I'll try too but if it gets really good... ;)

It only recently became available for a printed copy, but all the talk was about Kindle because it was free for a while.
Laura,
The chapters, at least some of them, are short.

1.) Since I didn't read the synopsis for the book, I was a little shocked that Penryn was a girl. The first chapter or two didn't sound like the main character was female. Did anyone else have the same reaction?
2.) I love that this book doesn't have huge page long descriptions of things. Although, the descriptions do pack a punch. Such as, "...the type to be heavily scarred by battle wounds but instead, have the kind of perfectly unmarred skin prom queens around the country would kill their prom kings for." and "His athletic grace reminds me of a puma I once saw on TV."
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
4.) Raffe seems like an agel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bled to death?
7.) Page 50. Location 759 (Kindle version) Penryn offers Raffe food and he asks why she is giving it to him. She relplies, "Sometimes, as we're stumbling along in the dark, we hit something good." Do you think she is just talking about food or did her comment have a deeper meaning?
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?

1.) Since I didn't read the synopsis for the book, I was a little shocked that Penryn was a girl. The first chapter or two didn't sound like the main character was female. Did anyone else have the same reaction?
Nope. I don't know why but I knew she was a girl.
I do love some of the author's descriptions.
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
Sounds like the mom did it, but was that before or after the apocalypse? Sounded like before, but maybe not? It is a curious thing and I wondered about it myself.
4.) Raffe seems like an angel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
I'm not sure what all he was sent to do. Looks like there may be two types of angels. The one said he should have joined them. I wonder what he was referring to? Could we have angels run amock or a sentence handed down like at Sodom and Gomorrah?
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
I would guess God, but if my run amok theory is correct who knows.
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bled to death?
Penryn wanted a distraction and that was the only thing she could think of at the time. Her reasoning: If you give the guy a blade...
I think she's thinking food at the moment. She still doesn't trust him and has no plans for anything outside of that.
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?
I checked because I was pretty sure I knew the area that was being discussed (because of street names) and was happy to find I was right. I lived in Sunnyvale for a year and Mountain View was where we used to go to watch movies at the cheap seats. Mountain View is the location the story starts out at.

I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting a girl main character.
I really enjoyed these descriptions because they were unique compared to the overused descriptions I usually come in contact with.
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
4.) Raffe seems like an angel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
I don't know why they are supposed to kill the humans. Maybe the aerie is getting too crowded? Or like any thing else they are getting power hungry?
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bled to death?
I can't decide on this one. I probably would have saved him long enough to save myself and then moved on.
I think this line carries a deeper meaning. Not necessarily for the characters, but for the book as a whole.
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?
I like the pace a lot. The sentence and paragraph length seem to help the story go faster also. I love that Susan Ee doesn't use eloquent, overly academic language...it adds to the grittiness and feel of the book. The chapter length is also perfect. I despise loooong chapters! The setting is ok. I find alot of books set in Cali and I sometimes wish the could pick somewhere new. I love this subject matter. I've never been a religious person or believed in religion so I find it interesting that the subject of angels, something highly religious, can be brought down a couple of notches and made somewhat dark.

#3- It was before. They took Paige to the hospital, had hospital bills to pay, Penryn was enrolled in self-defense, and their dad was still around so I would say it would have to be before.
#4- Good theories. I like the idea of angels run amock. Lol.

I also started wondering about the angels taking children, according to Penryn. Why would they need human kids for??

1.) Since I didn't read the synopsis for the book, I was a little shocked that Penryn was a girl. The first chapter or two didn't sound like the main character was female. Did anyone else have the same reaction?
I think I knew she was a girl going in. At any rate, it didn't surprise me.
It's a pretty straightforward narrative, but definitely has some style.
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
Good question. Possibly the author just didn't think of it. Abused children do slip through the cracks, unfortunately. :-(
4.) Raffe seems like an agel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
He's a little too cocky teenage boy for me.
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
No clues yet. I'm not sure if they really are supposed to exterminate us or if we're just collateral damage to some other plan.
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bled to death?
His being ganged up on by other angels makes him aympathetic. Of course, Penryn has motives other than being a good samaritan for helping him, but I think she feels sympathetic towards him.
It's a reference to what he said to her and perhaps intended to be somewhat pointed. They're stumbling in the dark doing evil, she's stumbling doing good.
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?
The style and relationships are reminding me a little too much of The Hunger Games. Except that Raffe is more like Cassandra Clare's Jace. It doesn't exactly feel like its own book yet.

As I was reading it I always felt like Raffe was a lot older then Penryn. Did anyone else feel that way?

I didn't read the synopsis either, but I just assumed the main character was a girl, probably because most of the books I read have a female main character. :)
I love that too. I tend to like books with action more than books that are focused on the language.
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
Maybe they came up with a good story? I don't know. With five kids and four of those being boys, we are regular visitors to the emergency room and I keep thinking they are going to wonder what's going on at our house!!!
4.) Raffe seems like an agel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
I like him, too. I am anxious to learn more about him.
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
No ideas yet on this one.
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bled to death?
I don't know. If I thought he was bad like Penryn did, I probably would have been too scared.
I think she is just talking about food. I don't know if she trusts Raffe yet to count stumbling across him as good???
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?
I like the book so far! I am excited to read more. It's a good thing the other book I am reading is a good one (Grave Mercy -- so good so far!), or I would be tempted to read more tonight. :)

I wondered about that too. At first I thought maybe it was just in reference to Paige being taken but I think they did comment on others being taken to. Could they be saving them or doing something more sinister?

I thought so too. Did they say how old Penryn is? I can't remember.

Hmmm....I didn't get a Hunger Games vibe but now that you mention it.....

I really liked Grave Mercy. The character reminded me a little of Katsa from Graceling.

1.) Since I didn't read the synopsis for the book, I was a little shocked that Penryn was a girl. The first chapter or two didn't sound like the main character was female. Did anyone else have the same reaction?
She does come off more as a male character at times. I read the synopsis, so I knew but I can see why one would go with male.
I am on the fence about it. I feel like the descriptions could be a bit longer and more...well descriptive without being Tolkien-esque (which would irritate me lol)
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
I wondered this too, its just kind of been glossed over. At the very least mom would have been given the ultimatum of treatment or losing your kids. Maybe it took place in the middle of the mayhem when things like that weren't as important.
4.) Raffe seems like an angel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
He seems like a good guy. I find myself inherently trusting him simply because the other angels all wanted to kill him, so he must be alright.
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
I am not sure of the motive yet, but it's not surprising. Angels in the Bible were God's warriors. So if God wanted to annihilate the whole world that's who would be sent to do it.
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bleed to death?
Well, if it was my sister I'd save his life just to thank him for being rid of her lol. But I can understand why she wanted to save him in order to potentially save her sister.
I'm not sure. I think if she was talking about Raffe, its a bit too soon since she was just barely trying to torture him. Too soon for her to be talking about him with such affection.
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?
So far I like it. It's easy to get through and moves pretty rapidly. I am hoping for more backstory soon though.

Question Ch1-10
1.) Since I didn't read the synopsis for the book, I was a little shocked that Penryn was a girl. The first chapter or two didn't sound like the main character was female. Did anyone else have the same reaction?
In my mind I envisioned her as a girl right off. I'm guessing that's because I typically think of angels as men and there is usually always a little romance in books where the supernatural are involved
I love that also. I think it is a major part of what makes this book so readable. I can visualize characters and scenery much better with brief descriptions rather than page long ones. In real life I look at a persons facial expression, gestures, and overall style. I don't analyze every fine detail of their appearance when first looking at them.
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
Good question! Maybe we don't have all of the details of the story yet
4.) Raffe seems like an agel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
He is definitely that perfect likable bad guy. I am wondering why he is fighting with the obvious bad angels.
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
I must say that I am completely lost on this. I know a lot of stories about bad angels usually have something to do with Fallen angels
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bled to death?
I don't think I could ever leave someone on the street to bleed, especially if I watched them being attacked
I took it to have a deeper meaning. I guess maybe she is acknowledging that there maybe some good come of them finding each other
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?
I'm enjoying so far. I just hope it remains sort of gritty and not flip too far over into the romance side. I'm assuming there will be a romantic connection, but I hope it does not take over the story. I always enjoy a little romantic tension with a developing friendship over instant claiming of love.

1.) Since I didn't read the synopsis for the book, I was a little shocked that Penryn was a girl. The first chapter or two didn't sound like the main character was female. Did anyone else have the same reaction?
I assumed it was a girl because the angel was a man. I don't know why, but I just figured it would end in romance. They usually do.
I am loving the language of this book. What about their little argument in which one of them calls the other one a "leaking sack of mutated maggots". She has such a vivid way of writing, but she uses few words.
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
What bothers me the most about this is how could the dad leave them with the mom, knowing how dangerous she is. It sounds like he walked out on them. I agree, why wasn't she charged with something?
4.) Raffe seems like an angel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
I agree. I think that we are going to really love him towards the end.
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
I have no idea. It almost sounds like even Raffe doesn't know. I am gonna have to think on this one and come back to it later when we have a little more information.
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bled to death?
I would have saved him. I agree with Gin, I don't think I could ever leave someone on a street to die, even if that person had been a part of something that had done harm to me in the past.
I think it had a deeper meaning as well. Didn't he say something similar to him a little before that?
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?
At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but I am loving it so far. I think that it has a good pace and has just enough mystery to keep me wondering and wanting to find out what is happening.

I kind of expected Penryn to be a girl but she has some masculine qualities to her. Recently though if feels like to me that female roles in book are often described this way, instead of being a damsel in distress it seems women are now more often described as a hero or protector character.
I really like the descriptions it gives you enough to go on but leaves it open to your imagination
3.) So, Penryn's mom more than likely crippled her sister, Paige. Why wasn't their mom charged with child abuse especially since they were the only ones in the house at the time of the accident? That is a pretty serious offense and I can't imagine how she slipped by CPS on that one...
I took it that this happened before the apocalypse and I was wondering if maybe the whole family was trying to protect the mom by lying to the drs thinking they could take care of the moms problems their-selves, maybe they said they were all there when the accident happened.
4.) Raffe seems like an agel sent to do bad that is inherently good. I like him already.
I really like this character and how he gives Penryn a hard time
5.) Why do you think that the angels were sent to annihilate the human race? Any guesses on who the angels' "leader" is?
I am not so sure yet if they were sent to annihilate the human race. I was wondering if there where fights between the angels (good vs bad) and their problems just fell into this world
Not sure maybe Raffe was the leader of the angels and they were trying to overthrow him
6.) Would you have saved Raffe or left him on the street to bled to death?
I think it would depend how I felt in the situation if I had to worry about my sister and mom I probably would not have
7.) Page 50. Location 759 (Kindle version) Penryn offers Raffe food and he asks why she is giving it to him. She relplies, "Sometimes, as we're stumbling along in the dark, we hit something good." Do you think she is just talking about food or did her comment have a deeper meaning?
I took this as a deeper meaning almost a foreshadowing as to what is to come in the book
8.) First impressions. DO you like the pace this book has set? The setting? The subject matter? Etc?
I do like the pace I really hope they go more into the back story as to how the whole apcolypse comes around and the story of how Paige accident happened.

9) So we now know you need permission to use an angel's sword from the sword itself. Do you buy Raffe's suggestion that the sword read Penryn's intentions and granted permission or do you think something more is going on? If it can read intentions wouldn't it have rebuked that permission later?
10) Vital information--you can kill an angel with an angel sword. I wonder what other ways you can kill an angel?
11) Do you think that Raffe's wings can be reattached? Do you think he can grow new ones? I was a little bit sad when I saw him fawning over the feathers of his wings.
12) What do you think is killing people? Could it truly be other people or kids? I can't imagine human teeth being able to eat chunks of human flesh. *cringe* This seems to be getting a little gory.
13) Did you get what Raffe was trying to do when he started talking about himself being a warrior demigod?
14) What did you first think would happen when Raffe and Penryn were first captured? Did you think they'd be killed? Why didn't they give them the soup? I took that as a sign they'd be killed.
15) When Obi said, "The men are under strict orders to be gentlemanly toward you." Did anyone else wonder what exactly that meant? I personally thought something a little more sinister than it turned out. I figured woman + men = well, you get the picture.
16) Did you think they'd get away when they escaped?
17) What was your first impression of the camp?
18) Were you surprised no one seemed to be stopping the fight?

I believed what Raffe said. And I wonder if that has something to do with why he didn't wrest the sword away from her when she wouldn't give it back to him.
10) Vital information--you can kill an angel with an angel sword. I wonder what other ways you can kill an angel?
11) Do you think that Raffe's wings can be reattached? Do you think he can grow new ones? I was a little bit sad when I saw him fawning over the feathers of his wings.
That was a sad scene! I'm hoping they can be reattached, or that he'll grow new ones.
12) What do you think is killing people? Could it truly be other people or kids? I can't imagine human teeth being able to eat chunks of human flesh. *cringe* This seems to be getting a little gory.
Yes, very gross. Penryn is obviously worried that it might have been her mother, which gives a frightening view of how crazy she really is.
13) Did you get what Raffe was trying to do when he started talking about himself being a warrior demigod?
Again, just brought Jace flashbacks to me. ;-)
14) What did you first think would happen when Raffe and Penryn were first captured? Did you think they'd be killed? Why didn't they give them the soup? I took that as a sign they'd be killed.
I wasn't particularly worried about them being killed, since it wasn't even halfway through the book. ;-) I got the impression that the food came with a price? That Penryn was supposed to trade info for it?
15) When Obi said, "The men are under strict orders to be gentlemanly toward you." Did anyone else wonder what exactly that meant? I personally thought something a little more sinister than it turned out. I figured woman + men = well, you get the picture.
I think that's what he meant. She was worried about being raped and he was reassuring her.
16) Did you think they'd get free when they escaped?
I did, was a little shocked they were recaptured.
17) What was your first impression of the camp?
Seems pretty creepy and confusing. I don't know what's going on.
18) Were you surprised no one seemed to be stopping the fight?
I think the point of the scene was to emphasis the fact that the world is a very different place now and previous ideas about civility & humanity no longer apply.
Speaking of which, did anyone else find it odd that all this has happened, according to the blurb, in just 6 weeks? It doesn't seem plausible to me. But I guess it has to have been a relatively short period of time or no foo stores, etc. would still be around.

9) So we now know you need permission to use an angel's sword from the sword itself. Do you buy Raffe's suggestion that the sword read Penryn's intentions and granted permission or do you think something more is going on? If it can read intentions wouldn't it have rebuked that permission later?
I buy it, I see no reason why Raffe would lie. And I admit that I want it to be true...it would be really interesting lol.
10) Vital information--you can kill an angel with an angel sword. I wonder what other ways you can kill an angel?
That's a good question. I hope we find out, it would make the story even more intriguing.
11) Do you think that Raffe's wings can be reattached? Do you think he can grow new ones? I was a little bit sad when I saw him fawning over the feathers of his wings.
I hope he can get his wings back, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they were gone for good. Obviously he was being punished for something bad, what worse punishment could there be for an angel?
12) What do you think is killing people? Could it truly be other people or kids? I can't imagine human teeth being able to eat chunks of human flesh. *cringe* This seems to be getting a little gory.
That part was a bit icky. I think it may be the soldiers, I don't think I buy their theory that they are just hunting....they got a lot of people to feed. And they seem pretty insistent on keeping people there until they, well, drink the koolaid as it were....what happens if they don't?
13) Did you get what Raffe was trying to do when he started talking about himself being a warrior demigod?
I'm not entirely sure, it was a good scene though, I like Raffe more and more.
14) What did you first think would happen when Raffe and Penryn were first captured? Did you think they'd be killed? Why didn't they give them the soup? I took that as a sign they'd be killed.
I thought if any of them would be killed it'd be Raffe when they discovered he was an angel. I think Penryn would be more valuable to them.
15) When Obi said, "The men are under strict orders to be gentlemanly toward you." Did anyone else wonder what exactly that meant? I personally thought something a little more sinister than it turned out. I figured woman + men = well, you get the picture.
I got the definite sinister vibe. I got the distinct feeling that there are men on that base that have a lot of bad intentions when it comes to women.
16) Did you think they'd get away when they escaped?
I hoped they would at first. But once they doubled back for the pack and the wings I knew it was all over.
17) What was your first impression of the camp?
Seems a bit too cult like to me, gave me a shiver up my spine.
18) Were you surprised no one seemed to be stopping the fight?
At first I was, but then I did remember what Obi implied...that not many of the men there are all that concerned about treating women well. So then I was less surprised.

I didn't find it all that implausible. I mean, look at what happens when an area gets hit by a storm that traps everyone with no way to get supplies in or out for a few weeks. On average the grocery stores are out of food in less than a week...then people panic and that's when the looting and mayhem begins. So it could happen in 6 weeks I think.

I think the sword granted permission I think that the sword can tell that Penryn is protective over Raffe
10) Vital information--you can kill an angel with an angel sword. I wonder what other ways you can kill an angel?
11) Do you think that Raffe's wings can be reattached? Do you think he can grow new ones? I was a little bit sad when I saw him fawning over the feathers of his wings.
I really hope they grown back not to soon though or he might end up in stew :)
12) What do you think is killing people? Could it truly be other people or kids? I can't imagine human teeth being able to eat chunks of human flesh. *cringe* This seems to be getting a little gory.
I agree this is what I find hard to believe would happen in 6 weeks it seems like there would still be looting going on at this time not cannibalism, I kind of wonder if its something non human since they referred to the little teeth
13) Did you get what Raffe was trying to do when he started talking about himself being a warrior demigod?
I think he was just trying to make Penryn take her mind of her sister by giving her a hard time and being annoyingly arrogant
14) What did you first think would happen when Raffe and Penryn were first captured? Did you think they'd be killed? Why didn't they give them the soup? I took that as a sign they'd be killed.
I took it as a way of interrogation when I first read it I thought they could get people to talk that way in the past and they thought it would be the same with Penryn and Raffe
15) When Obi said, "The men are under strict orders to be gentlemanly toward you." Did anyone else wonder what exactly that meant? I personally thought something a little more sinister than it turned out. I figured woman + men = well, you get the picture.
I think he was just reassuring her and trying to recruit her a little saying it safer on the inside then out of camp since he can control the men
16) Did you think they'd get away when they escaped?
Yes I though they would I was really surprised when they found them and even more surprised that the camp was still friendly after an escape attempt
17) What was your first impression of the camp?
At first I thought it was the people from the area banded together to protect there homes and what supplies they had I didn't get it at first that they were a small part of a larger cult like faction
18) Were you surprised no one seemed to be stopping the fight?
Yes, I was especially since it was a grown man fighting a young woman. Kind of glad they didn't thought I was so glad he got taught a lesson.

I think either the sword read her intentions or maybe Raffe himself and he didn't want her to know. It seemed like he knew what she was thinking once without her saying anything.
10) Vital information--you can kill an angel with an angel sword. I wonder what other ways you can kill an angel?
I would have thought cutting off an angel wings would be more damaging than it seems to be for Raffe so I am guessing it's not easy to kill an angel.
11) Do you think that Raffe's wings can be reattached? Do you think he can grow new ones? I was a little bit sad when I saw him fawning over the feathers of his wings.
I do think he will get them reattached before the end of the book.
12) What do you think is killing people? Could it truly be other people or kids? I can't imagine human teeth being able to eat chunks of human flesh. *cringe* This seems to be getting a little gory.
I don't know, but that part was gross!!!!!
13) Did you get what Raffe was trying to do when he started talking about himself being a warrior demigod?
I think he was just trying to distract her from her sadness by annoying her.
14) What did you first think would happen when Raffe and Penryn were first captured? Did you think they'd be killed? Why didn't they give them the soup? I took that as a sign they'd be killed.
I thought they would be tortured for information and Raffe would be found out.
15) When Obi said, "The men are under strict orders to be gentlemanly toward you." Did anyone else wonder what exactly that meant? I personally thought something a little more sinister than it turned out. I figured woman + men = well, you get the picture.
I was thinking he might possibly become another love interest for Penryn because he was being nice to her.
16) Did you think they'd get away when they escaped?
Yes! I was surprised when they were caught so quickly.
17) What was your first impression of the camp?
That they were pretty well organized and not a lot of freedom.
18) Were you surprised no one seemed to be stopping the fight?
I was surprised Raffe or Obi didn't stop the fight. I wanted to keep reading but I made myself stop. :)

I just assumed by intentions he didn't necessarily mean at that moment, but also as a person. In most books when an inanimate object is given a personality, it usually is loyal once it allows itself to be used by a person
10) Vital information--you can kill an angel with an angel sword. I wonder what other ways you can kill an angel? I'm guessing an angel made weapon of any kind. I still wonder about the whole cutting off the wings kills an angel thing. I wonder why she thought that was fact, and if so why he didn't die
11) Do you think that Raffe's wings can be reattached? Do you think he can grow new ones? I was a little bit sad when I saw him fawning over the feathers of his wings.
I certainly hope so. I couldn't imagine having wings and losing them like that. I'm wondering if Raffe knows something that she doesn't about getting his wings back. I wouldn't think he would be carrying them around if he knew they would grow back
12) What do you think is killing people? Could it truly be other people or kids? I can't imagine human teeth being able to eat chunks of human flesh. *cringe* This seems to be getting a little gory.
I'm not sure. She did start to hint that it might be her mother, but that wouldn't make sense because they just got there and it had been going on for a while.
13) Did you get what Raffe was trying to do when he started talking about himself being a warrior demigod?
Not sure. I was wondering if he was trying to hint that he is not what he seems. It would explain why the angels were trying to kill him
14) What did you first think would happen when Raffe and Penryn were first captured? Did you think they'd be killed? Why didn't they give them the soup? I took that as a sign they'd be killed.
I assumed that they would figure out he was an angel. I never thought these people would try and recruit them. I think the soup was just to show they what they could have if they helped
15) When Obi said, "The men are under strict orders to be gentlemanly toward you." Did anyone else wonder what exactly that meant? I personally thought something a little more sinister than it turned out. I figured woman + men = well, you get the picture.
I assumed that as well. Where did the book mention he meant something else. I must have missed that
16) Did you think they'd get away when they escaped?
I did. I just assumed this was just a little tiny set back. I didn't realize this place was going to become a larger part of the plot
17) What was your first impression of the camp?
My first impressions of the camp were relatively accurate. I didn't think they were organized with other camps though
18) Were you surprised no one seemed to be stopping the fight?
Very surprised! I must say I continued reading into the next chapter, so I know why now. At the time I couldn't think of a good reason not to break up the fight. It made sense to me why Raffe wouldn't, but not the others.

I now see the connection. ;)
Willaful also said, "Speaking of which, did anyone else find it odd that all this has happened, according to the blurb, in just 6 weeks? It doesn't seem plausible to me. But I guess it has to have been a relatively short period of time or no foo stores, etc. would still be around."
I didn't catch that, but that makes sense since they still seem to be able to find food. Mountain View is relatively close to San Francisco. I think it's between Palo Alto and Sunnyvale. Here's a map:

Book Description
It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.
Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.
Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.
Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.
