,
Blood clotting and pooling covering my face.
I let out a last breath, my mind it did think,
If only I had NOT gone out for a drink.
