It’s never fun when the book you wanted to win for the Group Reads doesn’t make it! Especially when it loses by a couple of points. After many readers complained about not getting to read books as a group that they wanted I decided we might need to have a “back-up” plan so that readers can get a better chance to read the titles they want. (I know I’ve had books that have won for GR that I had no interested in.)
As you all know I love organization, and I hate having more than one thread open for a series or book. So yes there are some ground rules.
So here’s what you’ll want to do for a buddy read. 1) Pick a book (or if you want a series) 2) Come here to this folder (Group buddy reads) and create a new discussion. 3) The new discussion thread you’ve created is not the place to discuss the book!! It's a place for readers to sign-up for the buddy read and pick a date if one isn't already chosen 4) For the discussion title you might want includes the name of the book and author. Something like: Buddy Read – Guilty Pleasures by Anita Blake 5) In that newly created thread here’s the format you’ll want to do :
Name of book: Guilty Pleasures (or series so Anita Blake books 1-20) Time frame: Readers interested comment on dates that work (or if you know what date you want it you’re the buddy read captain you can pick! If it’s a series state the time frame, like one book a month or week or something like that.) Discussion thread:Anita Blake - Laurell K Hamilton(Now here’s the most important part!! You’re using the threads that already exist in the Series Discussions sections. If they don’t exist for that particular series feel free to create a new one just follow the guidelines.) 6) By putting the buddy reads in the Series Discussions not only will we not have more threads open up to discuss the same books, but you might get more people participating. Feel free to post in the series thread when the buddy read is happening. Don’t forget to hide spoilers with the tag.
Buddy reads are pretty easy to setup, but sometimes it can seem over whelming, so if you don’t feel like you can set it up feel free to email a Moderator and we can set it up for you! Just feel out the information in 4) and send it to us when you email it.
