Which Shadowhunter series do you like better? Why?

message 2: by Amie (new)

Amie | 18 comments Infernal Devices definitely!! Although i do love the Mortal Instruements aswell of course :)

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I love The Mortal Instruments better because the whole situation about Jace and Clary is more exciting than the love triangle.

I think I care more about what happens to Will in the Infernal Devices but I love the Mortal Instruments too because of Jace and Clary and Magnus and Alec

message 5: by Ela (new)

Ela I prefer Mortal Instruments.
Didn't love the first ID, the second one was better but I'm still not as obessed with it as I am with MI.
My favourite thing about ID is probably finding out about Magnus's past. I hope she develops some more links between the series...

Roch (roli1547) | 10 comments I think I like the Infernal Devices better and I also like Will more than Jace.

(However, it may be because I read Infernal Devices first and then Mortal Instruments.)

message 7: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Arnold | 10 comments I loved infernal devices and Will and Tessa. I only strongly like Mortal Instruments.

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura | 17 comments I like them both equally, Cassie Clare's writing is just too good so I LOVE LOVE LOVE both series. Though, if I were forced to choose, I'd choose The Infernal Devices because I feel that it has more secrets waiting to be uncovered and the characters have really good foundation and are really developed. But either way, Cassie's writing just makes me laugh, cry, and nearly toss the book across the room. I love her books to pieces. <3

message 9: by Nila (new)

Nila | 109 comments Oh jeez. Why is this even a question?? How is a person supposed to PICK JUST ONE SERIES!??! **SO HARD**

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Infernal Devices no doubt!!! Even though i onnly read one of the MOrtal Instruments books and loved that one, too. I like Will better than Jace and Simon, and I like Jem more than Simon but not as much as Jace :)

message 11: by Emma (new)

Emma Ponnila3398 wrote: "Oh jeez. Why is this even a question?? How is a person supposed to PICK JUST ONE SERIES!??! **SO HARD**"

i agree! i love both of them so much, they are tied as my favorite book series ever! i can't ever choose. unless tessa ends up with jem. then i will like the mortal instruments better.

message 12: by Farhia (new)

Farhia (farhia97) | 105 comments infernal devices because of Will Herondale, or maybe because I read them first...mortal instruments is really good too, a close second

message 13: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Field (jdfield) | 5 comments infernal devices it's so smart and clever...

message 14: by Brittany (new)

Brittany DeLys (brittdelys423) | 48 comments Infernal Devices over Mortal Instruments definitely. I did like TMI but TID is soooooo much better I think. *sigh* Will *sigh*

message 15: by Flora (new)

Flora (shipitlikefedex) Jace. Jem. Simon. Jem. :)
*hugs them all*

message 16: by Sammi (new)

Sammi (xsammi24x) I started reading the infernal devices before the mortal instruments and as much as i couldn't stop reading the mortal intruments one after the other i am loving will and jem!!! i got it for xmas 2 years ago and then the next one the following xmas i am so disappointed that the next book isnt realeased till march 2013 i wanted it for xmas this year :-(

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I'll always love TMI a bit more, just because it was first. I've also loved the actual plot a lot more with that one, even though I definitely do love ID as well! All characters are equally awesome though! Clare's writing is amazingly good. :D

message 18: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennybm) | 17 comments Definitely the Infernal Devices! I liked the Mortal instrument, but the Infernal Devices was the best, even though I read the Mortal Instruments first.

message 19: by A.K. (new)

A.K. (booksnojutsu) | 13 comments I prefer The Infernal Devices. I guess it's because I relate more to Tessa as opposed to Clary. Clary's more of an impulsive person whereas Tessa is more calculating. I also find it more interesting because I'm just dying to know what Tessa is. Plus, Jem and Will are amazing. Even though I read The Mortal Instruments first, after reading The Infernal Devices, I just loved and got attached to each character straight away and I find the plot much more appealing.

message 20: by Alice (new)

Alice (alice20) Cassandra Clare kind of ruined Mortal Instruments with the last two books, Fallen Angels and Lost Souls. I wish she had stuck with the trilogy. I love the Shadowhunter world and all, but there comes a time when it just becomes too much.

Infernal Devices had much better romance and characters than TMI.

message 21: by Ju (last edited Jan 11, 2013 07:31AM) (new)

Ju (wraithlair) Ali wrote: "Cassandra Clare kind of ruined Mortal Instruments with the last two books, Fallen Angels and Lost Souls. I wish she had stuck with the trilogy. I love the Shadowhunter world and all, but there come..."

I get what you mean. I was so content with the ending of City of Glass that it was like introducing a whole other series when Cassandra said she would write Fallen Angels. Plus, the plots in the lost 2 books seem like they were just improvised so as to continue the story of some romances. I definitely liked TID more because it has a more fascinating and eventful plot.

message 22: by Turquoise (new)

Turquoise (soccerbooks) | 190 comments I am all about The Mortal Instruments. Hands down

message 23: by Kirstyn (new)

Kirstyn | 18 comments I like both TMI and TID, but I like the characters in TID better.

message 24: by Luna (new)

Luna (korramoura) | 14 comments Personally I like both series but you have to chose one: Infernal Devices, yeah I noticed how some character were like the character from TMI but out of main Characters I like Tessa, Clary is whinny and love crazy, and she doesn't use her brain some times and sometimes I want to yell "Suck it up buttercup!" but she is a teenager I give her that and that she is caring unlike her father. Unlike Clary,Tessa is a narrator I can tolerate yet the Shadowhuter/Demon/Walock is a little silly in my opinion. Tessa is smart( not saying Clary isn't) and has attitude and is really mature for her age( well you have to when your poor.)

message 25: by Gergana (new)

Gergana I adore both, but if I was forced to choose I would say The infernal devices. I love that it's set in the past (I'm not sure? The 19th or the 18th century?) And I like Tessa better that Clary. Imean Tessa loves to read and she is smart ( not that Clary isn't!) and then there's Will. I mean in the first book of TMI the reader sees this love triangle between Clary, Jace and Simon. And we all know Jace is totally gonna win. But in the infernal devices Tessa loves both Jem and Will and lets say it they are both hot! (I'm team Will!)

message 26: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I loved the Infernal Devices! I really liked the Victorian England setting and the characters were more well rounded and complex. Also they were more relatable. Clare's writing in TID is an improvement from TMI!! Can't wait to finish the trilogy

message 27: by Kylee (new)

Kylee I really liked both but, mortal instruments was my favorite. I didn't agree with Tessa's pick (Will is and always will be a jerk in my book) and I didn't like that she was immortal. I also liked the humor and more modern aspect of the mortal instruments.

message 28: by Cinthia (new)

Cinthia (cinthiah) Infernal Devices. Tessa was a much better character than Clary. And Jace can't really compare to Will...

message 29: by Maria (new)

Maria I like The Infernal Devices more. Maybe because I read it before The Mortal Instruments, but I love that the action is happening in a Victorian London and I think that the characters, the places and the situations in the books are just beautiful - like the covers. Also, there is the love triangle (I don't know what I would do if I had to decide between Will and Jem). Anyway, that doesn't mean that I don't like The Mortal Instruments. I do, I really like both series, but if I have to choose.... it's definitely The Infernal Devices.

message 30: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I have to agree, TID covers are so beautiful!!!

message 31: by Annie (new)

Annie (anniesmusings) | 69 comments Not sure if I commented here before but just in case I didn't I'll comment now. I love both series so much. I honestly don't like to pick a favorite but if I had to I'd pick TMI cause I read and loved it first.

message 32: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1 comments infernal devices are much!! better i luvvv jem soooooo much!!! i wish there were more books in the series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

If i were to choose , definitely the infernal devices . Although i read TMI first , TID was so much better . I could relate to what the characters said or did , even though i didn't like it . TBH , we all knew will was rude because he thought he was cursed . Jace seriously needs a psychologist , i keep saying inside my mind : jace just shut up . Tessa was more calculating , Clary didn't think before she act , her motto might be : act now , think later . Simon was okay , but not complex at all , we knew he loved clary but he would never get the girl and jace would , no competition . Plus , TMI love triangle was pretty obvious once i read the first few chapters , hot guy never expected to love the girl that wasn't perfect , girl's best friend actually liked her too , and she gets stuck in the middle . TID love triangle was superb , tessa knew she loved will in the first book . Of course jem loved her too , but it was ' different ' than usual best friend love . Tessa loved him as much as will . And the ending was great , tessa was with will for the next 60 or 70 years and 130 years later , she was with jem . Happiest ending i read . But overall , i still love the mortal instruments .

message 34: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea B | 179 comments I know it's hard to believe, but I have not read these yet! I read City of Bones, and was not super excited to keep going. I have been told that City of Ashes is where it gets really good! So my question is, should I keep going?? Should I go back and read Clockwork Angel first! I would really appreciate the feedback!

message 35: by L. (new)

L. (leightaylor) The Infernal Devices because I think the plot was less predictable than The Mortal Instruments

message 36: by Aisya Raisya (new)

Aisya Raisya (aisyaraisya) | 63 comments TID for sure!
Sorry Jace you're hot, but Will much much hotter than you

message 37: by Bookiemonster (new)

Bookiemonster | 30 comments As a male, I would say TID. Because TMI was just so weird in terms of characters, very few moments of actual connection with them, and a romance overload.

TID, because it accurately portrays people. Tessa doesn't always concentrate on will, she talks to Sophie as her friend. Jem and Will are best friends, and it's really believable, and the boys are believable too.

Jem is sweet, and kind, and those types of males are out there too. Will is witty, but he's also caring and kind. And finally, Tessa. Tessa is such a girl, but a really good girl, one who fights for her rights, doesn't always listen to other, but is also intelligent and kind and sweet.

message 38: by Carolina (new)

Carolina Lopez | 18 comments The ID of course, but I definitely love the MI!!

message 39: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I like TMI but both are amazing. I never got bored in TMI but every once in a while I was bored in TID

message 40: by Shubhra (new)

Shubhra Agrawal | 3 comments TID over TMI. Also I think the last three TMI books were totally unnecessary. TID had better characters and it was much more intense! I also loved finding out more about Magnus and all the small links to TMI in TID. Tessa is one of my most fav female leads and a lot better than Clary imo. Will..well I better not go into that right now..:')

message 41: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (soph1100) | 104 comments I liked TID a lot better. Don't get me wrong I loved TMI I just felt that TID was easier to read.

message 42: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I'm only on City of Glass right now but at this point I definitely like TID much better. I'm not really crazy about most of the characters in TMI but I'm absolutely in love with the characters in TID. They really made me love the series as much as I do.

message 43: by Jayda (new)

Jayda (mailani4ewa) I prefer TID, I read that first and was so excited to read TMI so when I read City of Bones I was kind of let down. Don't get me wrong I love TMI and both endings to the 2 series were wonderful, but I feel like the TID plotline was more original and the characters were more relatable. Also when reading CoHF whenever anything from TID was mentioned it seemed to get more interesting to me, so I guess that was like a sign that I liked that series better.

message 44: by Maya (new)

Maya Chhabra TID by a long shot. I like historical fiction, and I loved the friendship between Will and Jem and how it wasn't ruined by the love triangle. I never read the last three books of TMI, just wasn't interested enough. Also I love some of the literary references in TID, for example to the poem In Memoriam.

message 45: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (soph1100) | 104 comments The infernal devices!!! Don't get me wrong I liked the mortal instruments but TMI felt like they were stretched out to fit 6 books. Another reason TID was better is the ending the ending was my favorite part!

message 46: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (soph1100) | 104 comments I just realized I commented twice!! Oops!

message 47: by Cat (new)

Cat | 1 comments I liked the Infernal Devices better. I read all of TMI books before I read TID books. I liked the way that TID was kind of a love story but it was not JUST about the love story. I loved the way in COHF that things from TID were mentioned but I didn't put it together until reading Clockwork Princess what actually happened.

message 48: by Gia (last edited Apr 26, 2015 10:53AM) (new)

Gia Infernal Devices!!
^loved it! I was obsessed with it.
Victorian era(something completely new and different), Will <3(oh,i love him. Witty, sarcastic but loving and caring. Plus the way he suffered bcs of his ‘curse'), Tessa(simply amazing, brave, bookreader, intelligent),Jem(sweet and caring..his suffering with his disease :/), Will and Jem's amazing friendship bond(i hv ever seen in a book<3), suspense etc etc...
Whereas I liked TMI,it was gud too but not as much as TID..Clare was stretching TMI too much.
Love all the characters!

message 49: by Katrina♡•• (new)

Katrina♡•• | 228 comments The Infernal Devices!!!! And Will is in it!!!!

message 50: by J (new)

J Boy, I don't know... I legitimately like TMI better. I feel weird saying that because everyone everywhere overwhelmingly prefers TID. I feel like I'm missing something. Yeah, the characters are more likable in TID, and the steampunk aspect is cool, but there's just something about TMI that I vastly prefer. TID bored me a little. TMI hit hard and kept hitting.
